Diner Reviews
  • "This place looks like a high-end steak place with a bit of a cafe feel and a nice bar - and that's exactly what it is. Cocktails were tasty, the appetizer (we had the mussels) was delicious, and the steak was top-notch!"

  • "My friend and I arrived promptly at 200 on a Thursday afternoon- hardly a busy night. When we arrived, we would have been the 4th table to be occupied. Yet, it took about 10 minutes for someone to ask us if we wanted to drink some water. Then we had to flag someone to ask if we could be served drinks. The restaurant was otherwise dead. I ordered a Cesar salad (large, very good); and the filet mignon (ordered medium rare- but arrive medium well; no blood); my friend had the lamb dish, and he barely touched it- not the best endorsement. The chocolate mousse was delicious. Overall, I am somewhat disappointed. We needed a good restaurant in Menlo Park, unfortunately, this one is not as good a Marche used to be in the same locale."

  • "Food: Clams and pate appertizers were average. Our steaks (2 filets, 1 skirt steak, 1 NY strip) were all very chewy, definitely not high quality steak as I'd expect from a 'steak house'. I'd give one star for the mediocre side dishes and zero star for the steak. Service: Our server was over-eager and rubbed us the wrong way. He even tried to give me instructions how to order my steak! If the chef doesn't understand what medium-rare on a rare side of a steak should be, then he has no business working in a restaurant. Given the food and service were below average, I'd tell other friends to stay away."

  • "I advise diners to not spend their money at this establishment. The service was terrible; we didn't get our wine until we were finished with the appetizer and half way through the salads..I think we saw our server a total of two times after he took our order. The food was marginal at best, my daughter had to send her steak back twice before it was cooked to her order. My husbands ricotta gnocchi was heavy with flour and cooked too long so it was very dry, and my duck was so covered in sauce it drowned out the flavor of the duck breast. I came away with the impression that the kitchen is staffed with cooks who lack experience as well as a young indifferent wait staff."

  • "We brought friends from Maine to LB on Saturday night. Our friend Bill thoroughly enjoyed an entire tomahawk steak (something like TWO pounds of steak). The chef was very impressed and came out and thanked him! We all enjoyed the rest of our entrees and dessert too. Justin was a genial host for our meal. It was a memorable night."

  • "Very attentive, respectful, & knowledgeable service. Food was nicely prepared to our requests. Wine recommendation paired very nicley to meal selection. Our steak dishes were excellent!"

  • "LB Steak is a pleasant restaurant with good food and service. The wines are on the expensive side, with a decent selection. My husband liked his steak very much. The Ricotta Gnocchi were OK, not great. Caesar Salad was good. He chef and manager stopped but to say hello, a nice touch. Service was good."

  • "Wonderful dinner with the wife tonight. Great food and atmosphere and the service was perfect. LB has quickly become one of our top restaurants in the area."

  • "I'm sorry to say, but our experience was not very good. At 7:00pm on a Saturday night they were out of 4 items on the menu: Bone In Filet, Prime Porterhouse, short ribs & an apple crumble dessert. For a steakhouse to run out of this many beef entrees on a Saturday made it seem like poor food management. Our waitress was very apologetic. We know it was not her fault."

  • "I ordered the NY strip and my dad went for the skirt steak. Both were excellent cuts that you would expect in the highest end of steakhouses."

  • "We arrived at 6:30, put our orders in and didn't get our food till 8:00 pm. Some items were missing, or delivered very late. I think the waiter was very new to servicing the wait staff but he tried his best. Still don't think it should've been a 4 hr meal. The food was delicious!"

  • "Saw varying yelp reviews but decided to try lb anyway. I was very disappointed with the god however. Steak was over cooked an vegetable were dead. Very nice waiters with great service though."

  • "I'm not usually a steakhouse guy, but this was a nice place with good service, good food, good wine-by-the-glass options, and good mixed drinks. It's worth a try. I'll be back."

  • "We had hear that LB Steak had a new chef, so we were optimistic. We ordered fried pickles and a salad with greens and citrus. The salad was great. The pickles were abysmally boring. Steaks were cooked perfectly and had plenty of flavor. We had 4 in our group and not a single one of the various side dishes we had contained any flavor - cream spinach, brussels sprouts...none were of the quality one would expect of a good steakhouse. None. We skipped dessert...and we'll skip returning."

