Lawry's The Prime Rib - Beverly HillsGreat Celebration!I had not been to Lawry's in many, many years, but had a keen desire for some really good prime rib to celebrate my mother's and my birthday. Of course, I immediately thought of Lawry's! We booked our reservation only the day before and had limited seating times available (4:30 and 8 pm). We went for the earlier reservation and were quite glad we did as when we left around 6:30 pm, the entry and driveway were crazy busy. The meal was fabulous and the service even better! I simply love the atmosphere, customer service and most importantly the food, its no place quite like it. My guest enjoyed every aspect of their experience as well, it was their first time. We did not wait long for our 4:30 reservation. However, I did not like the seating arrangement. Everything was outstanding except the initial wait to get seated. Our reservation was at 8:45 pm but we were not seated until around 9:15. Everyone in my party ordered the Lawry's cut and they were great, as always. We received a free dessert for the occasion which was very thoughtful. Lawry's has great ambience for special occasions and romantic dates. Got there on time; however it seems the restaurant wasn't prepared to honor it. Oh yes there were many booths and tables available. However their wait service was not. Had to wait extra minutes before they would seat us. Complained to the hostess twice and finally asked to speak to the manager. She apologized too...but still we waited. They should NOT be taking reservations for times when they seem unable to accommodate their guests. And they might have provided some good will gesture to compensate for this--discounted our food or sent over an appetizer or done something. Since I like my prime rib well done, at most restaurants it is often dry; however, Lawry's end cut prime rib is moist, tender, and delicious! Lawry's prime rib cuts are always fresh, tasty, and very tender. Of course being that it was Mother's Day there was a wait 10 15 minutes at the most. The place was packed. I would still go back next year because, even with the crowd, the service was still great. People were sitting and standing shoulder to shoulder in the lobby area and even in the valet parking area. I wondered if our experience would be chaotic and my reservation delayed. But of course, this is Lawry's. Staff was very gracious and efficient. We were seated within 10 minutes of my reservation and service was impeccable and very friendly. The dinning room was the exact opposite of the waiting area -- very calm, low level of noise and so traditionally classy. The prime rib was amazing and side dishes very good. We came to see the Dodgers and were never Angel's fans, but went to Lawry's in LA for special occasions and then headed down the PCH to Huntington and later Newport Beaches. This is the restaurant at which I always thought Perry Mason ate even (or should have throughout his series). Highly recommend the early dining where all the servers line up then each is personally assigned to that specific guest/guest party. We were fortunate to have a server (25 years with Lawry's) who not only exceeded our expectations; she made our dining experience one that we will never forget. The prime rib melted in your mouth and their special salad was just that. We were in awe when the chef rolled over this sea shell looking cart and then proceeded to cut our meat to order adorning the plate with our other selections. I was not aware that lawry's is also located over there. I prefer the Beverly Hills location. Ms. Ott was also a pleasure to see. I am disappointed about the dress code. It used to be that people came to the establishment dress accordingly. Now people dress like hobos in jeans. I wish lawry's has a dress night code for a specific night.. Like Thursday.
