Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I have dined at Le Bernardin several times for lunches and dinners, and have always been impressed with the consistent quality of the food, service and ambiance. I'm not sure if it's possible to improve upon what is practically a perfect experience, though this time the food seemed even more sublime than usual, and the wine pairings married so harmoniously with the food. We went all out with the Chef's Tasting Menu and it was worth every cent. We were celebrating a special occasion with a dear nephew who was visiting the city for a conference and they brought a special dessert and made him feel as special as he is, so we couldn't be happier to have chosen Le Bernardin. We're already talking about when we might return."

  • "First of all, this restaurant is expensive. Once you get by that, the food and service are outstanding. The scallops, lobster, and snapper were incredible. The presentations were impeccable. If you are looking for a big night on the town. This is the place to go."

  • "Before choosing our food, my friend and I browsed the wine menu and each section, red's whites etc. only had about two choices in the $150-$275 range per bottle. The majority then went from $700-2,500 per bottle. That's great, though with two bottles adding $2,K to the bill is a little over the top. We decided that two types of wine would not do a seven course justice, so we chose the paired wines for each course and it was the right choice for sure. The seven course chefs tasting menu was excellent. The service attentive, helpful and friendly, the ambiance classy and tasteful. I would highly recommend and definately go again."

  • "Third time me and my wife visit Le Bernardin. But the first time for lunch. Lunch was great just like our last two visits. Will definitly go back next time in New York!"

  • "Perhaps the most enjoyable, well presented meal I have had in the last three years. Presentation, quality, wine list and service were all notable."

  • "The food was exceptional and the service was probably the best I have ever experienced. My needs were anticipated instead of having to ask. I would go back and not regret it."

  • "Very expensive night destroyed because the staff was unwilling to contol a boisterous table, food was very good, service good , but be prepared for uncontrolled rowdy customers"

  • "My date and I had both tasting menus, each with the wine pairing. The food and service were mostly excellent, but unfortunately the wine fell short. The pairings were good, but didn't elevate the way we experienced or tasted the food. I expected much more from Aldo Sohm. All of the pairings seemed very safe, as if Sohm didn't want to try anything too unorthodox or bold. Moreover, the only flaw we experienced in the service was with our sommelier, who informed us that the chardonnay paired with the langoustine did not see oak, but it was clear from the nose alone that it was indeed oaked. After checking back with her, she corrected herself and informed us that it was in fact aged in oak. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Le Bernadin."

  • "I had wanted to get to this restaurant for some time and was glad I was able to get there finnally. The food was spectacular and the service was superb as well. The sommelier was helpful with wine choices as well as the list was very extensive. I would return anytime!!"

  • "Felt rushed the second we sat down. Our waiter seemed annoyed that we asked for suggestions. They forgot it was my birthday. Overall, a huge disappointment. Would recommend Jean-George and Del Posto prix fix lunch over this anyday. Now those places make you feel special."

  • "This restaurant is my favourite! The service is flawless! From getting you a chal if your are cold to talking care of any special needs in your food!"

  • "We visited Le Bernardin to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food and service were fantastic, living up to the hype and expectations of a three michelin star restaurant."

  • "From the moment you walk in, you notice that this establishment is the high watermark of restaurant achievement. The decor is modern, the service is impeccable but not intrusive and the food is outstanding. Several of the courses from Le Bernadin tasting menu, in particular the tuna / foie gras, was something I will remember forever."

  • "Le Bernardin is one of te top 3 restaurants in NYC. If you are willing to spend the $$$ you won't be disappointed."

  • "I have been in quite a few Michelin starred restaurants (including several 3-starred ones) and I was not overly impressed, although, all together, we did enjoy the meal, service and ambiance. The tasting menu had some excellent items (such as the Tairagai and White Tuna- Kobe beef) TAIRAGAI, although some were merely good and relatively (as Michelin stars go) conventional. The wine list was reasonable but not good value for money. There were also some details which we did not particularly appreciate, such having been presented with a charge for an item (salmon salad), which we did not request. Not so much for the price, but rather for the fait accompli. All in all, slightly disappointing and overpriced for what it provides."

  • "Probably my best meal ever. This is as near perfection as one can hope finding. The exquisite food was topped by an exceptionally attentive service making sure to accommodate our special requests. My only wish : repeat the treat asap."

  • "Wonderful food based on good ingredients, although one could almost expect even more at this level. Rather good value for money given the quality and accolades of the restaurant. Close, attentetive and polite service, although sonewhat aloof and impersonal. We went for a tasting menu with the wine pairing. The sommelier presented each wine with producer, grape, region and year, but rarely managed to explain why this was a good match for the next course or elaborate beyond the obvious."

