Diner Reviews
  • "As always, had the best Prime Rib I have ever eaten! Took my wife, kids & in-laws for the first time. They loved it. Top notch service!"

  • "We go everytime we visit Chicago. The air conditioning was not working on Sunday so it did not make for a comfortable dining experience. Otherwise, everything was top notch!"

  • "Great food, good service and never was disappointed. Will come again!"

  • "It's been a few years since my wife and I dined at Lowry's in Chicago. As we arrived at the restaurant for an early Independence Day dinner, I wondered if the experience would be as wonderful as I had remembered - it was even better! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves prime rib. Can't say enough good things about our experience."

  • "Lawry's continues to deliver a superb dining experience, between the timeless interior, prime rib cooked right in front of you, and the incredible flavor and seasonings that take their meat up a notch. The filet, jumbo sized shrimp, prime rib, and salmon special were all cooked to perfection-and if there's one thing Lawry's knows well its seasonings. Highly recommend this place for a big group dinner or an intimate special occasion."

  • "DISAPPOINTED, my son & husband ordered Lawry's rib eye, both was chewy. My husband only ate quarter of it"

  • "The Prime Rib was incredible! The chocolate mousse cake was delicious and it was nice of them to sing for our anniversary."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "The atmosphere was beautiful and the staff very attentive. The prime rib was very good, but too pricey. One word of advice -- the creamed spinach is really bad and they charge $7 for it. Definitely a special occasion place."
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "english cut prime rib was fatty this time. Last time it was really lean. The dressing on the salad was just ok."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "I would recommend Lawry's to a friend only for the fact that it is iconic, and the prime rib is very good."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Waitress had to many tables. we waited along time to give our order. They brought our salid and we had to ask for bread. On the other hand the waitress was extremely fast at bring the check and taking our money. P.S . The food was great."

  • "It was 1977 and I was 17 yrs old for my first visit to Lawry's with my girlfriend, now wife. It was the first fine restaurant I'd ever dined in and it was truly phenomenal.....but I really had nothing to compare it against. Flash forward to 2014 (yes 37 years later) and I am again at Lawry with that same girl from 1997, convinced that with all fine restaurants we'd been to over the years - there's no way Lawry's could wow us the way it did in 1997. We were wrong. It was fantastic. The room, the service, and that magically savory prime rib were absolutely dynamite. The room is sumptuous and quiet. The waitstaff is attentive and professional. The prime rib is the best we've had anywhere. We won't wait another 37 years to return !"

  • "a classic restaurant that offers the greates of all pleasures, a wonderful prime rib dinner just the way you like it. lawry's offers the benefit to seat a group as we had, 9 adults, in comfort and a table that meets the needs for easy conversation. service is outstanding and staff is very accomodating. see you again.....hopefully, soon. as a cancer survivor, it was a wonderful experience. thanks, greg"

  • "The salad needs fresher and newer types of greens. The beets was a nice touch."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Simpson's on the Strand in Chicago (or Beverly Hills, or Las Vegas), only with American prime rib and the best creamed spinach anywhere. It even has Simpson's Yorkshire Pudding, only a bit lighter and less "lardy." The house red wine was excellent and quite a bargain."

  • "Great evening! Lawry's did not disappoint. They don't try to be anything other than what they are, which is an excellent prime rib restaurant. Very old school, but done exceptionally well. And the Art Deco meat serving stations have to be experienced in person. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable."

  • "We all ordered different cuts and cooking levels, it all came out same color cut and all was great"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Lawry's is a classic and has stayed true to their core competency -- great prime rib. Still my favorite prime rib place year after year."

  • "We had a group of 8 people for my Dad's 80th birthday. They went out of their way to accommodate our special requests (such as handling the bill) and even brought my Dad a surprise dessert. Service was top-notch and food, while expensive, was high quality and top notch."

