Chez Francois has been around for half a century, still run by the same family and still the best restaurant in the entire DC area. Impeccable service, superb food. Everything cooked to perfection. Good variety on the menu. Pricey but you will see why it's worth every penny. Perfect for special occasions: Anniversaries, birthdays, raduations, etc.

The place is charming and conversation is easy. The food is a throwback to the 1960's. The offerings change very little, and while nothing is bad, nothing is wonderful (except the garlic toast). Every dish arrives with the same vegetables. If ambiance and decent food is what's wanted, this place would fit the bill.

  • Roses and GF Menu at L'Auberge

My husband and I had lunch at L'Auberge for our 32nd wedding anniversary. We knew the ambiance, setting, etc., would be great, but the plus for me was that items are now marked gluten-free. L'Auberge staff ensured our meal and service fit this special occasion. In addition, my husband arranged for 32 roses be sent to L'Auberge so that they would be waiting for my arrival (I was coming straight from work). Flowers arrived on time and were show cased at our table--other patrons were impressed by this and I felt very special! The staff was very attentive and even arranged for us to have our meal inside then dessert and coffee outside in the beautiful garden. Our server then took some pictures for us! We hope to return soon.

L'Auberge Chez Francois never fails to please. We save this restaurant for special occasions and it has been consistently excellent. Their menu has remained pretty much the same so we know what to expect. They present a "fixed price" type of menu where diners select an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert for a set price (depending on the entree selected). We usually choose the Chateaubriand, which is prepared just as we request and comes with an assortment of wonderful vegetables. Service was attentive and friendly. The setting is very romantic and beautiful. We will return in the future and recommend it to others. It is a high class restaurant that is down to earth and we actually prefer it over The Inn at Little Washington.

We have never been disappointed at L'Auberge Chez Francois, and we've been going there since 1976. The food is always excellent with service to match. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion, but go whether you have a special occaison or not. No question, you'll be glad you did. Although on the expensive side, L'Auberge is a great value when you consider what you get for your money.

On a beautiful late summer Saturday, I took my best friend to L'Augerge Chez Francois for a birthday lunch. Everything about the experience, from the greeting by Chef and owner Jacque Herringer, to the quiet atmosphere, the varied menu, the courteous and helpful wait staff and the amazing food, made our day just perfect. We were not rushed and enjoyed a delicious complimentary birthday dessert. It was a lovely, relaxing and unique experience. Can't wait to return.

Delicious as usual. Price level is special occasion pricing, but it is worth it. Add-ons such as individual soufflés, foie gras, and great wines add to the price, but the service and food is top notch. The manager presented a Chateaubriand table side.

Chez Francois always exceeds our highest expectations. The most beautiful restaurant in Northern Virginia, the ambiance, the extraordinary menus, fine wines, and outstanding service always delight. We were six, among us guests from France, and were there for a very special celebration. As always, the evening was truly memorable. I have been dining at Chez Francois since it was located in Washington on Connecticut Avenue, and each dining experience exceeds the last. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

If you want a very romantic, very special, classic French restaurant, this is the place. The atmosphere and the classic French dishes are superb! You will not be disappointed. I especially recommend anything from their native Alsace region of France. Know that their dishes are really 4-course meals; the prices include appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. You will not leave here hungry, and probably with a doggy bag. The caveat: If you are looking for nouveau anything, this is not the place. I hadn't been here for 10+ years, and most of the dishes were immediately recognizable. If you are in the young 20's and looking for a hopping place, this is not it. The diners were generally mature (but not ancient! :-))

We've been going to L'Auberge at intervals for over 30 years and it still remains our place for special occasions. The food is still excellent and its Virginia countryside location evokes the Alsatian inn ambiance. Their made-to-order soufflés are the perfect end for a great evening.

I spent a fabulous evening at this restaurant with my family to celebrate my birthday. I have been the L'Auberge Chez Francois before, but this time, the food surpassed all of my expectations, and those of my family. Everyone's meal was outstanding. Moreover, the wine was excellent and very reasonably priced. Although it is listed as in the higher price range, we found the meal reasonable, especially for the quality of the food and experience. For the quality of the food, the ambiance, and service, this place cannot be beat!

Every September we celebrate a friend's birthday by dining on a Sunday late afternoon/early evening in the garden at L'Auberge Chez Francois. Ambiance is fantastic. Quiet, lovely setting, plenty of room between tables. Our server, Mark, was delightful. The food, as always, delicious. I had a soft shelled crab appetizer, shared the chateaubriand, and a blueberry special dessert. A tasty dinner and memorable evening. Same time next year!

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at L'Auberge Chez Francois. We were looking for some place really special rather than our usual special event celebration restaurants. We sure found it. Everything about this restaurant is first class. From the moment you walk in the door you know it is something special. We shared the Chateaubriand for two and was the best meal we ever had. We have been to many restaurants across the U.S. and Europe. By far L'Auberge Chez Francois is the best dining experience we ever had. Unfortunately the evening we were there it was raining and we did not get the opportunity to appreciate the outdoor settings. Hopefully next time. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Just like we remembered from 25-30 years ago when we lived in the area. Course by course the food quality and preparation were wonderful. The staff are very efficient, but stiffer and less friendly than when Francois was alive. We've changed and as we get older we prefer smaller meals. The format is an inclusive format for a large serving, four plus course meal. We would appreciate even a modified a la carte option, as we found ourselves "stuffed", a feeling which detracted from how we felt about the meal after finishing - nonetheless a truly wonderful meal, but we may not return because of the menu format.

We have been going to Chez Francois for years, I grew up in Great Falls. The food was horrible, wrong items were brought out, and items were left off. We waited for 10 minutes for a salad entrée to be brought out, and the food had already been sitting under heat lamps. I don't know if your head chef was off or what? We ordered two espressos, one came out, and the second one came out after 10 more minutes. We ordered two salads, one came out. The special was not explained well, we ordered the fish thinking it was grilled, it came out in a pastry? the special truffles at the end, mine had a piece of plastic or fingernail in it. The best part of the meal was the wine, and your amazing wine list. Well priced and great choices.
