  • "The ambiance is wonderful! We were greeted by a very friendly hostess. We had reservations and were seated fairly quickly for arriving early. The food was wonderful! Such good flavor and being able to see the prime rib carved tableside was quite an experience! We were all so full and left there very satisfied with the experience."

  • "I've planned this dinner for over a year & built up high expectations - it matched or exceeded all my hopes. It was relatively expensive but worth every dollar & the experience was priceless."

  • "Lawry's did not disappoint, the service and food were both excellent."

  • "There is no question that Lawry's is the ultimate experience for Prime Rib Lovers. However, some of us have friends and family with dietary restrictions. Although there are a few seafood and vegetarian options on the menu, the wait-staff demonstrated less than a tolerant attitude when asked specific questions about those options. The tone and delivery of responses certainly affected the climate at the table. As long as everyone in the party is prepared to eat meat, you are safe."

  • "During a recent visit to Chicago with my girlfriends, we made a trip to Lawrys and I was skeptical because the first time my visit wasn't that great. This visit on Saturday 4/12/2014 more then made up for it. The food was great and so was our service. It was also nice that since it was my girlfriends birthday, they brought her a complimentary desert! Great visit. I can't wait to bring my husband back to the restaurant in a month."

  • "The Prime Rib was outstanding as usual and the Yorkshire Pudding is my favorite! Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We had a large group but everything came out on time and was great."

  • "Excellent, we drive up from Milwaukee three or four times per year for this fabulous prime rib."

  • "A lovely place with good food and service although the food is not as good as it used to be."

  • "I've been going to Lawry's for over 30 years. Best prime rib in the city. If your not having prime rib, go elsewhere, but if you have a taste for prime rib, this is the place."

  • "I didn't appreciate being seated at the kitchen. Who does that. It was so noisy. Waitresses and waiter running in and out. Then the black guy at the reservation desk acted like we didn't or couldn't have a reservation there, but the female immediately spotted it. I don't plan to return."

  • "Food was excellent! My kids love steak and so they were in Heaven! It is a very nice restaurant but they were very kid-friendly. The manager even came around and gave the kids high fives. They were all excellent and I would definitely recommend this for a family looking for a good meal when visiting Chicago!"

  • "Have been going to Lawrys for years and have always enjoyed a fine meal and good service. We make Lawrys a traditional stop whenever in Chicago. Look forward to the next visit! Do make reservations"

  • "The food and service was spectacular. However, the seating was very cramped. If I am going to pay a premium for this dining experience I would have like enough space for the food to sit on the table. Further, they apparently used drop leaf tables which they raise to make a larger table for a group. Problem is all of the leaves are worn out and sagging. Literally my gravy was running off of my plate and nearly onto my tie. Also, the table was so unbalance that whenever someone moved the entire table moved."

  • "I have been here several times & always recommend to everyone. Was very disappointed that 2 women with us decided to split an ice cream & only ask for a spoon & was charged $4.00 really! Will rethink going back:("

  • "Every time we come to Chicago, we eat at Lawrys. It is our favorite restaurant. Nothing has changed from the impeccable service, the outfits, the food. What more can I say. When you want hand carved prime rib, in a fabulous setting, with great service and a throwback to another era, this is the place to go."

  • "I have been dining at Lawry's since I was a little girl. It was my family's go to spot for special occasions. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and I was raving about how amazing everything was and I was so excited to take him and our waitress could tell I was a regular and she loved my enthusiasm. My boyfriend ended up absolutely loving everything about Lawry's, (especially the food) and i had him asking me when are we going back immediately after we left. Five stars all around. I love Lawry's! Always will be my favorite restaurant!"

  • "This is a great old world restaurant that preserves a good old fashion experience. The service is excellent and the ambiance is very good. For folks that come here regularly, you come for that experience. The ceremony is fun. The reason I am giving them 4 stars, this time around, the prime rib was 4 out 5 stars. They would graciously swap it out, but for some reason, the cart we were being served out of, just wanted a knock out and I didn't want to make a fuss. We ordered Au Gratin on the side, and it came a bit undercooked. The potatoes were a bit harder (not as soft) as I would have expected. The salad & drinks were great. This is really the first time I had this miss so I hope it is a one-off. We'll be back"

  • "From our first dining experience many years ago to this most recent one, nothing has changed and the food was as delicious as always. Our waitress wasn't as memorable as those we've had in the past but her somewhat subdued personality did not take away the enjoyment of our meal. We were there to celebrate our 35th anniversary and happily did just that."