  • "Although I've eaten in many fine restaurants this was my first Michelin Star experience. The room is beautifully appointed from the textured walls of wood and steel to the huge bouquet of white lilies and orchids everything is placed there especially to please. The service, impeccable; pleasant, always attentive, never intrusive. The food divine; texture, color, layers and layers of flavor, portion size, level of extravagance, absolute perfection. The description says jacket for men...I would add dark jacket rather than sports jacket (ties are optional and I saw both), and definitely dress or skirt for the ladies. All this is wonderful and exciting but without the TASTE none of the other would have any significance. It's perfect."

  • "The place is really top five in Manhattan ! The staff, the menu and the wine list were excellent. If you became lost amongst so many options don't worry, simply ask for help. You will get comprehensive explanation of everything. I will be back, surely."

  • "We chose Le Bernardin to celebrate a friend's big birthday and were not disappointed. Ambience, service, food - all impeccable. The $65 prix fixe 3-course lunch menu was well worth it. After all these years, no one does fish like Le Bernardin! And, despite the encyclopedic and (mostly) expensive wine list, we were able to find an affordable, and very good, bottle to complement the meal. Nice touch: in addition to the desserts we had ordered, an extra dessert, with a candle and "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate sauce on the plate, was brought out for the birthday girl."

  • "From the beginning to the end, everything was perfect. The ambience, relaxed and calm, the service, polite and very attentive, and the food, incredible!! We were celebrating a special occasion and it was just the right place and dinner. Of course is an expensive restaurant not for every weekend, but it is worth every dollar. We love seafood and each course was delicious and tasty."

  • "Excellent food, fluent and professional service - I will recommed this for sure!"

  • "We took one of the tasting menus. It started ok. The first few dishes were well presented, the taste were on the light side, with a clear Asian accent. The last 2 savory dishes (crab and See bass) were clearly over powered and the taste not so pleasing. This restaurant is not cozy. The service is tuned and precise like a German factory. As a result, you feel like in a bee hive or in a food court and all that service is not really personnal. The foot traffic around you is overwhelming. They did a good job at controlling the sound, but there is just too much activity around. Our previous experience in NYC with an Opentable top 10 was great, but I would not qualify this one at the same caliber."

  • "I hate fine dine restaurants who employs staff who condescends their customers. Their service was LOUSY and i think success must have gone to eric ripert's head. Sorry eric... food was forgettable except for the scallop which was oh-so good, i thought i may just sit there and savour that for a whole half an hour. The wine recommended was excellent, and their sommelier is really top notch. However, all these positive things are easily thrown in the trash if the diner does not have a great time. In the end, one is left to wonder why go back to a place that did not make us feel wanted and welcome. Sorry but PER SE and ELEVEN madison did a MUCH MUCH better job!!!!!"

  • "Had the privilege of taking my daughter to Le Bernadin for lunch. Exquisite. Rare for a world-class restaurant to overwhelm you with subtlety. The food, service, and atmosphere were all world-class without ever overdoing anything--a sign of true mastery. A meal and experience to remember. Bravo."

  • "We have been fortunate to dine at many 'star & 'hat' restaurants overseas and would rate Le Bernardin as the best; a big call! We enjoyed an incredibly delicious and balanced degustation dinner including wines and then met Eric Ripert and were given a tour of the kitchens. We will definitely recommend to our friends - We booked 4 weeks in advance from Sydney online which was essential -"

  • "Dining at Le Bernardin was an incredible experience. As a food lover, I can only say it was a real pleasure to enjoy a menú which tasted soooo well, showing such a respect for the ingredients."

  • "Le Bernadin never disappoints. But the salmon and black bass on the tasting menu was absolutely sublime. Definitely the best seafood in the city- maybe even the country."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "In a week where we visited a number of New York's top restaurants, Le Bernadin was quite a disappointment. Our first course was top-notch, but our mains were both disappointing. My dover sole was rubbery and needed a knife to cut through, which was shocking for a 3-michelin star restaurant that built its reputation upon the finest fresh seafood. Atmosphere was refined, service was excellent, but the food simply didn't stand up to the competition. In speaking with locals and staff at other restaurants, there was no surprise at all about that -- sort of a "oh, I'm sorry no one told you to avoid it, that's too bad." Perhaps it was a bad day, but the impression I got speaking with people in the know is that it trades on its past reputation."
