  • Fairmont San Francisco High Tea

    Dined on 11/16/2014
My mom, friend and I enjoyed high tea here. The food is excellent and filling. We received 5 different types of sandwiches (egg salad, salmon, crab, cucumber and ham), 2 scones (one savory and one sweet), and 5 different desserts. We each picked a different tea. I can't remember the name of the tea I had (had cherry); it was a green tea and very fragrant. My friend had the decaffeinated Willow Spring Spa blend; very smooth and and I ended up buying a box to take home. My mom had the Fairmont blend which is an Earl Grey type tea; unfortunately, not her favorite kind of tea so she shared ours ;) The room was a little dark, but beautiful. The service was excellent.

My friends and I took a break from SF shopping and did afternoon tea at the Fairmont Laurel Court. The court was starting the Christmas Holiday with a gingerbread entrance like no other I have seen. Will have to come back to see it complete. Afternoon tea was filling, relaxing and service was great, not too much and always making us laugh. There was a lot of food, the sandwiches, scones, oh that lemon curd was delicious and the pastries, yay I got my macaron! We really needed that break before the long trip back home. Thank you Fairmont for the shopping break.

  • Gracious, quiet setting for above-average cuisine

This is not a "hot spot," but a gracious setting for a good meal, well-served. The Fairmont overall is "old San Francisco" at its finest,. and the Laurel Court is appropriate to that context. However, its cuisine is not stuck in the past, but current and interesting. Staff are attentive without being overbearing. I was particularly grateful for the low noise level. Live piano music in the background was not intrusive, but added a pleasant background. A favorite place to take out-of-town guests

My young daughter loved her High Tea experience. We had a nice time enjoying dressing up a little for the occasion. The staff needs better training to elevate the refinement of the experience: an attentive greeting by the maitre d and maybe a simple orientation for first-timers would help. Our waiter left us waiting a little too long, but recovered well for the rest of service. The Fairmont could make High Tea a more complete end-to-end experience. For example, signage to advertise the tea in the lobby entrance to Laurel Court.

This place is located in the Fairmont Hotel and as a frequent traveler, Fairmonts can be hit or miss. Service at many of them are challenging and this one was no exception. Crowded, busy, unhelpful, and understaffed valet parking. At the restaurant, rushed service, repeated requests, miscommunication, disappeared for long periods of time. Food? It was afternoon tea and the sandwiches were fine along with the sweet items. And I do like their branded tea - it's good. Service is just nonexistent or consistently bad. I couldn't find anyone to stamp the parking ticket. Had to go to the front desk and then valet parking guy was skeptical. It's just a nightmare getting in and out of the Fairmont. Service just drags down the overall experience.

My daughter's friends held a wedding shower for her here two years ago and we returned this past Saturday for tea again. It is relaxing, elegant and sumptuous. The teas feature Fairmont blends that are unique and delicious. The sandwiches are nothing special but the scones are amazing and the desserts are great, too. All in all, it is just a lovely spot and a terrific place for tea.

Pretty weak, even for a buffet. The food was fresh and cooked well, but options were few and simple. The desserts were more plentiful and well made, but suffered from sitting out on a buffet table. Service was as expected, including having to ask repeatedly to have my water glass refilled. The best part of this experience was the people watching since the seating is adjacent to the Fairmont's lobby. Basically I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone since there are so many superior options in the city.

Did we get Open Table points? Please let me know. Our reservation was for 1:30. We did not get seated until almost two and no service until almost 2:30./ Unacceptable I was under so much stress because I was treating five ladies and wanted it to be perfect! I had to go over a ask several times what was the matter. They said they were running behind. The tea was nice and the food was good. But for $250 I deserved much better service. I wanted it to be so so special!

For me, afternoon tea is about creating a delightful experience around the history of its origination. I arrived 15 minutes early and was strictly told tea would not begin until 1:30. My server simply asked what the I wanted without asking if I wanted to know more about their selections. He then brought the three tier and did not take the time to describe each savory. What makes afternoon tea a delight is being served by someone who is equally as excited to present their offerings as the customer is to enjoy it.

