The Laurel Court Maitre D' dismissed us rudely before six o'clock and then kept us waiting, STANDING, while he talked on the phone until ten minutes past our reservation time at six o'clock. Poor start! The piano music was perfect; the ambiance gorgeous. The waiter served our courses well, however, we had some sixty dollars worth of additional charges billed to our check at the end of dinner. Our friends had a couple of tonic waters with lime, but those were the only additional drinks ordered. Between the tip, and those charges, we paid almost the amount we paid for the groupon in the first place. BEWARE! It was my husband's birthday and we didn't want to embarrass anyone so we accepted the charges.

The staff here are all superb - every single one. Which makes it sad that they're only serving so-so food for the Travelzoo coupon menu. There were a few elements of the food served which were quite tasty, but some was just not very good, and unfortunately that included my beef entrée. Love the setting, LOVE the staff. Have had afternoon tea here before, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I'll likely give it one more try some day, but can't entirely recommend it to friends traveling. If I were sponsoring a coupon special, I'd make sure the food was stellar, in order to get people back. I hope we were just there on an off day. The wonderful staff deserve more!

  • When there's no Maitre D' Hotel

    Dined on 8/19/2014
The first clue was when we stood at the entrance and NO ONE greeted us. The Maitre d' did not show up until 40 minutes AFTER our arrival. We had to flag down one of (only) two service people on the floor to check us in, search for menus, and then seat us. The spicy clams starter was delicious, as were the Caesar salad and French Onion soup. It took forever for our entrees to arrive - over 1/2 hour. My steak had NO flavor. Throughout the meal, NO ONE asked us if everything was OK. Certainly NOT the Maitre d', who did not speak with ANY guest in the entire dining room. I had to practically break into the kitchen to refuse the steak. To top everything off, the lobby men's room was a messy disaster, which I reported to the front desk.

The menu was not the one specified in the promo, food was not that great, it was not served in a classy style, the bread service sucks, the restaurant needs upgrading if they are going to charged us exorbitantly. We loved the ambiance outside the restaurant though but other than that, it's really not worth it.

There is a saying in life, that you get what you pay for. This is a classic example. Not the cheapest night out, but you could not fault the food in any way- every bite of every course was prepared and cooked to perfection. Mostly, it was the amount of flavour in every bite that sold me..... delicious :-) I think this has to be in my Top 5 meals ever for flavour. If I had a complaint, it would be portion size on the accomplements - 5 mini potatoes the size of marbles didn't really hit the spot- I do have a large appetite though. The restaurant was huge, so intimacy/ambiance fell a little short... but the live pianist was excellent and made this back to a 4 star rating for this review category.

The Laurel Court is a classic! The beautiful dining room is a real treat, including the fact that you can actually hear your dining partner. While this is a classy restaurant, the servers are not arrogant. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Those of us who live here in the City should take better advantage of beautiful San Francisco treasures like this.

food was good, waiter was courteous, but we had to wait 45 minutes. when we finally asked what was taking so long, they said they had overcooked the meat and had to re-do the order. they were kind enough to offer us complimentary dessert to compensate for the delay, but it would have been nice if we had been given an explanation for the wait before we had to ask. they offer 2 hours complimentary parking, but we were there longer than that.

We celebrated a special occasion by inviting our 15 year old granddaughter from Portland to Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont. Each person who was involved in helping make it happen was extremely helpful. We were given great instructions for arriving in San Francisco and the connections from the Ferry Building to the Fairmont. Our reservation process went smoothly and we were treated like Royalty once we arrived. The Tea was a wonderful experience. The food was tasty and well presented, and the service was over-the-top. All the details were perfect and it is all those little pieces that worked together to make this a most memorable experience for this child. No room for improvement.

Called and left a message on August 3 around 11:00 a.m for August 5, 7:00 p.m. dinner reservation. The voucher indicated that reservation must be made 72 hours in advance. When received no confirmation. I called again the next day and left a message again before I got a response. The food was just o.k. Service was fine. I guess we deserved that kind of good service when a $32.00 gratuity (included tax) was automatically added to our bill of $69.00 - voucher price for two.

