Diner Reviews
  • "very deep menu - all kinds of great foods from raw bar to pasta to great steaks and fish. Loud would be an understatement, so don't try to have a quiet conversation, but if you want to be in a lively place on a Tuesday nite - you found it. Prices high end even for Manhattan."

  • "This is one of my favorites restaurants in the City. Whenever Restaurant Week rolls around, I always make sure I visit Lavo at least twice."

  • "It was a great time. I had the Lavo burger with truffle fries. Mid rare. It was cooked perfect. The fries were delicious. My girl had the chicken marsala she loved it, she ate the hole thing. It was a great experience over all. Cant wait to get back there."

  • "Friends at work rave about Lavo, but I found it just okay. The food is fine but not that creative or that well-executed. I probably would be more impressed if I didn't feel it was overpriced. If I could name my price, I'd say the $28 porchetta pizza (really good pizza base but too salty and not enough pistachios to cut the salt) should cost about $14 and the $16 garden salad (just a few leaves, light on the dressing and about three grape tomatoes cut in half) should run about $8 (maybe $10 given the rents in the area). Dining at Lavo for a work outing is fine, but I would not go on my own dime."

  • "Went here for the second time for a team lunch during restaurant week. Their menu is normally quite pricey for just a lunch, but there is excellent value in their restaurant week menu. I had been craving their Caesar salad since my last visit as they have a particularly good one with creamy dressing and crisp romaine. Everyone enjoyed all their courses. The penne vodka, chicken marsala, and steak were all good. The oreo zeppole dessert was a particular favorite at our table. No complaints on the service. We will go back again."

  • "Noisy...okay food...server was harried. Don't allow guests to mingle outside your restaurant until it opens.......let them in earlier and let them order drinks at the bar."

  • "My girlfriends and I went to dinner for our birthdays and everything was marvelous! The music was great, the food was amazing and our waiter was very attentive."

  • "we have a reservation at 830 and were seated promptly. the waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and will absolutely return. great night out and great atmosphere for a fun."

  • "We were seated promptly and courteously. Our waiter was friendly but bus boys are aggressive so be sure you are finished. Chicken was very good. Pasta dishes were good not spectacular. However eggplant parmigiana was huge and even though appetizer I ate it as a meal. I did not like the noise but I suspect many enjoyed vibrant scene around the bar. Overall I would eat there again but not rush back on my next visit to NY."

  • "The place was packed so reservations are a must - noisy at first but it quieted down after just a couple tables emptied. Excellent food - best meal of the weekend !"

  • "Went during restaurant week with co-workers. The portions were still very sizeable and the food was so tasty! Excellent staff, great ambiance. Overall, a great experience!"

  • "Good food, but the noise level was deafening, not great for conversation."

  • "Business lunch with important client. Service superb with the waiter suggesting a drink for my client that wasn't on the menu. Food is always consistently delicious."

  • "It was not my first time in Lavo. The food was as good as the last time, the service was very good. The ambience is as chic as you can get in NYC, is a busy place but is worth the difficulties to get seatted in this nice place."

  • "noise terrible, service terrible, entrance exhausting"

  • "We hit Lavo for an early dinner on July fourth weekend with our son. Holiday weekends are a good time to try trendy places without crowds. Previous trips to Lavo were great and then awful. I do not love the decor (not as flashy as their sister Tao across the street) but it was VERY good. We had octopus, calamari, pasta, carpaccio , truffle fries, meatballs, rice balls, Oreo zeppoles and panna cotta. All delicious. Drink and wine menu was also great . Do not expect gourmet, this restaurant is about classic dishes done right. The service was a little spotty so many staff members , but not as attentive as they could be with the place really slow. I would go back however with my family or a group. Order the Uva martini- delicious !"

  • "We had 5:45 reservations and were promptly seated. The place was already busy. Our waitress was very attentive and had some great suggestions. All the food was delicious, with the exception of the Gnocchi...to grainy. Everything else was spot on especially the oysters on the half shell. We were a group of five and no one had a complaint? Make sure to save room for the fried Oreo zeppole? The best I have had. We all had a great time with great food. Would definitely go back."

