A word from Le Bistro
Le Bistro opened in December of 2011 by Franck (executive chef) and Laura Lamonica (dining room coordinator). The family also owned and operated Cafe Provencal in upland for 12 years until they decided to retire. Le Bistro offers a similar type of menu with salads, pasta, crepes, pizzas, and a wide array of specials that change weekly such as rack of lamb, flat iron steaks, filets mignon, and fresh fish brought in fresh several times a week. Also on the menu is french onion soup, escargots, duck mousse pate, lobster bisque, and fried calamari strips and dip. The grand marnier soufflee for the dessert is the house specialty. All of our dishes are prepared a la minute and are all homemade, from start to your table. We invite you to come dine with us and savor a little taste of the south of France. From all of us at Le Bistro bon appetit.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I went to the Le Bistro to celebrate two girlfriends' birthdays. We had a wonderful time, the food and service were excellent, the desserts were even better. Everything is made to perfection by Chef Franck. One of my girlfriends can't wait to come back for dinner with her husband. The other friend has been to the restaurant many times and truly enjoys all the French cuisine. We'll all be back!"

  • "Franck and Laura (the owners) have now returned from their trip to France and brought back some new additions to their menus. Two new desserts: a blueberry tarte and especially a Souffle Glace which in frozen form mimics their very popular Grande Marnier Souffle. The Souffle Glace especially is a GREAT dish, but be aware: it really needs to be shared between two (or maybe even more) people. IT IS WONDERFUL. As always, Le Bistro is a superb dining experience."

  • "A classic bistro with a not-large menu and preparations that say "Paris." The first indication was the excellent bread. We liked the mains w tried: coquille St. Jacques and the flat iron steak. The steak was perfectly cooked (WOW on the sauce) and served with excellent frites and a very fresh side salad. I'm trying sand dabs next time. Desserts (a peche melba and a souffle glasse) were a calorie splurge well worth it -- house-made, rich, flavorful, not too sweet. Not many wine choices but we were happy with the French red we ordered. Service was relaxed, attentive and friendly. The room is lovely, with an open kitchen in the back. Ladies room was clean but utilitarian -- tres Parisienne! Dinner, wine, dessert for 3 came to $115."

  • "The menu brought me back about 30 years - old school American French restaurant fare. it was somewhat expensive for the quality but the meal was pleasant and the restaurant is quiet. We were seated close to the open kitchen. They have a pizza oven so it got kind of hot where we were sitting. So you might want to sit further away from the source of the heat."

  • "Consistently the best food (of a variety of kinds) that can be envisioned. This restaurant is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to be one of your regular haunts. My wife and I, and frequently friends, are regular diners at Le Bistro. Because of that we try just about everything on the menu. Tonight was no exception because we put together some unusual combinations, like multiple appetizers instead of a main course. I highly recommend your being creative in selecting among a la carte offerings to suit your exact mood and desire."

  • "This place is tucked away in a Vons shopping center in Upland. Inland Empire aesthetic aside, the place itself inside is quaint, quiet, and good for couples or small groups. We were there for dinner, so they have a different daily menu of specials as well as their standard fare. The lunch menu looked great, too. I had the Prix Fixe, which was $25 for soup or salad, main dish, and dessert. Quite reasonable for the quality of food served. The staff were friendly and attentive. All in all, a surprising find out in the IE!"

  • "It is so nice to go to Le Bistro, the service is great, the food wonderful and the atmosphere is relaxing, nothing urgent or upsetting. The soups are quite possibly the best we have had, and the food is always beautiful as well as great tasting. We love to go with family or on date night. We will be back there soon!"

  • "If you haven't been to Le Bistro yet, you need to go there. The food is wonderful. It is always freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The chef/owner Franck is always there and stops by your table to be sure that you were pleased with your meal. His lovely and charming wife Laura is the server. I have always enjoyed the food, the service has always been prompt and friendly and it is good to know that I am helping to keep the neighborhood gem in business. I highly recommend that you try Le Bistro if you haven't already. And, by the way, they have a good website. Check it out."

  • "We tried 10 different items, all perfect & all outstanding & delicious except the pizza (only buy pizza at Italian restaurants). We 100% recommend this restaurant to everyone of all ages, just stay away from the pizza (cardboard)."

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our 34th anniversary and wanted to try something new. Since we both like French cuisine and had heard about Le Bistro we decided to give it a try. The food was excellent as was the service. We both recommend the desert souffle. We would return to Le Bistro just for that and a cup of coffee. Small place, quiet. Although not busy the night we were there, I understand reservations are a good idea on Friday and Saturday."

  • "This is a open kitchen restaurant. The front of this restaurant is dinning room, the back is kitchen, there is no wall or blockade in between, I can see every move by the cook., it is interesting experience for me. The lady is a very friendly person with great smile and has real great service. I have lamb chop is tender and tasty. The price is reasonable, I will recommend this restaurant to my friends."