The food was awful. I was so disappointed because the ambiance was nice there were a lot of people there and we were staying at the hotel. So we felt it was a must try. I orders the NY Strip and hubby ordered the ribeye. My steak was not cooked to the temperature I requested at all and hubby's steak looked like it was cooked on one side only. It just had this pale sad look. The sides oh boy that left even more to be desired. We sent our entire meal back to the kitchen and settled for appetizers. Let me begin this section by saying our server was great, but everyone else?!? Do you think anyone came to apologize for the whole meal being unsatisfactory, nope not at all. Not the manager the chef no one. I would never dine there again.

Through Travel Zoo, we obtained a special value meal at Laurel Court Restaurant at the Fairmont. Not only were we pleased with the savings, but our meal and service were exceptional. The atmosphere of the restaurant is intimate and warm. The decor is charming. Since we were needing to make our reservations during off business hours for the restaurant, we decided to use opentable.com. What an easy and convenient way to access our reservations. We will return to all three...Travelzoo, Laurel Court and Open Table.

It's the Fairmont! This place should be unbelievable. It was a Friday evening and we were the only ones in the restaurant area for the majority of the night. The service was good, although it was really just that the guy was nice. The place was way overpriced. The food was delicious but it was washed out by our long (and unnecessary) wait between courses. I always consider VALUE - so considering what we paid for overall experience it was not worth it. Totally left with a bummed out feeling. Won't refer / won't return.

  • No "Laurels" for Laurel Court

My experience at Laurel Court was very disappointing. First of all the service was slow. We ordered fried calamari for an appetizer. It was chewy, and doughy in parts. I ordered fish tacos--it was all right, but I've tasted better. The tacos was too spicy for me due to the diced jalapeno peppers. My husband ordered the soup and salad combo. The onion soup was just OK. The caesar salad was wilted and not great. We shared a creme brulle for dessert which was most unpalatable. It was a free-formed "blob" which looked like a small tower of cookie dough. I've never seen anything like it! The brulee was cold, and was hard with the consistancy of ice cream. All in all, it was a very mediocre experience.

We don't dine in the city very much, but decided to give it a try and bought the Travel Zoo coupon for four for dinner at the Laurel Court Restaurant at the Fairmont and were very pleasantly surprised by the food, service and general ambience of the restaurant. There was live piano music at a subtle distance so that it didn't interfere with conversation, but was a lovely background element. The menu was somewhat limited, but we were offered two newly added choices. We all agreed that the food was very good. The wine was also unexpectedly good and a decent pour too. The experience has inspired us to try it again.

We were no aware this is a price fix menu until we arrive and the host just hand us the only price fix menu. The menu is limited. Later we download the regular menu and found when we add up the price of each item on the menu, it approx. cost the same. No price break. They just jack up the price. That's the reason they do not give us the regular menu so we cannot compare.

For the price tag and the fact that it's located inside the beautiful Fairmont hotel, I was expecting better. I was expecting pampering and impeccable service and it just wasn't the case. The food was meh. Again, expecting the quality to match the price....and it just didn't. The bruschetta was boring, not dressed well. The crabcakes were good but nothing special. I had the burger which was decent. I already forgot what my date had because it was so blah. All just subpar from what I expected.

I have brunch here before and had a great experience but this time around we all were disappointed with the brunch buffet. We arrived at 10:45am and the entire hot dishes were empty and customers were in line for a very long time until the food arrived (eggs benedict were cold)not up to the reputation of a Fairmont Hotel and especially for the price. When we approached the service staff they acknowledge with reservations and not efficiency.

The Travelzoo selection of food and wine was very good. The food was good. We had the clam appetizer which was very good and the onions soup and ceasar salad were also very good. Steak rare with sunny side up eggs was my order. Steak well done with overcooked eggs is what I got when it finally came. Fresh orange juice tasted watered down. My wife's meal was just as bad and the confusing tab, which also had 18% tip prewritten, needed correction, which also took a while. I don't expect bargains on Nob Hill but this was a rip off and very disappointing for a Fairmont Hotel.
