Le Chat NoirWeekends seem to be hard toWeekends seem to be hard to handle for the restaurant. High demand is a good thing overall. Unfortunately extra waiters tried but lacked training and experience, the noise level was rather high, and the space felt overly crammed. The effort of the management to be accommodating was admirable as usual. We love the place, will definitely come again, but will avoid weekends whenever possible.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFrance away from France. TheFrance away from France. The best ratatouille in a very long time, outstanding mushrooms, excellent duck . Crepes are beyond comparison. Love on the first sight. Friendly and not pushy service. Nobody called us "guys", or "folks" what a treat!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMa taste of France...just in few words, this restaurant is just a real taste of French food !
a good diner with 2 glass of wine, take a dessert an you'll be in Lyon, the most awesome city of food in France !
just try the tarte tatin ! ; )6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe just love this placeWe are DC foodies, and just love Le Chat Noir. It is the closest thing we've found in the city to a Paris bistro. The food is always wonderful, and on nice nights they open up the windows and let the breeze flow through the restaruant. The wait staff is always helpful and friendly. The tables futher inside are a little close together for my taste, but again, very much like what you would find in Paris. If you don't want to spend the major $$ at Marcel's (which is or favorite restaurant in DC), Le Chat Noir is a great place to get your French food fix and have a lovely relaxed evening.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Nice Ambiance AMAZING STAFFFirst I would like to say thank you for your patience me and my guest were allowed to stay well after they had closed, so that we had enough time to finish our dinner. We had spent so much time talking to one another that time flew by. Secondly the food was excellent perfectly cooked and served at a very high level. Third, the staff is so friendly that they make you feel at home in France. Once again thank you so much!!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh praiseThe noise level came from the trucks passing outside on busy Wisconsin Avenue. Since i wanted to take advantage of sitting in the front porch area with some outside air, occasionally we had to stop talking while a truck passed by. This has nothing to do with the restaurant which was thoroughly enjoyable and delicious. The food and service was great.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVeranda is exceptionally pleasantVeranda is exceptionally pleasant on a nice day. Great for lunch.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA+ service, delicious, mod. priceWe had a wonderful, warm meal here. Loved that there were plenty of specials and they all sounded great! Perfect service- not too present, genuine, attentive. Great food and not overpriced.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThis has become one of ourThis has become one of our favorite places in DC. The food, no matter what we have ordered, has always been good and carefully prepared to our specifications. Service is consistently good but not intrusive. Ambiance is reminiscent of some of the places we have enjoyed the most in New Orleans - a tough standard to meet. There is nothing pretentious about Chat Noir. It is simply provides a product and service that is done thoughtfully and very well. As with most things of quality, it is simply the basics executed correctly every time.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMDELICIOUS and excellent service!DELICIOUS and excellent service! Best salad I have EVER ordered in my life5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food-Hard seatsGreat food at Le Chat; however, the pew-like benches and hard wooden chairs add an unwelcome Calvinistic touch. Bring a cushion and you'll have a delightful time.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFrance in WashingtonA wonderful meal, good service, in a very French ambience. I had bouillabaisse which was one of the best I've ever had. The goat cheese salad was also superb. Desserts, dame Blanche and tart tartin were also exceptional. I will definitively return.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful 81st birthday dinnerWe had a wonderful time here. All the diners, including my wife and me, were relaxed, dress was casual, the food was simply superb. The waiters were attentive, but not invasive. They also made interesting recommendations, some of which we took and were glad we did. Dessert came with a single lit candle honoring my birthday. Another 80 would have brought the Fire Marshall! We considered the price reasonable for the outstanding food and ambience. We will go back many times.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA consistent restaurantI have gone to Le Chat Noir for the past few years on a regular basis. I am from out of town, but whenever I go to Washington, I always consider it as a dining choice. In my experience, the food is always well prepared and the service is attentive, but not disruptive. My dinner of the lentil salad and the octopus salad appetizer were excellent. The lentil salad has a Dijon mustard dressing that really makes a delicious non-meat entrée. The baby octopus is grilled to perfection, being tender and well flavored with a lemon/olive oil dressing.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Service and very good foodThe waiter was great, I am from out of town but definitely return when back this way5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Neighborhood French RestaurantFood very good. Service very good. Staff was always there when we has a question. Owner also circulated among tables and was very nice. Noise level quite loud, but not much different Thanatos restaurants .5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming Neighborhood GemI had an absolutely wonderful experience at Le Chat Noir. Not only did the owner/manager check in with our table regularly, but the waitress was full of suggestions when we inquired. the food was superb and exactly as ordered. Definitely try the escargot and intend on a bottle of wine from their outstanding list!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBread is excellent -- really,Bread is excellent -- really, this is important!
Spinach and date salad: wonderful!
Pork medallions with generous flan with spinach: so tasty!
Go with their wine advice: it works best.