  • "What you would expect dining at one of the finest French restaurants, only at Le Bistro you won't need a Brinks truck of money, nor will you leave still hungry. The portions are perfect, the preparations are gourmet all the way. The Steak Diane, though not table side is excellent and the St. Jacque is among the best made, with the lightest of sauces. It is quiet dining without pressured service and is truly a neighborhood gem. I would recommend reservations. The corkage fee is $15. Highly recommended and open for both lunch and dinner."

  • "Another visit to Le Bistro --- as always, excellent food and excellent service. Le Bistro is one of those places where the diner can always depend on an excellent meal, excellent service (even when they are VERY busy) and a warm welcome for either regulars or for the first timer. Highly recommended"

  • "My 18 year-old daughter and I had a special celebration dinner at Le Bistro. I had the "canard a l'orange" and she had the linguini bordellaise. We loved both! We are picky because we lived in Paris, France, for 5 years, and we still miss the good food. My daughter talks about good French food all the time -- and we have found it at Le Bistro!"

  • "We have known the Lamonica family and their restaurants since the early 1980s when it had the Ardoise then the Cafe Provencal. The food and ambiance are just as good and friendly but more French than Basque."

  • "I have had the quiche lorraine twice and it is the best I have ever eaten. I orded the quiche along with the salad ...they made for the perfect lunch. My guest had the trout. and she declared it superb. The service is prompt, polite, and non-intrusive, a rarity these days"

  • "This is a recent addition to the Le Bistro menu and is a gem if you are a duck lover. Serving size is pretty large consisting of two legs and thighs per plate. Before cooking it is a bit over a pound. Because the duck is a "confit" there are some extra flavors beyond the whole roasted duck normally used in this dish. And Chef Franck's take on the l'orange sauce is excellent to say the least, the perfect balance (for my palate) of citrus and savory!"

  • "We invited two friends to join us at a place we had tried twice and enjoyed both times. They said they'd been there some time ago and thought it was good but not great. They changed their minds on this trip. In fact they were very impressed, especially praising the Veal Normandie as exceptional. Our friend chose the wine, a red Bordeaux, which was very good and complemented our meals. The vegetables were excellent string beans amandine. And now they have expresso and cappuccino, which they didn't before. All four of us thought the food was excellent and our friends now are enthusiastic about returning. As of course are we. (And the charming owners will speak French with you if you try.)"

Great wine, small selection but good wines. The soufflé for desert was great, rich and not too sweet. Looking forward to our next visit."

  • "While the location is not what you would expect for a fine restaurant the food and service make up for it. We were at Le Bistro for a Saturday dinner after seeing a review in Westways, and their good review was correct. The food from the onion soup to the Grand Marnier souffle were to die for. The soup was rich and cheesy our entre's of a broiled skirt steak were beautifuly done and the desert, the Grand Marnier souffle which we shared made us wish that we had ordered two so that we didn't have to share. The service is friendly and outstanding. Looking forward to our next visit."

  • "What a wonderful find in Upland. We had just about given up on finding a good French restaurant in the Inland Empire, but there it was! Very Bistro, not too pretentious, small but great wine list and the food is excellent. Warm, friendly atmosphere with lively interesting patrons. We are looking forward to returning soon."

  • "This little place sits in a shopping center near a Von's market, between an ice cream place and a Subway sandwich shop. But the owners are the younger generation of the family that used to run the Café Provençal (also in Upland, California), and the heritage lives on. The Bistro's menu is similar to that of the old Provençal, and the food is authentically French. We went for dinner. One of us had the steak Diane and the other the veal Normandie. Both were excellent, and the little potatoes went well with the sauce. A small wine list, but the Bordeaux, which we ordered, was excellent and went well with both dishes. Their featured dessert, a soufflé that you need to order 20 minutes ahead of time, was worth the wait. We'll be back!"

  • "Took my best friend their for her bday, the food was amazing, the souflee for dessert was mouthwatering..... Laura was a charm we called and advised we were running late due to traffic and very understandable that our table will be waiting for us. The wine was fabulous. This little french bistro in UPLAND, CA. rocks. Nice to have a authentic restaurant in the area. Very very nice, no large crowd, no snooty people, very down to earth....will be back soon."

  • "French cooking? Yes, there is a choice in the western Inland Empire and one you should try. My wife and I (and sometimes additional friends) are regular diners at Le Bistro and have been since its opening almost 2 years ago. In probably three dozen visits, there has never been an experience that was less than satisfying. The menu continues to evolve in response to customer desires, and now includes a "Prix Fixe" offering that is a great deal at $25.00. "Chef's Specials" vary with the season and the availability of specific products, but our experience is that Franck Lamonica and his kitchen staff produce the kind of meals that are the best of "home style" French food, some classics (like Coq au Vin) and some creative."

  • "The food was good - I think for the price we could have easily found something better. The Vichyssoise was too salty and the crab cakes were on the mushy side. The restaurant has very little ambience. The one highlight of the evening was the souffle - it was perfectly cooked and tasted great. So, if you just want a wonderful desert (and there were other deserts on the menu that sounded great), then this is the place to go."
