I don't know if the wine list was notable, but it was very satisfactory and reasonably priced. Ambiance was cozy and quiet, which suits the needs of seniors. We would return!"

  • "The food is fresh and good and reasonably priced. We had a reservation. The restaurant wasn't full but they only had one waiter, so he was super busy. That would have been fine, but I felt like we were a little bit of an inconvenience for him. We didn't mind waiting to order our dinner but at least wanted to get started with a glass of wine. With the many other great restaurants in Portland, I probably won't visit here again. It's nice to feel wanted as a customer."

The smoked salmon appetizer was delicious and the muscles as my main course were as good as in Honfleur, France. Great service and reasonable prices makes for a wonderful experience at this neighborhood gem!"

  • "The entire diniing experience was wonderful. My wife and I enjoy dining. By this I mean we are in no rush to complete a meal. All items were brought out in a timely fashion. The menu was very broad and everything we had was outstanding. For a first time we wanted to try as much as possible. This included 3 apps, 1 salad, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. We are both looking forward to going back."

  • "As you can get in Portland. The food and ambiance takes you back to sitting in a small cafe in Paris. The staff is busy but attentive. We have gone a couple time prior to a show and they will make sure that you are out the door in plenty of time, but never rushed. The pate is fabulous. We even took some home."

  • "This my guest and I's first time dining at Le Bouchon. We started with the Pate which was delicious. The Gelee that was on it was packed with flavor as was the Pate itself. We then ordered the Clam special and the Cassoulet. Both were done perfectly. The clams were packed with flavor in the broth only complaint is that they were possibly not cleaned well enough. They had little bits of sand throughout them but still tasted amazing. The cassoulet was to die for. Traditional execution with this dish. The sausage was tender, the duck confit practically melted in your mouth and the beans were soft but not mushy. Everything was delicious."

  • "This restaurant was a major disappointment. When the reservation was made there was no indication that there was a fixed menu. However, I suspect that they would have failed any way if we had their regular menu. Many diners did not get served until after asking about their food. There was a major disagreement between two of the servers which ultimately ended up with one of them leaving. The owner I assume is a charming lady but she is over-whelmed. I kept thinking Gordon Ramsay was going to come out as this place needs a major change. However, I suspect it is to late as this place just had the feel of a restaurant going downhill fast. I give this place 6, maybe, 9 months before the doors close."

  • "Have always had a good dining experience prior. Good service and food. However for Valentine's Day it was clear that the restaurant was not prepared for the large number of diners. Service was very inconsistent, never was asked if we would like another glass of wine, no water refills, never checked on whether we were enjoying our meal, long wait time between courses (compared to previous visits), and waited a long time for our dishes to be cleared and get a check. One waiter apparently quit in the middle of service and prior to his departure was arguing with the manager. Not great to watch and had an impact on the service and overall experience."

  • "My wife and I have travelled a lot in Europe, many times in France. Le Bouchon is a classic french bistro-style restaurant , small, often tight for space, noisy in a good way, and with great food and service. The husband is the excellent chef and his wife is often found overseeing guests with warmth and a twinkle in her eye. Some of the wait staff are also from France. Our favorite for special occasions or just when we feel like a treat. People who have complained about the sometimes noisy atmosphere just don't have a comprehension of what is like to eat in a French bistro, they should travel more and expand their horizons."

  • "Great 5 course menu! Very appreciative of owner to take 5 people instead of 4. We did call the night before to ask if it would be ok and they were very nice to help us. Did have to ask for salt and pepper to many times...and we do understand, that the chef prepares the meal the way he likes it but we only wanted to have it to add if necessary to our tastes. It was a bit strange to have to ask several times. I don't think France has banned salt yet and likely won't if the public reads the current science on sodium. Great decorations for the New Year. A neighborhood classic. Thank you for a great evening!"

  • "This restaurant need some update changes. The table cloth on table live a faded impression, a simple paper covering on each table would convey a more cheerful modern feeling at very little cost. The meat was properly prepared, the serving of potatoes au gratin was minuscule. The salad was to cold, with not enough dressing which was also flat. overall a sad experience, and expensive at that, the final bill of 107 dollars is way out of line for a disapppointing diner."

We had the chicken dish and the fish special. Both dishes were extremely well prepared. Don't forget to order a soufflé 24 hours prior to your reservation. It's one of the best we've had."

  • "We only had one night in Portland and were craving French food, and were delighted we found Le Bouchon. The food was amazing, the wine list a pleasant surprise, and the service phenomenal. At the suggestion of other reviewers, we left room for chocolate mousse and were not disappointed. Special kudos for the service--our server noticed that we were checking maps at the end of our meal, and she kindly grabbed her cell phone and looked up the bus schedule and gave directions to the bus stop from the restaurant. I felt like we came as strangers and left as friends."