  • "We were very happy with the service, food, and surroundings of the restaurant. If you are looking for a place to go that has a beautiful interior setting, doesn't have that awful din of noise and people crammed in so tight you can't even comfortably push your chair back to leave your seat, this is the place. The historic beauty of the restaurant, the pleasant staff, and of course, unbelievable prime rib made this a great dining experience."

  • "Our waitress Miss Gill was too pushy at first almost insisting we order an appetizer. The one serving the prime rib didn't. Say a word - thought. He was supposed to explain the cuts etc. Then no one checked to see if we needed anything until it was time for the bill. I would have liked some coffee or dessert but we had a play to get to.. The food was top notch which is why we chose Lowrys but I was not happy with the service at all!!"

  • "The food was excellent but the waitress was way over the top. Spoiled the evening"

  • "This was my first time at Lawry's and it was great. The food was excellent, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the layout was wonderful. I must say that the prime rib was cooked exactly as I wanted it."

  • "We enjoyed an early Father's Day dinner recently with 6 of us dining in the smaller room. Our server seemed over whelmed and we did have to ask for certain things a few times, but her personality and charm won us over. Prime rib is king at Lawry's and we were not disappointed. Hope to be back for another special occasion."

  • "We did an early Father's Day celebration with our adult children at Lawry's - Dad's choice. Prime rib is always wonderful and the service is stellar. My daughter-in-law had the filet and said it was perfectly prepared. We were seated in a little alcove in the room near the bar and the chance to catch up in our own little nook was great - even the somewhat hard-of-hearing member of our group was fully engaged in conversation. This is our place for special occasions! (Love their creamed spinach!)"

  • "Lawry's is food, service and ambience perfection. From the greeting to the last bite everything makes a lasting memory."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "We went because my husband loves prime rib and it was his birthday. My main reactions are that it is a little too formulaic and rather old fashioned. Those waitress uniforms!! The waitress does her little talks about the spinning salad bowl and introducing the carver and the service was fine, but the prime rib was just ok -- not outstanding, which it should have been at those prices. It was all a little boring I am afraid. I can't imagine many young people wanting to go there. We will not recommend it."

  • "If you're looking for an elegant dining experience, look no further than Lawry's. The personalized service of the spinning salad bowl and the carving cart brought to your table, makes you feel really special. The wait staff treats you like they are so glad you came. Don't miss an opportunity to try it."

  • "I come to Lawry's when I am downtown. Without a doubt the best Prime Rib around. I love the ambiance."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "They consistently do prime rib the best. We had our kids with us and the kids menu was perfect with offerings including what the adults have just smaller portion and price. Wait help were attentive. Valet had our car waiting when we got out."

  • "A fantastic meal from start to finish! Great service, impeccable food! I cannot think of a better dining experience since we ate at the Lawry's in Los Angeles! This place is a true gem!"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Good meat and potatoes place. Beautiful ambience, but piped in music a little too loud. If you remember the old Blackhawk, the spinning bowl salad here is a real disappointment. The drama is missing and the salad is just ok. Service was excellent, but on the whole, the meal was average."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Nice menu and wine list. The waitresses English dresses were charming. We bother ordered the prime rib dinner, I had the Lawry cut, my husband, the beef bowl cut. The serving size was perfectly portioned for each of us. Spinning salad and whipped cream horseradish was "melt in your mouth" delish! Next time we're in Chicago, Lawry's is on our To-Go-To list."
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • "Still wonderful, even after a gap of 25 years since we were last at this location! We had a darling waitress, a wee bit absent-minded, but a definite asset to the old-time feel. We were delighted to be able to use all of our $25 loyalty checks, so our meal was free. We shared an order of the asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, at $9 a bit pricey, but more than enough to share. We even bought a jar of CC Brown's Hot Fudge sauce to take home with us. The one thing we noticed was the very relaxed dress of the diners in sharp contrast to the starched elegance of the servers. The times they are a-changing..."
