All menu items at Lavagna are prepared from scratch, including our pasta. The menu changes weekly as well as seasonally so it can feature only the freshest local ingredients. Lavagna is expanding the house-made charcuterie program and is adding a line of house-made local preserves, with offerings varying week to week. Lavagna also offers a variety of Italian wines, beers from around the world and distinctive craft cocktails.Continued

  • "I've eaten here before and I remembered it as pretty good. Farm to table cuisine, nice menu, affordable. But this time our brunch for 7 people was disappointing. The waitress highly recommended the spaghetti carbonara, and seriously it was almost inedible. Overcooked pasta, way too heavy, and overly salty. But beyond that single dish, everyone's meal was just not that good tasting. Possibly an off day? Or a restaurant that has let it's quality slide considerably. To her credit, the waitress was lovely and she took the pasta off the tab (and offered something else in its place). But beware of this one."

  • "Since bottomless brunch is a popular thing in DC now, its easy to say that Lavagne falls short. The food is mediocre, and they have a time limit on your drinks. In 90 minutes I got 4 mimosas, because our server was slow and was taking advantage of the fact that he would be receiving an automatic gratuity for a large table. We asked to be seated near another large party, and the restaurant was not accommodating, instead we got attitude. The ridiculous part is, there was an empty large table right next to us, that was not seated until we were paying our bill. If you have a time limit on brunch anyway, why wouldn't you seat us with a party who also had a reservation at the same time? At least our food came out fast!"

  • "A small group of us were out for dinner and decided to try something new. So glad we did. Place was mostly full but not overpacked. Ambiance was good, but nothing to write home about. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Then came the food. The fantastic food. Fresh homemade pasta made my wife and I feel like we were back in Italy. The desserts were almost as good. The panna cotta and tiramisu were both remarkably good. My only complaint was I ate too much."

  • "Met a couple of out-of-town friends for dinner at Lavagna based on internet reviews, and it did not disappoint. The food was great - and different! Locally sourced, handmade - we ordered an appetizer sampler of cheese and meats that was awesome. The meal itself was likewise delicious and I love that you can order a half portion and forego the doggy bag. Bottles of wine also happened to be on sale when we were there, which made for a convivial evening. Finally, two of the three people in our party got lost on the way there, and were quite late in arriving, but the wait staff was very patient and pleasant and did not write us off as losers despite our tardiness. The atmosphere was just the right amount of lively but not too loud."

  • "All my friends rave about LaVagna's brunch, but when I brought my friends our food all came cold and two in our group had to wait (and the waitress advised us against waiting for everyone to have food. Then a friend unsatisfied with her meal and tried to order something else she was met with a waitress who dumped replacement sides on her plate...interesting experience for sure. As for the bottomless mimosas, we found a few bottoms but they were delicious!"

  • "The restaurant already has us a little biased because they make it clear that all of the food comes from local farms (which they list out for you) and everything is cooked from scratch in house. In addition, their food was excellent as well. My girlfriend and I had an appetizer plate of meats and cheeses, which were fantastic (hormone free meat and free range chicken) as were the side ingredients they put with it, which included: bacon jam, house made mustard, and apple butter. My girlfriend and I each had pasta dishes which were fantastic. We also had two desserts, nutella mousse and tiramisu, both of which were also great. Prices were reasonable and considering the quality of food you received, well worth it."

  • "Found this place to be slightly less traveled than the other places in Eastern Market, it still filled up but wasn't overflowing. We had made a reservation and were seated right away, the service was unbelievably fast and we had a very pleasant meal.   • "This is a real gem. The food is good. The pastas are fresh and eclectic. The plates are not oversized and tasteless. They are a perfect portion. I had the squid ink pasta and seafood dish. The pasta was excellent, the calamari was perfectly cooked, not rubber and the shrimp was fresh. This sauce was not my mom's but it was a very good version. Definitely as must try. The wine list is very well thought out and not overly priced."

  • "I have been to Lavagna for dinner and brunch. The dinner waitstaff were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious, you can definitely tell it's from scratch and fresh. Large portions perfect for sharing in order to try a couple different things. Unfortunately, the waitress we had for brunch was very rude and rushed us to order, to eat and to pay the bill. With a better waitress, I would say this is a top 10 DC brunch spot out of my experiences with delicious food, bottomless mimosas (for 90 minutes but it's enough!) and a very pleasant open air atmosphere. Can't wait to go back (and hopefully have a calmer waitress!)"

