Lazy Ox CanteenService was very poor andService was very poor and there were about 3 homeless people who came up asking for money. However, the food was really great. Excellent happy hour menu.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMReally great wait staff-not crowdedThis is a really cool restaurant with menu items for even the most picky eaters. The pig ear chicarrones were delicious, the burger was just ok - not a lot of flavor, and the chicken and waffles came with a thigh although they were fried and breaded very well. It's inexpensive too. I will be coming back to try more dishes.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile the meal was good, theWhile the meal was good, the rice pudding was the real gem of the evening. Also, the house sangria was a pleasant surprise, refreshing and interesting.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGoing strong...Lazy Ox is now a perennial, and I think it had a bit of a downswing. But the new chef team (Octavio Becerra is some sort of exec chef -- not sure how much he's actually involved) it's back to being a great place: some of their classic dishes (that great burger), great family style specials and an innovative menu that is still somewhat in the style of the original chef (the guy now at Baco Mercat).
And sitting outside there on a summer L.A. evening is just perfect.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch before the Taper matineePerfect location to sit outside and enjoy a leisurely brunch. Yummy and Interesting, but limited, food selection. The songs chosen by our server that day, playing over the sound system, were great. We entertained ourselves between chatting and eating by guessing each song title and artist before checking it out on Shazam.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a fabulous birthday dinnerHad a fabulous birthday dinner with my family! Great service and food was excellent!!!!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMUnusual and delicious food.Unusual and delicious food. Outstanding happy hour value. Our beet salad-a happy hour special, was market fresh baby beets and much better than beet salad next night at Drago Centro.
Very attentive and informed service.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous foodFood was fabulous as always. Very interesting menu and extremely knowledgeable servers5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSome oddball stuff, plus thingsSome oddball stuff, plus things like good chicken and burger. Interesting wine list with some unusual selections. Still sort of a trendy feel, but very pleasant. Nice outdoor seating now, which was great for on a warm day. Very impressed with the service for this kind of a place. And the neighborhood is trending up.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLA's Best BurgerLots of delicious dishes but perhaps the best burger in the city.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLazy Ox Never DisappointsHave been going to Lazy Ox for over a year. It has a really great vibe, delicious food, excellent selection of craft beers...just a great spot, consistently. It's one of the places we take our friends who come in from the East Coast looking to taste something delicious on this side of town. We went for dinner there Tuesday night with some friends, and it was "King Trivia" night. We had a blast! We ate great food (Smoked Trout was killer and the ribs were smoked to succulent perfection), took 3rd place in trivia, and the service was phenomenal. Lazy Ox Never Disappoints.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMuch Easier to Get Into NowLazy Ox is no longer the "White Hot" restaurant that it once was but the food is still as good as can be. Much easier to get into and since it's not as busy as it once was, the pace isn't so crazy and you don't feel rushed like you used to. Treated out of town friends and spent almost four hours enjoying a number of dishes - Spring Risotto, Salmon, Gnocchi and Pig's Ears among the best of them. Service was terrific by all that served us and they couldn't have been more gracious about us being there so long. I love having them in the neighborhood and can recommend Lazy Ox enthusiastically!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNICE SPOT I THINK A LITTLENICE SPOT I THINK A LITTLE PRICY WITHOUT THE DISCOUNT OR SPECIAL BUT GOOD FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE. THE BEAR SAMPLE WAS VERY COOL.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMUpdated Classics!I enjoy their spins on classics, most recently Southern Fried Chicken. The entire chicken was prepared from head to feet. How tickling to see the entire delicious body on display! The sides -- greens, coleslaw, and biscuits -- we're updated with a different herb palate that was still familiar and kick-y. Or experience was really fun even if a late-coming couple who sat beside us took umbrage to our meal and laughter.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food has always been greatThe food has always been great every time I've come. The few items I've managed to order each time: pig ear chicharron, lazy Ox burger, and the rice pudding for dessert. All of them consistently delicious! Don't forget some great libations, especially the sangria and Hawaiian royal if you like the girlie stuff. Overall, great place but not so great for groups. Check out the happy hour! 5-7/10-close Sun-Thurs half off certain small plates and drinks.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFood varied from middle ofFood varied from middle of the road to quite spectacular. The crab gnocchi was amazing, very flavorful, extremely well done. The smoked trout toast was also spectacular. The beet salad was average and the toad in the hole wasn't very memorable. Prices are a little on the high side for the portion size but for the dishes that were well done more than worth it. Nice place to stop by before the opera.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThey were 15 minutes lateThey were 15 minutes late seating us for a reservation but other than that, a grew evening. Food was by and large very good.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNoise level was ok becauseNoise level was ok because we sat outside. Inside it was a bit more energetic4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMCompact, cozy, and full ofCompact, cozy, and full of new flavors, The Lazy Ox is a great find for those seeking inventive bites. They have good range---they serve a robust marrow and a creamy, simple rice pudding. Try the warm rillets for a touch of comfort.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, as always, despiteExcellent, as always, despite the changes in chefs. The new Crox madame is incredible!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOctavio Becerra has revivedOctavio Becerra has revived the Lazy Ox -- an old favorite -- with some of his signature style from his sadly no more Palate. Beautifully plated and soulful combinations, now with a distinct Galician twist. The Thurs night special of a sea food hot pot was spectacular, the Friday night special porchetta tasty but too fatty, and the various appetizers we had both nights were fabulous.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWas meeting 2 friends fromWas meeting 2 friends from different parts of town in a central location and had heard great things about Lazy Ox Canteen - all true! Tasty and eclectic small plates and entrees shared among the three of us were delicious and well complemented by a wide-ranging choice of off-the-beaten-path wines available by the glass. We greatly enjoyed roasted cauliflower (sounds unexciting, but don't be fooled!), smoked salmon with herb butter, beet salad with smashed avocado, crispy roast chicken with sauteed bitter greens. They topped it all off with sinful chocolate pudding. Beautiful presentation, too - could have been set up for a still life painting - until there was nothing left but orts, which didn't take long. Definitely going back. Deelish!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMissing My PolentaLazy Ox Canteen continues to impress but sad to hear that they removed one of their dishes I continued coming back for and a dish that many other diners have commented on via yelp, that being their 'Polenta' very unique to Lazy Ox Canteen and will definitely drive my decision on how soon I visit Lazy Ox Canteen.

Julio3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! A bit dark inDelicious! A bit dark in the daytime, but worth the trip to Little Tokyo.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding dinner had a groupOutstanding dinner had a group of 6. Split many dishes all great.2/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat serviceWe had the Friday family seafood special. The side salads of muscles, octopus and scallops were all great but the lobster tail and prawns were probably fresherer earlier in the week. Chicken livers and fried chicken have the same heavy coating so have no distinctive flavor. Butterscotch pudding desert is fantastic. Excellent, attentive service.1/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday specialWe had the Sunday special of suckling pig. The meat was tender and flavorful. The BBQ baked beans were okay but wouldn't want them again. Liked the Brussels sprouts and cauliflower.1/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent meal. EspeciallyExcellent meal. Especially liked the brussel sprouts with bacon and apple and the house cured salmon. Great burger. The food has greatly improved with the new chef.11/25/2012 12:00:00 AM
