L'Auberge Chez FrancoisAnniversaryWe can to celebrate our 20th anniversary --and had a wonderful evening . The service was attentive and the food was delicious.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIt passed our expectations! It passed our expectations! From A to Z, it was outstanding.
Ged6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFine dining at it's bestGreat secluded location, ambiance is fabulous, impeccable service & food! My husband & I loved the toast/cheese bread combo, onion soup & our entrees (duck & angus beef). Have to mention that the palette cleanser, grapefruit sorbet, was exquisite. We were served a complimentary"anniversary surprise dessert w/candle too, how sweet! Our wonderful waiter graciously took our picture for us out on the patio too!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCouldn't ask for anything more.Celebrated our wedding anniversary with our teenage children. The service really was impeccable and friendly, not stuffy or arrogant as I feared. There are not enough words to complement the food, everything we had was simply delicious. It was so much fun sharing samples off each others plates. We never felt rushed or forgotten. In short, it was a magical experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treatWe go to l'Auberge when we have something to celebrate and it never disappoints. It is one of our favorite restaurants in the DC metro area.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite Restaraunt in DC Area!L'Auberge Chez Francois is a superior restaraunt! The food, service & ambiance are all equally outstanding. My family has eaten at Chez Francois several times in the past two years and have never been disappointed. From the Beef Wellington, to the Dover Sole, to the Duck, to the Roast Goose all were excellent and we can't wait to visit again to try something else from their excellent menu. Chez Francois is a price fixed menu that includes an appetizer, salad, main course, desert and coffee; it is pricey on the surface, but you would pay nearly as much for the same number of courses at a lesser restaraunt and experience a mere fraction of the dining experience. First among fine dining establishments in the DC area.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasureGood food, comfortable environment, attentive service, never rushed.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMgood as alwayswe have been going here for more than 30 years and they never disappoint.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!Even better for lunch that for dinner. Prices are lower, it is less crowded (during the week), and very quiet. Food and service was fabulous. Lunch is ala carte or full meal with a glass of wine for $40. We did the latter with no difference in available entrees. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole meal. Have a late lunch and you won't want any dinner later.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Great! We have lived near Chez Francois for over 20 years and dined there many times. We had not been in a couple of years and decided to go for our Anniversary. The service and the food were excellent as expected. For a special occasion you cannot beat Chez and I highly recommend it!!! If you have lived in this area and have not been there - you need to go.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter many years- still theAfter many years- still the best restaurant in the DC area. Always a wonderful experience.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMStill DeliversFor many years I dined at CF at least 3-4 times a year. A few years back I moved away and hadn't been back for some time. Was there this past week with a group of 6 and I must say Jacques still delivers the goods. In this day of small plates, fast dining and part-time waiters, what a joy to have a classic French meal served up by an outstanding staff. I had forgotten what it was like to dine like this. The sole and soft shell crabs were as good as ever and the newer lobster dish w/ citrus was amazing. My favorite dessert is still the plum tart. Thanks Jacques and team!! Ken d.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding as alwaysOver 30 years of dining at this restaurant has never disappointed. Food is phenomenal The waitstaff impeccable The ambience perfect6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMCharmingThis was a repeat visit to an old favorite that always gives great service and atmosphere. The food was excellent, and the wine list was diverse with many interesting offerings. I look forward to our next dinner at LAuberge Chez Francois.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMA meal without wineUnfortunately I am on a medication that precludes alcohol but even so, the meal was outstanding. The Chateaubriand was very tender, done to perfection and served with flair. The appetizer and dessert (Plum pastry) were excellent. I have eaten here often, beginning when they were in Georgetown many years ago, and a number of times since they moved to Great Falls, without ever feeling that I didn't get value for my money.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently the BestMy family has been coming to this restaurant for decades, from when it moved from its prior DC location.
