I didn't like that you can't substitute the "side" item without paying an extra $6-$8 (to an already $35 plate price). I can't imagine that much of the revenue generated is from side items - they should be interchangeable.
Service was decent - didin't see my waiter much. My coffee kept getting cold waiting on cream. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. They never disappoint. I took my mom for Mother's Day. The place was packed, but as always, everything was running smoothly. My family all had prime rib and loved it. I am not much of a beef eater so I ordered the sea bass. It is great that they give the same thought and attention to the non-beef entrees. It was some of the best sea bass I have had - cooked to perfection! It is a tradition for us for certain special occasions.
We only go 2-4 times per year because it is a 45 minute drive (or more with LBJ construction), and because it is not a very good value. The prices keep going up while the portions (prime rib, yorkshire pudding, creamed spinach, etc.) keep getting smaller. Easy to converse, low background noise and the waiters don't bother you constantly. The bill for 2 people with no cocktails was $130 without the tip. Great experience, great food. Will definitely go back for the prime rib. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed the food, but it was a bit surreal eating a salad that was originated over thirty years ago and is still served the same way today. We all ordered the prime rib and I got the California Cut, which was the perfect size for me because I did not want to overeat. My brother ordered the Lawry's Cut and he devoured it and loved it. The Yorkshire Pudding that comes with the prime rib is delicious! My mom ordered the sea bass, which was a good portion for her because she did not want to overeat as well. The lobster bisque soup was tasty and it is one of the best I've had. We also ordered the chocolate souffle for dessert. It takes approximately half an hour to cook, so be sure to ask for it when you order. I think the menu would have been a better choice for a better cut of meat, but more pricey. When the bill came it had to be corrected because the drinks were supposed to be included with the special. They still charged for a side dish of creamed corn, but I did not say anything a second time.