  • "This was a truly awful experience. The food was wretched and for what was offered, outrageously overpriced. There is a club in the basement, but it's clear that the ambiance of the restaurant on the ground floor is designed to replicate its noise level which can only be described as standing directly behind the engines of a 747 on its takeoff roll. At a small table for six it was totally impossible to carry on any conversation during the 2 1/2 hours it took us to get through a two-course dinner. With not a single bottle of wine and two courses, the bill for six came to $360....and this was no three-star restau. Food was totally unimaginative and pedestrian. Do better at Papa John's pizza (not that I've ever been there). NEVER again."

  • "Terrible food, dishes are left on the table almost full with out any notice from the waitress. (also at the table next to us) poor service, it was our second time at the restaurant, last time was 3 years ago, unfortunately nothing have changed."

  • "Came to Lavo on Thursday night for my first time and brought a special person with me. Loved it, food was outstanding, service was on point, overall best dinner experience I've had in my life. Mood was perfect."

  • "There's so much i can say about Lavo, from the great food, to the excellent servers. Everything was perfect and I look forward to going again."

  • "Exciting vibe with food to match. A combination steak and Italian establishment which delivers on both. Don't pass the meatball appetizer but you'll need 2-3 to share. Can't go wrong on beef, fish or chicken dishes. Vibrant bar scene all night long."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Very good restaurant with a special food and a very good DJ. Great night !"

  • "We visited LAVO on our first night of a girls weekend in NYC, we had reservations and although packed when we arrived we were seated immediately. The service was attentive, and our food came out in good time. We all enjoyed our food, would definitely come back and I would recommend Lavos for anyone that wants a vibrant, hot spot in midtown NYC"
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Very popular, crowded, noisy. Impossible to talk to others at your table. Wedge salad for $19 very ordinary, below average. Huge eggplant parmesan appetizer seemed defrosted or overcooked, tuna tartare/avocado appetizer mediocre. Seems like "in" place at current time....probably won't last."

  • "I had horrible experience my dinner at Lavo, I made reservation 2 weeks ahead for my friend birthday as 9.30 pm Sunday , and we arrived at 9.15 which was on time ! and they made us wait until 11 pm to be seated , and they have been keep saying they can seat us either outside or outside of the show area they don’t even take reservation to that area ! and reservation manager was very rude and she didn’t even apology basically she ruined our night with her attitude.."

  • "this "hot spot" By far was my worst experience. The waitress was nice, we ordered appetizers which took a while to come out.. Then we had our entrees which took forever to come after the appetizers ... Finally 2 hrs into our reservation WHILE WE WERE STILL EATING... They come to clear the table so we told them we r still eating them I heard the waiters whisper something to the manager who were clearly talking about us which made us very uncomfortable .. Then the manager approaches is telling us that the reservation is for only 2 hrs and we must leave ... We told them we wanted dessert so they just picked any dessert and brought it to us. They thought to shut us up by not charging us for dessert . Terrible environment, would never go again!"

  • "We heard Lavo was a hot spot in NYC - so decided to see what the hype was . I thought it was run down , and the food was just OK. Not sure we would return anytime soon ."

  • "Very noisy and tables too close next to each other so it was very difficult to have conversations. Food is ok but too pricy considering the quality. "

  • "Excellent food and service as always. I always go here with my family as they happily seat large groups "

  • "Lavo is great for people watching, great service by attentive waiters and great food. The meatball special never dissapoints. The desserts are rich and pretty. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. "

  • "While I like the Reatauant - service was great, food good . I find the hostess to be rude generally speaking - I was dining with important clients - she shoved us as far back as Possible next to the bathroom when there were plenty of tables in front "
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "For $85 your shrimp shouldn't be the consistency of a rubber spatula with the taste of tuna. Service was ok but could barely hear my date across the table and felt like I was on a double date with strangers because the couple next to us was so close. "

  • "Great restaurant, vibrant scene, great bday celebration esp on a Sunday! However very very tough to change the time of a reservation and ask for a table in the middle of the restaurant. Called for an entire week, even the day of and we still got a table in the back section by the DJ which ended up being livelier than the middle anyway! I have no idea what the secret is or why so difficult to get a table in the middle! Other than that. great party place, great food and service! Will go there again! "