  • "We visited Lavagna for brunch after we saw it recommended in a popular local brunch blog. Imagine our surprise when we were handed the menus and saw the words "Bottomless Mimosas - 90 min limit" printed on the menu! We asked our server about this, and he said that they had a lot of bookings that day, so they decided to put that on the menu to turn the tables more quickly. Somehow, I don't think this is the best way to make your guests feel welcome, especially during what's supposed to be a leisurely weekend meal with friends. As for the food, it was nicely presented but was served on the warm-to-cold side. All in all, not putting their best foot forward, and given that they just wanted us in and out, I can't recommend the restaurant."

  • "A friend and I had a glorious evening at Lavagna this past Saturday. Both females, we ordered the half portions and split the delicious Brussels sprouts. We each had a glass of wine and my friend had a coupon for a complimentary dessert. That said, and splitting the bill, we each only spent a little over $30 including tip. The noise level was minimal. The service was focused but not looming. The pasta was idea. Street parking was a bit of a trick but worth circling a few times to dine at this gem."

  • "I've lived on the hill for ten years now, and I can honestly say this was the worst dining experience I have had in that time. We took the server's advice and ordered the ravioli and duck breast. One hour and 25 minutes later we got our entrees. During that time all the tables around us were seated, fed, and cashed out. When our bill finally came there wade no discount and no apology from the owner or manager. $90 for a meal we could have made ourselves. NEVER going back..."

  • "The food itself is incredibly fresh and you do live up to your locally sourced philosophy. That said, I think you should be a little better at tailoring your menu for more seasonally appropriate fare. It is unwise to market a fresh fruit plate in the dead of an East Coast winter which is still in the throes of a cold cycle. For the price point you set, you gave your customers unripened grapes, sour apples, and oranges of questionable quality when a variety of other satisfying and locally available fruits could have been offered (check the Eastern Market Farmer's Market right up the road). Your food is generally top-notch, so my disappointment in the offering was immense."

It wasn't crowded so conversation at a table for 2 was easy. I went for lunch so it was not the full menu but I was not at all disappointed with the choices offered. I will definitely go back."

  • "I love Lavanga, especially on restaurant week. I appreciated that the whole menu was available; the steak was perfectly cooked and the scallops are to die for! Really love the quality of the food and how consistent my every visit is. Our service was a bit slow at first but the floor manager was definitely doing his job and helping out his wait staff. I later learned that they were a waiter short so I'm definitely impressed by how they handled the FOH. Good wine service, the food runners all knew the seat numbers, no mix-ups, and the food was cooked in a timely manner. Great BOH and FOH coordination. Thank you!"

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to try this restuarant after we saw it on the Restaurant Week menu. We were skeptical at first but, when we sat down and got our appetizer, we realized what a great choice I made! The appetizer was great so we were excited to get our next course. I ordered the NY Strip and he ordered the duck. I thoroughly enjoyed my steak but, my boyfriend fell in love with the duck. We have eaten at a lot of different restaurants and he raved about the food here. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I chose to make a reservation to brunch at Lavagna for New Years Day, and I did not regret my decision. We arrived on time for our reservation, but we not seated for 45 minutes... The only downside to our experience. They should have anticipated that people would want to take their time on New Years Day, because that long of a wait is unacceptable with a reservation. Fortunately the rest of our experience was worth the wait. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and even the busy busboys were very pleasant. I ordered the arugula omelet, which was perfect, as were the truffled breakfast potatoes. The food all around was excellent, as was the coffee. It was also prompt, which was a relief given we waited for such a long time to be seated."

  • "Went to their NYE dinner with a special menu so this experience may be due to the holiday. It took about 45 min to get our 1st course, and an hour for our 2nd course (the scallops/pasta dishes were very tasty though). While for NYE the timing should be more laid back, it seemed they forgot about us by not replacing removed silverware and serving us much slower than others. After the 2nd course we were told that they were out of the filet mignons we ordered, and gave us a substitute pork dish and a bad sirloin steak cut. The steak was meh, the pork decent. The tiramisu was warm and underwhelming. The manager did make the experience right by giving us a free round of drinks/half off 2/4 meals, but I was not impressed overall."

  • "Can't believe the restaurant has been there almost two years and I'm just discovering it. I think this is much better than the "other" Italian restaurant on the Hill, which is also good ... but pricey. Lavagna is even better and the prices are moderate. Both my friend and I looked over the menu and had the same thought: The chef could serve us anything from the menu and we'd eat it. What we did order was delicious. Can't wait to go back ... soon ... and try additional dishes. HIGHLY recommend."