We go there several times each year to celebrate various occasions, and I must say, that though ive tried most every restaurant in the DC area and many more all over the country and world, I frequently end up spending much more for much less. I will always return to Chez Francois, so long as they continue their decades-long trajectory. The service is impeccable, the food is delightful, and every experience always guarantees to please beyond even my expectations.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMA dining experience like no otherDelicious food and excellent service in a beautiful setting make this restaurant a perfect place to celebrate any occasion. Our server, Mark, was appropriately friendly yet professional. The meal started with an "amuse bouche," a small cup of intensely flavored mushroom soup. Then, lobster bisque and Caesar salad, followed by a taste of sherbet before our entrees, of liver and onions and rainbow trout from the Shenandoah Valley. Before dessert, Mark asked if we were celebrating anything special. It was my birthday, and he brought a special meringue and ice cream dish with a candle. My husband had a dark chocolate torte for dessert, but I took my cheesecake with raspberry coulis home to enjoy the next day. Vive L'auberge!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday lunch - one of my favoritesGreat service, great food on Sunday lunch. Great starters, salad, amuse bouche, entree, desert. Loved it.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDoes Not DisappointFriends for 50 years, one now living in Scotland, met at Chez Francois, as we have many times over the years, to celebrate an occasion. We were not disappointed. Elegant but comfortable ambience and superior service. The food is always excellent.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Outdoor Sunday LunchWe went as a group of 4 for a birthday lunch. Sat outside in the garden in one of the gazebos which was beautiful. The food was very tasty, a lot of options to choose from in the multi-course lunch. Service was great. They bring out little surprises. They brought out a free dessert, I had included that it was a birthday lunch in the open table reservation. We spent $240 total including a 20% tip. I would definitely go back again for another special occasion.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMSPECIAL OCCASION GUARANTEEWe went to L'Auberge Chez Francois to celebrate my wife's birthday - This was a special occasion in every way - The setting, food, and service was outstnding - We felt that L'Auberge helped us make this a special occasion and a very memorable experience -6/1/2013 12:00:00 AML'Auberge Chez FrancoisI hadn't been to the Auberge in probably 9 years. The restaurant is charming and quaint. The service is amazing, the food is very good, but maybe not stellar. The Dover sole was good, but a tad bland, the lamb chops were excellent, and the filet with beranaise was very good. The appetizers were all amazing, I didn't love my dessert and should have ordered the souffle which was incredible. I dine out frequently throughout DC /Annapolis/Eastern Shore and this retaurant ranks as a very expensive restaurant @ $130.00 per person (drinks, tax and tip included). We all enjoyed our dinners but were in agreement that, there are much better restaurants for less. If I do return, it would be for the Sunday luncheon which seems to be a better value.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMalways outstandingA great place to celebrate a special occasion. Expensive but worth it.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time here was forOur first time here was for our 11th wedding anniversary. It was wonderful! Loved the setting, the service, and the food. We'll be back to enjoy the outdoor seating at another time!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing as AlwaysMy brother and I had taken my Mom to Chez Francois for her birthday dinner last year and we had such a fantastic meal that she decided it should become a tradition. This year I took her there for birthday lunch intending to sit on the patio but it was in the 90's that day so we ate inside. It was a beautiful room overlooking the gardens. Our server was SO GOOD he made the meal that much better. I think it's impossible to have a bad time or a bad meal at Chez Francois. In our 20 + years of going there it's never happened.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Night of my LifeHonestly the best food I have ever had in my life, the service was exponential. It was very pricey, but it was worth every penny. I would go back in a heart beat.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been going to L'AubergeWe have been going to L'Auberge Chez Francois for over 30 years and are never disappointed, it is the best!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good with some inconsistenciesWe have always liked the ambience of the L'Auberge and as usual In general we both found the service and food excellent, including tenderloin of lamb, lobster salad, and a chocolate soufflé--with a couple of exceptions. One of the exceptions was the green salad which was over salted. The other, more egregious exception was the Baked Alaska ( a favorite desert of mine from my youth when it was my birthday cake). It might as well have been from a supermarket freezer: ice cream frozen into rock on a thin (1/4 inch thick) bit of cake (rather than being luscious ice cream surrounded by cake) and then it was served without being flambéed and without any fruit on the meringue plus there was an additional charge for this desert.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLong TimeI, first in D.C.; now, we, in D.C. and, now, Virginia have enjoyed every visit to Francois'.
There is nowhere comparable for it all.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways exceptionalL'Auberge Chez Francois is an excellent restaurant. The food and service are top notch. Great place to celebrate birthdays (quietly), anniversaries , and other special events.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMMakes a special occasion specialThis is a lovely place for a special occasion. (A birthday in this case) The set meal can last 3 leisurely hours if you wish, the food is excellent, the service outstanding yet unobtrusive, the ambiance very calm, quiet and relaxed. The wine list has some gems yet there are bottles to suit most price ranges and their wider than normal range of half bottles allows you to select wines for each course if you wish. They discreetly ask if it is a special occasion and the restaurant plans a treat accordingly, in our case a birthday meringue.