Partner loved her beef tongue first course ... 'hopes they keep on menu.
Food so good I ate too much, felt full!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant surpriseThe first Thurday of every month they offer a free wine tasting. The service and food were wonderful. I plan to return:)5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe brie, bacon and onionThe brie, bacon and onion tart was outstanding (tart asterix I believe) and can't beat the half priced bottle of wine selection on Tuesday nights! We came in for a late dinner on Tuesday and the restaurant was very quiet, but we were still given professional, lovely service. Will definitely come back!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great ambiance.Great food, great ambiance. Didn't expect it to be as romantic as it was. Don't like the two-top near the door so much, kind of awkward and very cold when the door opens but otherwise I have no complaints, I really enjoyed my experience.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love Le Chat Noir! TheWe love Le Chat Noir! The upstairs bar/ dining are was fantastic. The old, black and white Charlie Chaplin movies were a real treat. Can't wait to make it back there again!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMthe escargot, frog legs, arcticthe escargot, frog legs, arctic char, trout and polento were fabulous.
I wished they had included a cheese plate as a dessert option (on the Bloomspot voucher)4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely Evening OutMy 'fit for foodies' ratings are very hard to come by - an establishment needs to go above and beyond, not just get an A-. Very good food, great service (Andrew was wonderful) and the owner took a moment to make sure everything was on par. The French onion soup was great - lovely thick broth, great bouillabaisse and pretty good boeuf bourguignon. The crepes for dessert were very light and flavorful and the chocolate mousse was sadly disappointing - very light and airy but missing the serious intensity so lauded by french mousse. Overall wonderful experience.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable scene -- comfortableEnjoyable scene -- comfortable spacing and lighting -- good mix of guests -- and, clearly, a customer focused wait staff. Most importantly -- each and every course from the salads and appetizers -- salute to the mussels -- to the entrees -- to the dessert crepes and coffees -- was delectable. Wine and beer selections were extensive, upper tier and appropriate in terms of quality and cost. The welcoming host was wonderful -- however, the servers were many -- making it somewhat difficult to engage. Overall, a truly pleasing evening.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGood if not great French cuisine,Good if not great French cuisine, with attentive service. A lovely room, intimate, although the tables are close together.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLe Chat Noir makes you feelLe Chat Noir makes you feel like you are in someone's living room, eating dinner, so it has an intimate feel to it. The food was great, the service was a little funny. When we arrived with our reservation, three people said they would seat us and then disappeared. Finally someone seated us. Then it took forever to get the check but over all the server was very attentive and I feel like there were people constantly taking and removing dishes. I would definitely go back.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing, andThe food was amazing, and left a lasting impression! The escargot was delightful as was my fish (I generally hate fennel anything, but the fennel sauce was aromatic and dreamy!) and my dessert-salted caramel ice cream with mead drenched dates-was UNBELIEVABLE! I would definitely come back4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe ambiance here is lovelyThe ambiance here is lovely and the food was absolutely delicious. We had the Médaillons de porc and the Trio du terroir and both were exceptional!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was really good,The food was really good, we enjoyed a lot!
But we all wish the light could be brighter.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPeter S. Stony Brook, NYIf you want an authentic, excellent, French meal, you have to go to Le Chat Noir.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMTwo Thumbs Up, woyld return! This was my first time at a French restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, as the food was so flavorful, well prepared, decent portion sizes. The wait staff was very attentive when we I went on a Tues nite. The prices were very decent at $20-$30 for all dishes. Definitely would recommend the pork medallion and would return to this restaurant!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treatOnce again a terrific meal at Le Chat Noir. Anything they make that involves a sauce or soup is just sublime. We also dined there during Restaurant Week (although we didn't realize that it was going to be Restaurant Week) and the meal was outstanding. Next year we'll plan on it. For the sight-challenged, carrying a small flashlight for restaurant menus is always a good idea, and it would have helped here. The mood is French bistro, a bit dim for reading, but lovely for dining.2/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench bistro in TenleytownThe service was excellent - very attentive staff, friendly and efficient. The onion soup was delicious but I was disappointed in the lobster ravioli. They were quite bland. My friend enjoyed the crepe with mushrooms and her peach dessert crepe.
I'll return in a few weeks, for a group work lunch, so look forward to another good meal.1/17/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming French bistroMy first time here in many years but I'll return soon. Thanks to a coupon for steak frites and salad for two, my beau and I dined here on Friday, December 14. There were at least 3 large groups, celebrating the holidays but the staff was polite, attentive and efficient. The French bread was delicious - hard and crusty. The unsalted butter served with the bread was very cold and hard but that's a small ding. The steak was very good and the frites were superb but there was no malt vinegar so I asked for mayo. We will return to try the savory and sweet crepes, their specialty and hard to find these days.12/14/2012 12:00:00 AM