From the moment we arrived, the staff of the Fairmont took care of us. Our Maitre d', Daniel, greeted us warmly and seated us right away. The food was excellent, the wines well chosen and the service was stellar. Every aspect of our meal was driven by OUR pace. Each course arrived timed with the completion of the course just before with enough time between courses to enjoy our wine, the conversation and the music. Nothing was rushed. The results of a very skilled and equally pleasant waitress, Haley. We spent over two hours enjoying the opulent setting, reminiscing about The City, as the pianist played another song from a favorite musical. Thank you Laurel Court and Fairmont Staffs. You are the epitome of graciousness.

Purchased a travel zoo vouchetr and decided to to take my wife out here for her b-day dinner, and was pleasantly surprised! The food was very good, ambiance equally good and mood/vibe very relaxing. we had the cioppino and enjoyed it immensely, manila clams were very good as an appetizer, and the house wine wasn't bad either. The pricing was a bit 'different' as we had the voucher, but i can say that the evening was great. Love the Fairmont Hotel as well, would definitely go back!

Expected a 5 star experience at an elegant restaurant. Instead fellow diners were in Tshirts, shorts, tennis shoes the room was noisy and the decor garish. Service was just ok and the food decent What really irritated me was the mandatory $25 tip on the full value of the dinner. The total experience was not worth the discounted price of $79 much less the inflated $158 price that the tip was based on.

The Laurel Court Maitre D' dismissed us rudely before six o'clock and then kept us waiting, STANDING, while he talked on the phone until ten minutes past our reservation time at six o'clock. Poor start! The piano music was perfect; the ambiance gorgeous. The waiter served our courses well, however, we had some sixty dollars worth of additional charges billed to our check at the end of dinner. Our friends had a couple of tonic waters with lime, but those were the only additional drinks ordered. Between the tip, and those charges, we paid almost the amount we paid for the groupon in the first place. BEWARE! It was my husband's birthday and we didn't want to embarrass anyone so we accepted the charges.

The staff here are all superb - every single one. Which makes it sad that they're only serving so-so food for the Travelzoo coupon menu. There were a few elements of the food served which were quite tasty, but some was just not very good, and unfortunately that included my beef entrée. Love the setting, LOVE the staff. Have had afternoon tea here before, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I'll likely give it one more try some day, but can't entirely recommend it to friends traveling. If I were sponsoring a coupon special, I'd make sure the food was stellar, in order to get people back. I hope we were just there on an off day. The wonderful staff deserve more!

The first clue was when we stood at the entrance and NO ONE greeted us. The Maitre d' did not show up until 40 minutes AFTER our arrival. We had to flag down one of (only) two service people on the floor to check us in, search for menus, and then seat us. The spicy clams starter was delicious, as were the Caesar salad and French Onion soup. It took forever for our entrees to arrive - over 1/2 hour. My steak had NO flavor. Throughout the meal, NO ONE asked us if everything was OK. Certainly NOT the Maitre d', who did not speak with ANY guest in the entire dining room. I had to practically break into the kitchen to refuse the steak. To top everything off, the lobby men's room was a messy disaster, which I reported to the front desk.

This was probably one of the best British style high tea I have ever had. Coming from Hong Kong, the former British colony, I was spoiled by high tea served at various 5-star and 6-star hotels. I must say that high tea served at Laurel Court is comparable with these upper class hotels, if not, even better because of the price. The food was simply delicious, and excellent services. Our servers were quick to meet our needs, also telling us that the hotel makes a beautiful gingerbread house around Christmas, urging us to return with children. I will definitely return with my family.

There is a saying in life, that you get what you pay for. This is a classic example. Not the cheapest night out, but you could not fault the food in any way- every bite of every course was prepared and cooked to perfection. Mostly, it was the amount of flavour in every bite that sold me..... delicious :-) I think this has to be in my Top 5 meals ever for flavour. If I had a complaint, it would be portion size on the accomplements - 5 mini potatoes the size of marbles didn't really hit the spot- I do have a large appetite though. The restaurant was huge, so intimacy/ambiance fell a little short... but the live pianist was excellent and made this back to a 4 star rating for this review category.

We celebrated a special occasion by inviting our 15 year old granddaughter from Portland to Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont. Each person who was involved in helping make it happen was extremely helpful. We were given great instructions for arriving in San Francisco and the connections from the Ferry Building to the Fairmont. Our reservation process went smoothly and we were treated like Royalty once we arrived. The Tea was a wonderful experience. The food was tasty and well presented, and the service was over-the-top. All the details were perfect and it is all those little pieces that worked together to make this a most memorable experience for this child. No room for improvement.
