Located in the heart of downtown Palo Alto, Lavanda invites all that enjoy fine wine and Mediterranean Italian & Croatian cuisine to come and see this beautifully renovated restaurant. "
Lavanda is a fantastic restaurant in downtown Palo Alto. Co-owner Bruce always makes patrons feel special and the food, a mixture of 'modern Californian' and Croatian specials, is always prepared to perfection.
The wine list is extensive and the staff are always very helpful with recommendations and suggestions for matching wine and food.
All in all, a great night out!

We came on a Sunday night and had the great displeasure of being serenaded by an off-tune live performer near the entrance. The food was good. The bacon-wrapped dates were a wonderful appetizer. The braised lamb spare ribs were too greasy, and the pork belly came with too many unpleasant sides on a plate small enough to ensure that the pork would touch them all. My dining companions got the baked ziti (yummy, full of vegetables, and cheesy) and the salmon (flavorful and accompanied by fluffy couscous). The chocolate lava cake was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly, and service was prompt. An excellent dinner spot.

Not every place is gracious to single diners, but I chose Lavanda for a recent solo dinner because I thought it would be. Everyone was -- except the proprietor. He greeted or introduced himself to the couples on either side of me, and to groups of diners nearby, but did not even make eye contact with me. Brrrrr!!! I'm glad his staff does not follow his apparent example.

We've been to Lavanda several times over the years and it's always been a wonderful experience. However, this time the seating hostess was a bit immature and lacked patience. Her tapping finger on the menus implied her annoyance that we were taking too long to be seated so she could get her "duty" over with and pass us our menus. I told her to hand me all of the menus as her message was clear. A sour start to an otherwise wonderful, attentive server. Dinner was excellent.