  • "Second visit. This time, a major disappointment: dinner in an atmosphere reminiscent of a motel conference room (the "back room") -- which is to say, "no atmosphere at all." This room should be used only for large parties. We had asked for a booth or window table in the front, both available when we arrived on time, but were led to the back, a very bland downer of a space. A partial screen separates it from another where there was a big group celebrating a birthday, and the noise level was awful. Steaks (filet, skirt), mushrooms were good, but the NY Strip, our first choice, was unavailable. Overall, a subpar experience not worth the cost. Sundance Mining Co is a far better choice for both steak and atmosphere."

  • "finally tried lbsteakhouse in menlo park and it wasn't good at all. although the front of the restaurant is very pretty, we were seated in the rear room which has no ambience at all. we were handed a "valentines" menu although it was no longer valentines' day. when i ordered a new york steak ($33.00) i was told they were out of new york steaks. this was at 6pm on a saturday night. i was offered a bone in porterhouse steak instead ($55.00).... the pate was very good, the popovers are wonderful but the spinach was cold and i really did not like the waiter....he had an unbelievably bad attitude and aggravated me no end. all in all - i'll stay away."

  • "Went to LB's for Valentine's day. Very good rating on all steaks. The wine was fabulous and the atmosphere was very good. The downside was that the food was out a bit quick and the service was slow at times. Finally, the salmon was good but not nearly as good as the steak. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and would recommend it and come back!"

  • "I was unimpressed with my petite filet that was the size of a small lemon, on the very rate side of medium rare that I ordered, which meant that the meat was still cold. Baked potato, tepid. Creamed spinach, well seasoned and hot. Clearly my entree waited for my husband and son 's New York steaks to be done. Their steaks were underseasoned but hot. The waiter was clearly miffed that we didn't order starters, but really nothing sounded appealing. No ceasar, no simple garden salad. The hostess smiled and honestly greeted us. That was the last cheerfulness we saw. Waiter was dour and the wine clerk (sommelier? Couldn't tell) was severe and without a trace of friendliness. Wasn't much of an experience."

  • "First time visit. Great decor in the front of the restaurant and bar. Back room decor lacking. Now the Food and Service...They have some great people! Tamara was our server. Outstanding. Mousse pate - creamy and perfect! My husband's LB Burger was incredible and he adored the fries and Brussel sprout side. My petite cut steak - skimpy. Creamed spinach and baked potato has a lot to be desired. Nothing on my plate was seasoned enough; also skimpy on the butter, sour cream and bacon. Little details..but big impact. We will try kit again and hope for a complete hit run. At the very least, the staff is impeccable!"

  • "High quality steaks, intimate atmosphere, nice service. We are steak people and this place was much nicer than the larger venues like Alexander's, Morton's and even Izzy's"

  • "My visit was with my boyfriend and his friend. We all ordered a meat dish and there was not one word spoken as we ate; a good sign of course! ;) Their happy hours run everyday and I plan on going to at least once. The HH menu looked pretty reasonable. Food is pricy and perfect when celebrating something, anything. Portions are not large like your typical steakhouses, but I'm content with that. Makes enough room for the yummy desserts."

  • "The pricey dried aged rib eye steak was especially fatty, not from marbling but from pockets of fat. The sauteed mushrooms were not prepared to order but clearly taken from a pot in the kitchen kept warm and scooped out. They were oily, too. And the roasted brussel sprouts lacked even a hint of caramelization and were closer to being raw. The service was friendly but poor. A cocktail ordered before dinner arrived with dinner and the glass of wine ordered with dinner hadn't yet arrived before we were finished eating. This was my first and last time at a restaurant that cost me $170 for two for lousy food."

  • "I keep wanting to like this restaurant, but the service and food are not great. The guys filling water and busing the tables are attentive and together, but the main server was really not with it. She was just odd, forgot one of our salads, and was absent during the entire meal. I had a salad and the gnocchi. My husband ordered a rib-eye and a salad. We shared a pot de creme dessert which was enormous--, served in a soup bowl, which was just not right. We each had a nice glass of wine. Afterwards we both felt sort of ill because the food was heavy."

