The food was interesting and quite good. I had to have someone search out my server at one point as she didn't make a habit of checking in with us. The room is quite low key and plain. I have to admit that the cost was higher than I expected. This is not a place for someone who doesn't like seafood - one of our party couldn't even get a salad to start and he only had one a la carte choice for an entree.

Second time I went for 7 services diner witn wine accord, and second time I'm disapointed with the wine selection. This time, we were introduced to interesting wine tasting but out of the 6 wine tasted, 5 were white. As most people eating in this kind of restaurant prefer red, at least a good proportion of them, at least we should have been served 2 red. We also ha d some reserve for the creamy, cold cheese mousse served with what look like square jellyish vegies. And the accompanying white was as well questionnable. I might again gor for gastronomic 7 services diner, but this time, I'll choose my own wine. Don't get me wrong, this is a great restaurant for excellent fine dining, but I habe reserve for the wine accord.

Le Laurie Raphael once was one of the best tables in the province of Quebec. It no longer is. The quality of the service was fair, at best. The waiters would have been perfect for a bistro, a type of restaurant which has nothing to do with the place. If your menu belongs to a five star restaurant, you are not supposed to hear bad comments about quite a few items on it, from your waiter... If your cellar belongs to a five star restaurant, you are not supposed to get your white wine very warm... You are not supposed to see the nice bottle of red wine at the table near you sent into a bucket of chilled water with ice, in order to be able to even taste it... The food was good, although not very inventive. Best item: the dessert made with ce

What an absolute fabulous restaurant, everything and more than I expected! We went for lunch and ordered from the menu for one of us, for the other we got the chef's choice menu. The food was pricey, but worth even more than they charged. It was bliss! I never knew albacore tuna could taste so good. The chef knows how to create an experience and deliver on the taste. So many times the menu looks and sounds amazing but doesn't deliver on taste....not Laurie Raphael, they delivered and then some. I only wish we could have eaten there for another lunch or for dinner.

Unique and creative Gourmet Menu enhanced by the fact that it's a family business. Had a chance to chat with head chef Daniel briefly at the bar and he is clearly passionate about his work. The staff took great pride in serving diners and proved to have intricate knowledge of the dishes - which themselves were the reason to come in the first place. Eight courses of bliss at a not-outrageous 100$ bill pp. be prepared to be impressed, and budget at least 2.5 hours (a complete evening) for the tasting extravaganza!

do not opt for the chef's choice menu. it was a gamble to allow the chef to serve what inspires him/her to serve. we got cold duck confit appetizer (probably left overs from the previous dinner menu), tiny slivers of halibut for main course and an even tinier pound cake for dessert. i will know better next time!

The food was excellent, outstanding, even. The service was lacking. There were people who arrived more than 30 minutes after us who received their main plates before we did (they were in and out of the restaurant more than an hour before we were). Despite asking for our check several times, it took more than 30 minutes for it to finally be handed over.

We were in Quebec City for our 30th anniversary and were in a celebratory mood. Laurie Raphael was definitely a great experience--the food was beautiful and delicious, and the wait staff attentive and full of information. The wine list is extensive, and The waiter made some excellent recommendations. I would have liked to try the chef's special menu, but I do not eat meat, so that was not an option, as diners must be prepared to take what comes out of the kitchen. But the regular menu has some lovely fish options (vegetarians might be out of luck). The restaurant is expensive, so be prepared. The only down side for us was the slight pretentiousness of the atmosphere and wait staff--and the undistinguished background music. Feat overall!

We decided to go to this restaurant based on it's Open Table reviews. My husband chose the "Chef's" special which is unknown by even the wait staff until it's ready to be delivered to the table. I wasn't as adventurous as my husband and just selected from the menu. The food was expertly prepared and presented, the sommelier was helpful in choosing a bottle of wine that would work with both of our choices and the service was impeccable. The setting was formal and the restaurant was busy. Our reservation was for 6pm as we waited too late to make it. We weren't rushed to finish our meal in time for the next seating. Dinner for 2 with one bottle of wine and tip came to $275.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

Not our first time here, but probably our last. Duck was nice, but monkfish was tough and dry, and served with mussels that were out of the shell (nice touch) but not properly cleaned. I've eaten hundreds and hundreds of mussels at restaurants in several countries, and have only ever been served TWO with the beards (inedible fibrous strands) still attached -- and BOTH were on my plate at Laurie-Raphael. When I complained, the maitre d' told me that the chef was "very, very sorry" -- but apparently not sorry enough to adjust the bill at all. If the kitchen didn't want to adjust the bill, then front-of-house should have. The ambiance is lovely, but the food was disappointing.

Although easily the most expensive dinner of my life, my husband and I had a blast at the New Year's Eve dinner. The food and service was, of course, excellent. What made this over the top was the ambience - perfect for a New Year's Eve with everyone dressed nicely and singing along to the wonderful music. The meal was perfectly paced and we had fun - not stuffy and uncomfortable which is what happens sometimes. Enjoy!

We chose this as the place to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We are very into food and concerned about sustainable local sourcing. The chef's commitment to this helped inform our decision. Elegant ultra-modern artistic atmosphere, excellent service from the wait staff who worked as a team led by the waiter/sommelier who was so knowledgeable and personable. Food was creative with some wonderful taste combinations. Sweetbreads and foiegras with hazelnuts were particularly special as were the incredible desserts.

The food was very good, and the service was great at first. As the meal wore on, service became slower, a problem I encountered at several other "high end" restaurants in Quebec City. Atl the end of the meal, I tried to use an OpenTable check to pay for part of the bill, but the manager refused to accept it. This is contrary to my expectation as an OpenTable VIP member, and a problem I never encountered previously.

We have dined in some of New York, Boston and Montreal's very bat restaurants and Laurie Raphael is equal if not better than the best meals we have had anywhere. Be brave and try the chef-chef menu. At$50, it is a relative bargain and you will be surprised and pleased, as long as you are willing to trust the chef!
