Le CharmGreat to return to Le Charm! After a hiatus of 16 years, I was so pleased to find Le Charm still a wonderful presence with fantastic service and great cuisine. The mostly French staff and owner are charming and their advice over wine and menu selection ever so helpful. My daughter and I had a fantastic evening. My only complaint is that we were too full after consuming every morsel of our prix fixe dinners!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDine About Town '13As on every other visit, food was beautiful, well-prepared and tasty.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentGreat restaurant for good solid French inspired country bistro cooking. Portions are on the larger side with an artistic flair. The cooking is inspired and the passion is there. Presentations is conventional artistic, but that is fine with me, sometimes the Ca Cuisine folks over do food design to the point of distraction. Environment is clean and warm. Table distance is good, I can't stand rubbing elbows with strangers overhearing conversations I don't want to hear, like in many of the newer "cutting edge" places. Prices are more than fair and even on the lower side. Our pre fixe with bottle of wine was abut $110 for two. Service is excellent: friendly warm and welcoming without being invasive.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodLe Charm was a great find. This was my first time eating at this restaurant and the experience was fantastic. The service and food were both excellant . The food came out hot and in a timely manner. I was there with four women fom the midwest that are not adventurous diners and were skeptical about eating in a French restaurant. They ordered the cow au vin and all loved it. I had the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. The one critisizim I have is that the lamb should be served with a different type of potato. The lamb was served with dauphine potatoes which resemble potatoe chips, I found that an odd combination. There was also band playing music in the corner of the restaurant that added to the ambience.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightfulThis was our third time here and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is charming, the wait staff attentive, and the prie fixe menu is delicious every time. I tried the evening special of duck alaorange, it was cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for! My husband had the flat iron steak, the sauce had an oniony flavor...YUM! Dessert was also wonderful. We tried the trio, apple tartar, creme brûlée, and ice cream filled pifiterole....all delicious!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe haven't been to Le CharmWe haven't been to Le Charm in over 10 years and it is as good as I remember it to be.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA French ExperienceA great place to come for a "French experience". The service was very attentive and the food was excellent. The salmon was tasty and the profitaroles for dessert were to die for! LOL The row of side tables are way too close together to make for private dining. I really appreciated being allowed to switch to a corner table both for privacy and because it facilitated my limited hearing.
Parking was easy on 5th street which is always a consideration, and only a 3 block walk away from Yerba Buena Gardens and the theater there, the Metreon, and the Moscone Center.
I would definitely recommend Le Charm for any occasion to enjoy good food and the best of service.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest birthday dinner ....ever!On this very special occasion, i celebrated a birthday dinner with my significant other and teenage son. We started the dinner w/ champagne, followed by an order of the mussels (yum). For dinner we had: French onion soup (delish) for the men and escargot for me. for entrees, I selected the coq au vin( cooked to perfection) and the men had skirt steak w/ pomme Frits. We shared the profiteroles, floating island, and the apple tart . We enjoyed our fabulous meal accompanied by a string quartet...they played so Beautifully, if i closed my eyes, I felt like I was transported to France. To top it off, they played the happy birthday song to me as my dessert came out. W-o-w, best birthday dinner ever! Thank you.
Needless to say, we will be back.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always enjoy dining here,We always enjoy dining here, the whole experience is always top notch from the wonderful owner to the service and the food. The atmosphere is casual, sophisticated and not rushed. There is an amazing balance between French and American service styles. Never rushed, servers are attentive but not hovering, food is perfectly timed. The Prix Fixe menu is well balanced with very nice options for each course and nicely priced. This time we started with the escargot and warm goat cheese with brussels sprouts - both were awesome. For the main course we had the Coq au Vin and the Steak Frites, both nicely done. Chocolate cake and Tarte Tatin finished us up. They have a very nice wine list which always helps, we chose the Gigondas - perfect!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMet old friends whom we haven'tMet old friends whom we haven't seen in three years at Le Charm for dinner. Service was excellent, all dishes were great, we weren't rushed despite it being Saturday evening. They still serve some old-time French dishes which seem to have disappeared from most menus, and do an excellent job of it.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived early and got goodWe arrived early and got good service at the beginning, but it was harder to get anyone's attention once the restaurant got busy. Good authentic French food. Neighborhood not the most appealing.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSan Francisco gemExcellent food and very attentive service. One of the great dining experiences in San Francisco. Tables were a little "cozy" (close to one another) but the atmosphere and service were overall excellent.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI have always had a pleasantI have always had a pleasant dining experience at Le Charm. It is an unpretentious establishment serving typical French Bistro style plates and very reasonably priced. The quality has been consistently good and they make the best Ile Flotant in the Bay Area! I have taken friends from around the world to Le Charm over the past 10 years and have yet to be disappointed.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always enjoy dining atWe always enjoy dining at Le Charm. Thursdays are always nice because they have live music and it is not crazy busy. The Prix Fixe menu is a great deal and has a nice selection for each course. Two of us ordered off the Prix Fixe menu and one of us ordered off the ala carte menu and everyone was very pleased with their selections. The service is always excellent, prompt but not intrusive, and very cordial. We love this place and hope you will try it if you have not done so. They have a very nice wine list with most wines being very affordable.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect "prix fixes" menus,Perfect "prix fixes" menus, rather large portions.... excellent presentation and taste.
The service is attentive and "just like in France".
Highly recommend.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMLe Charm is Michelin ratedLe Charm is Michelin rated and I'm so glad I found this place in our neighborhood!!!
All the staff is very friendly and accommodating. We were running late and called to let them know and they were able to accommodate us, even though they were very busy. From my experience - very few places can do that.
Our server Alexa (sp?) looked very young (not that it matters) BUT was very knowledgable, helpful and very sweet. I would like to complement her!
Loved my chicken liver salad! Very tender steak tips.
I will be a returning customer for sure!!!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAs a French (actually French,As a French (actually French, not someone with second cousins having lived in France 70 years ago) I warmly recommend Le Charm. Feels like home. Get the Gigondas or Crozes Hermitage with the escargots and osso bucco... and finish off with the Tarte Tatin...3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic Parisian HideawayGreat ambiance in an authentic Parisian bistro setting w/ lovely decor and wonderful, live music. The onion soup was a dream come true as were the coq au vin, tarte tatin and creme brûlée. The owner couldn't have been nicer and surprised my partner with a candle on his dessert to help celebrate his birthday. To cap off the evening she also brought us each a complimentary glass of dessert wine. I'm seriously considering having my 60th birthday celebration in the back garden. Even if I don't we look forward to returning there to dine in the future.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE Le Charm!!! Can't beatLOVE Le Charm!!! Can't beat the price, the food is excellent, the ambiance wonderful especially on Thursdays with live music and all the servers are FRENCH which makes you feel you are in France on holiday!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a lovely re-discoveryThis was a lovely re-discovery in SOMA. The owner was very friendly, the ambiance was stellar and the food was authentically French through and through. Success!2/22/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic outdoerWe went for dinner. The place was packed for a 7:30 seating.
We were seated in the garden, dining on yummy entrees, listening to live music. What more can I say? Well, perhaps one thing, the service was not very attentive. It was hard to get some attention for a glass of water.1/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