We loved it.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMMy big dateBest French dinning experience I've had since visiting Paris! Great menu, delicious food, ample portions, attentive service, very nice decor. If you want to have a very special evening, then choose Chez Francois.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely the finest restaurantAbsolutely the finest restaurant we have eaten in the DC/NoVa area. We have dined in the top 15 of the Post's best restaurants - to include the Inn at Little Washington and none compare to L'Auberge for service, quality of food and ambieance. A sure delight ---- we will be back again and again.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, as always! At first glance, the menu seems pricey. When dinner is finished, the prices seem appropriate to the experience. There was/is a marvelous French restaurant in Rancho Santa Fe, CA named Mille Fleur. This is an absolutely parallel, if not superior, restaurant. The food was perfect, perfectly timed, perfectly executed. My friends had fish, I had steak. Dessert was Baked Alaska. Where can you experience a perfect Baked Alaska? At L'Auberge Chez Francois. This is a high-quality, flawless, refined experience. Perfect for special occasions and those with the occasional big wallet. The service is impeccable, neither intrusive nor superfluous.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had joined friends forWe had joined friends for an afternoon of Showboat at The Kennedy Center and Chez Francois for dinner. The wine was fantastic the service was attentive-the food was absolutely delicious.......a perfect day.....Merci, Chez Francois.
We plan to return for the Father's Day luncheon...yum.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSince retirement, we haveSince retirement, we have gone several times a year with friends for the special lunch menu. It is an excellent value and the food is fantastic. It is a leisurely lunch which gives us time to visit with friends as well as share a great meal.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful CharacterWonderful dining experience that was flawlessly executed. The food was superb and the personal touches added to our overall enjoyment. My wife purchased their cookbook.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMYet One More Memorable NightCame after Wolf Trap so the late seating. Nevertheless, everything was flawless. Hate sauerkraut but was moved by the chilly night to try the Alsatian choucroute garni -- a revelation! Entrecote was perfectly cooked but slightly boring -- supposed shallot/mustard sauce did not add much zing. Nice to see a good number of wines offered in half-bottles. For once, did not order souffles but "made do" with lovely fresh strawberry tarts. Service was perfect as always. Hope this place never goes away becasue there is nothing like it.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxingIn 2 recent visits, lunch has been outstanding. A relaxing visit with friends, great food & service. Very enjoyable!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday dinnerWe were very happy with the food. THe protions were sufficient. The taste was delicious. The bouillabaise was one of the best I have tried. THe chateaubriand was perfectly cooked. The accompanying vegetables were tasty, so attention to detail highly commendable.
THe hazelnut souffle was a letdown. It was not very tasty and a touch undercooked.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways worth the driveGreat food, artistically presented, has been and still is centerpiece of this restaurant. It's a truly fun experience for special occasions.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for YearsChez Francois continues its outstanding performance. For years it has been the French restaurant to go to in Washington, it continues to be. The food was outstanding adn prepared to perfection (as it has been each time I visit). Special attention is given to making guests feel like everything has been done just for their visit. I can not recommend it enough -- for that special occasion or for the mid week romantic getaway.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExpensive but worth itChez Francois is not cheap, but it provides an epic culinary and service experience. The venue feel cozy, like a country manor. The service and food are top-notch. Expect to pay $100+/person. The prix-fixe entrees come with appetizer / salad / dessert / coffee and run between $60-$85 for the most part. Good selection of wine and it is actually priced reasonably; we found a good local Cab Franc for $30/bottle. You can also expect multiple complimentary chef's courses throughout your meal. If you want the souffle as your dessert, you need to order it in advance (i.e., at the start of your meal) because it takes 1+ hours to prepare. This is highly recommended, as the souffle was awesome.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently OutstandingMy wife and I have eaten here many times over the last 20 years--this restaurant has always been outstanding for both food and service. The Dover sole entree and plum tart dessert are two of our favorites, but everything we have eaten here has been consistently excellent. The atmosphere has always been relaxing and the service top notch.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA Real GemWe've been celebrating special occasions at L'Augberge Chez Francois for at least 30 years. It's a wonderful restaurant
that has maintained outstanding food, fine service, and a special atmosphere to enjoy your meal in. We5/21/2013 12:00:00 AML'Auberge is always fabulous.L'Auberge is always fabulous. The prix fix lunch menu is extensive and priced right--quality all the way.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I try new placesMy husband and I try new places from time to time, and go to other nice restaurants, but we always end up returning to L'Auberge. This place is wonderful. I can't say anything bad about it. Well, there is one, it is 90 minutes from my house, but that is probably good too, or I would be a lot heavier!
Congrats, L'Auberge, for being the best restaurant ever :)5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVenerable restaurant in GreatVenerable restaurant in Great Falls, Va. It's consistently good.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOld school but very goodI first went to L'Auberge Chez Francois in 1979 and haven't been back in several years. Yes, it's still pretty old school and many things seem like they haven't changed in decades but it's still very good. Our guests had never been there before and loved it. Don't expect modern cutting edge cuisine but just sit back and let yourself enjoy how fine dining used to be.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA memorable experience! My boyfriend and I dined at L'Auberge Chez Francois to celebrate our anniversary. The service was impeccable; the staff is ultra attentive and courteous. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. They gave us an experience we'll remember for a long time. Thank you!