  • "I preferred the old menu. There was more variety (in appetizers, salads), and more interesting cuts of meat. This restaurant went from being one of my favorites in Menlo Park, to simply slightly above-average. Sure, it's good, but it's not great (as it used to be only a short time ago). If you remove all of the 'special' cuts of meat, it's tough to call yourself a steakhouse. I can go to Draegers and get a nice filet or NY steak."

  • "Yet another great meal at LB. Service professional; had the short ribs this time. Flavor and presentation wonderful. Ordered a baked potato, once again, a little on the chilly side; but managed to get it to 98.6 in quick order. Alas, on the way to LB I had bragged about the pineapple upside down cake----none available-boooo. My dinner companions both had rib eye steak-looked wonderful. The server mentioned a 14 oz pork chop-I would like to see the size of the porcine that came from.Wow."

  • "Third visit----this one a business dinner. 3 strikes and your out. Mediocre steaks at best----small and relatively tasteless. Skimpy and somewhat embarrassing side portions on this meal. Average to below average service. High prices for the value, and a relatively limited menu. Feels like a "wanna be" premium steakhouse. There are much better choices in the area for a prime steak and elegant service. Overall, underwhelming on every visit -----even my guest commented that this was a "C" meal."

  • "We have been to LB Steakhouse in the past and loved the service and food. This time, The menu was significantly reduced in options of steak. My favorite choice of steak was still on the menu, my husband's was not. The steaks and sides were just as good as they have been in the past, but the service was not. I do not know if they got completely new staff and bar tenders, but we had to wait after being seated for over 15 minutes before the waitress even came to our table, and she was not attentive at all after that. I had to get up to go to the bar twice to get drinks myself, and the bartender was not comfortable with the bar, customer service, or drink making. If this had been my first visit, I would not go back."

  • "I'd like to write a good review because the food was very good an excellent filet Mignon, nice atmosphere, good sides. But what's going in the kitchen! Forty minutes after we placed our order for steak with a side of lobster they came out to say there was no more lobster. They made good by replacing it with some yummy scallops, but the food took an hour to all together to come out and baked potatoes came out long after the steak. I really hope this was a glitch and they get control of the kitchen because the food when it did come was tasty and I'd like to go back!"

  • "Service was attentive and great but the food was very iffy. heard great things about their burger. Ordered mine medium and it came burned and black with a think crust of bitter, hard and dry charred meat. They graciously redid the burger and it was much better. I wouldn't order it again but it was decent. Ordered apple crisp for dessert which for some reason the waitress recommended. It was terrible. the crisp was tasteless and like eating gravel, big pieces of hard something. Apples were okay but the topping ruined it. Not going back. A restaurant this nice and expensive should have more consistently good food!"

  • "L B Steak was recommended by two friends. It's in downtown Menlo Park - lots of parking in the evening. There are other choices on the menu, but steak is what you want. We were greeted & seated promptly. Waitress was knowledgeable about all the dishes and when asked got a recommendation for wine without being offended, when we were not keen on her suggestion. Meal begins with a hot popover muffin with butter; tasty and not filling. Starters are varied. We chose baby lettuces and a beet salad. Both nicely presented and ample. Filet (6oz) & skirt steak were cooked to our liking. You get a choice of two side dishes and one sauce with a steak order. We were pleased with everything. Staff attentive without being intrusive."

  • "Went to LB Steak Menlo Park to check out their Sunday night Prime Rib dinner special. The meat was quite good: flavorful and especially tender. The server was pleasant and attentive.....except......after our salad course was cleared, it took another 45 minutes until our dinner courses appeared! And the restaurant was far from crowded. The waiter said he fired the order on time but the kitchen didn't respond. Strange, since prime ribs are already done and just require slicing. Maybe they had to wait for another rib to finish cooking? It would have been less stressful if the manager came over and said something, offering us a glass of wine or other appeasement while we waited and waited and waited......"

  • "The restaurant is divided into a dining area and a sports bar. If I only saw the dining area, I would think fine dining. If I only saw the bar, I would think sports bar. So I couldn't decide which it is. The food was excellent. I would not hesitate to order the skirt steak and kale salad again. The sturgeon was also good. The service was very good, friendly enough without being too intrusive."