  • "Greetings I love Lawry's! I travel to Chicago at least once a year and Lawry's can be depended on for a fab prime rib done the traditional way. The decor and servers all reinforce that impression. Amazing food, great service and a place where you can actually hear your dining companions - you are not surrounded by muzak at a too high volume level. This is a wonderful place for a great dinner with your business companions. Never disappointing! Love it!"

  • "I was introduced to Lawry's The Prime Rib about 25 years ago in Los Angles. Since I enjoy prime rib, I was hooked. The menu is predictable, but the prime rib never fails to satisfy. Living in the western suburbs, it's a bit of work to get into Chicago, so I don't visit Lawry's very often. This makes a visit a nice treat. I tried valet parking and I can recommend this option."

  • "Delicious food and wonderful service. Our server had worked at Lawry's for thirty years and genuinely cared that my partner and I had a wonderful evening. The prime rib was top notch, and we found a great deal on a very nice bottle of red wine. It is pricier, but that is what you get in any steakhouse in Chicago. The service and quiet ambiance make it well worth it."

  • "We have been celebrating my wife's B-day at Lawrys in March every year for as long as I can remember. We do not live in Chicago but travel there every year for a trade show. Larue one of the carvers, we have gotten to know over the years, makes our evening even more enjoyable & we go so far as to request him! The wait staff is excellent & do not rush us as we like to take our time sipping good vino & just talking. The best Prime rib anywhere period! There are a lot of great restaurants in Chi but we always have Lawrys on our list for one of the 4 nights."

  • "On a girls weekend in Chicago, my best friend and I had dinner here. We were both super excited about the dinner and boy were we ever disappointed. We were sat next to a very large party (approx. 20+ people) who was very loud. They provided some good entertainment which was the highlight of the meal. Our waitress on the other hand was very rude and condesending. She spoke to us like were southern incest people just because we had southern accents. When she told us about the menu she talked so fast that we couldn't understand her and she acted like she was in such a huge rush all the time. She treated us like we were not important to her at all, and it cost her the tip. After receiving our food she never came back to check on us."

  • "Great Prime Rib and everything was outstanding. Noelle was our waitress and was very friendly and helpful. High quality food and great atmosphere. My only complaint was the wine I ordered was out of stock which was a little surprising given the wine list is not that extensive. If you want the best Prime Rib in Chicago, this is the place. 5-stars."

  • "Lawry's is my boyfriend's favorite restaurant, so I brought him there for a birthday celebration before the Hawk's game. He was able to get an end-cut which he said was delicious. The Cool Cucumber martini is now on my list of favorites. It's a martini that's refreshing, slightly sweet with a botanical essence. As we're planning our future together, we agreed that Lawry's will be on our list of places to spend a special evening and enjoy the city."

  • "If you are going for old school, perfect prime rib this is your place! A little spinning salad show, amazing prime rib, very reasonable wine list- and first class service! It's good to see some things never change! A delight!"

  • "When you are looking for the very best in quality of prime rib, this is the only place to go. Everything, in fact, from the food to the service, is top quality. We went to Lawry's as part of a day celebrating my birthday, and it was the perfect end to a really great day in our beautiful city of Chicago. The staff is professional, and friendly. The restaurant is clean and extremely well-kept. The food - delicious and top quality."

  • "We dined at Lawry's on 3/20/14 and enjoyed our dinner until we received our check. We were charged an additional $12.00 ($6.00 per person) for a vegetable with our meal. Prior to ordering, we had not been informed by our server that there would be a surcharge for a vegetable. Also, our menus were taken away before we had a chance to consult them before ordering. The dinner itself was large, so the vegetables were superfluous, and had we known, we could have saved $12.00 on a hefty check to begin with."

  • "If you like prime rib this is THE place in Chicago. This is an old institution, anchored by great food and outstanding service. Our waitress was a 30 year employee. You don't see much of that anymore."

  • "Ate at Lawrys many times for prime rib and my last visit was above and beyond the call of duty. The prome rib was full of flavor, service was wxcelent as usual. My favorite place in Chicago."

  • "We found the food, service and overall ambience outstanding but the noise level was terrible..very loud which prevented the party of five from enjoying conversation. Other than that, we all enjoyed the meal."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "Service was extremely dis-jointed and poorly coordinated - the reply to every query was "it's coming" -- we waited over 10 minutes for the sparkling water. We had to send the prime rib back because it was very tough, second batch was better but a far cry from the standard we are used to. The vegetables "were coming" and arrived 1/2 way through the meal. Waitress was very ordinary. It was St. Patrick's Day and they were busy, I suspect they ran short of the long-slow cooked prime rib and had to add additional roasts to cover the crowds."
