  • "L'Auberge chez francois is a first class venue for any special event. We celebrated an anniversary there and the three hours were memorable, food, service, ambience. . . the works."

  • "A great special ocasion place but very expensive. There is no kids menu so if you are taking kids (mine are 12) be prepared to pay the same as you would for an adult ($75-$85)"

  • "Good solid french menu but could use a little updating and raise the preparation level a notch. The Ambience was perfection. Please work on the food, don't want anything to happen to this gen of a restaurant."

  • "My husband and I love going to the Sunday lunch and spending a few relaxed hours enjoying the ambiance and amazing menu. The 5 courses are a great deal - all for the price of one regular entree - and we love trying new items on the menu that we haven't tried before. The staff and service here are top rate, we always feel welcomed and never rushed. The owner has been there both times we went recently and greeted us upon entering. We could see him and the chef out in the garden from the view at our table. We will be back soon!"

  • "We had a wonderful anniversary celebration in the outdoor eating area. Very nice!"

  • "We enjoyed a fabulous Saturday lunch! Service was impeccable. The outdoor space is beautiful. Our food included fresh produce from their amazing garden! Dessert was awesome. I ordered a soufflé for dessert that could have been cooked just a little longer. I would opt for the chocolate tart next time. We celebrated our anniversary and they brought a special something to celebrate. Oh and the cocktails were amazing!!"

  • "This is a true neighborhood gem. After dining here on a weekend night, I see why they are one of the top romantic French restaurants in the area/country. Service was excellent and the food matched. The bill for 2 came out to $222 pre-tip. We had 2 special appetizers, 2 salads, 2 entrees, 2 deserts and 1 drink. The ambiance of the place is the best I have experienced in the area. Definitely a great dining location for special occasions. I had the soft shelled crab, duck breast salad, poached lobster and vanilla crème brûlée. Everything was excellent. Will certainly return."

  • "I really like the outside seating area, with view of the proprietary vegetable garden, bright tables, umbrellas, water fountain and surrounding garden. It didnt hurt that the weather that day was stunning. I visited for the first time because I love French food. I am NOT very knowledgable about cuisine but the Lamb was very tough. It seemed to have a sinuous covering that was difficult to cut through. The pieces rolled like a sausage when slicing. I left a lot on the plate. To be fair, I suppose lamb is not for me. Everything else was very delicious. Bread with cottage cheese/sour cream, tort with roquefort cheese withcarmelized apples...wow! The vegetables were excellent. blueberry tart with ice cream"

  • "The weather was perfect to sit outside on the terrace for lunch. We took my childhood friend from out of town and the surroundings, food and staff made it a very special day! I highly recommend sitting on the patio on a nice day. We've been to L'Auberge many times and also the Brasserie downstairs, but this visit was the best by far. Everything was spot on!"

  • "We don't go very often but whenever we do we have an excellent time. The location, decor, service, food and wine are all just top notch. Pricey, yes, but worth it. Everyone there makes you feel at home and has a professional but friendly attitude. I love this place!"

  • "We have been dining at this restaurant for many years and it never is anything but exceptional. While it is a little pricey for everyday dining, it makes a superb location for special occasions. The food is always outstanding and the service is impeccable. I truly enjoy every visit."

  • "I've been eating in this restaurant for about 30 years. About 6 or 8 years ago the food had become mediocre and I stopped going there. On a whim I decided to try it again about 3 years ago. For what ever reason in that intervening time the food improved dramatically. I have since returned a half a dozen times and have not been disappointed. My one complaint is the wine list. I am an unrepentant Francophile when it comes to wine. With the exception of the Alsace and expensive Bordeaux sections the list really needs work."

  • "What a beautiful restaurant. Food and service is superb. There is a reason this Inn has been a favorite for more than forty years. An excellent choice for a special occasion or just when you feel like splurging."

  • "L'auberge Chez François is our choice for special occasion dining. We are always greeted warmly, and treated the same throughout the dining experience. The food is delicious, the service is impeccable, and though the prices are high, so is the quality."

  • "Living within a hour of this restaurant I am ashamed that I have only eaten here a handful of times in the forty years I have been here. It is at the opposite end of the county and that is the only reason. It is by far among the top three restaurants in my area for classical European with innovative twists and always perfecty prepared and fresh products. Bistro L'hertimaage is only ten minutes away from me so I tend to go there but l'auberge is always just plain perfect. Sweetbreads, softshell crab, phenomenal tuna steak...roquefort tart... toughest part is selecting from so many delectable choices. The bread pudding was to die for. Service like we were royalty."

  • "We came for lunch and both had the Lemon Sole which was fresh and perfectly cooked in brown butter just like they do Dover Sole. Can not get it any better! Had the aspargus and VA ham appetizer-really delicious and tasty We had cheesecake and chocolate tart(to die for!!). Everything was perfectly cooked and fresh-a truly excellent meal. And service as always was outstanding!!!"

  • "We celebrated my parent's 60th Anniversary at L'Auberge at the end of June and the entire evening was perfect from start to finish. Our server, Brandon, was wonderful and made the evening that much more special. Plus, the sommelier brought around complimentary flutes of champagne for a toast before dessert which was a much appreciated touch. The atmosphere is charming and slightly rustic, and the food is top notch. Dinner is prix fixe but a good value and the wine list has many good choices. I had the soft shell crab special and the justifiably famous plum tart with cinnamon ice cream for dessert, and both were delicious!"

  • "I haven't been to Chez Francois since 1986. It was great then. Last Thursday, I went with my wife in a party of six friends from college. None of the others had ever eaten at Chez Francois before. It was fantastic! The service was attentive to the point of being anticipatory without being invasive. I started with foie gras, followed by lobster bisque, steak au poivre (with Roquefort) and finished with the hazelnut soufflé. With the exception of the soufflés (the rest got chocolate), we did a decent job of spanning the menu. All were exquisite -- my wife raved about her trout. This is a truly great restaurant -- has it has been for decades."

  • "My brother and sister in law came to town to help and cheer me during extremely harsh chemotherapy. I wanted..needed... to express my gratitude to them by offering them a perfect treat. I chose lunch at L'Auberge Chez Francois because while I have always loved it for dinner, these days by dinner time I am usually terribly tired so dinner would not work for us. They loved and appreciated every element of our visit both in the ambience and the superb food. It was in fact the perfect choice and they say they will never forget it."

  • "My daughter and I had dinner at L' Auberge 2 weeks ago on a Saturday evening and it was a fantastic experience. We both enjoyed the decor and the atmosphere; we liked the lighting (small lamps mounted on tree branches), the silverware ( including the plates with L'Auberge Chez FRançois letterings), the artistic appearance of our dishes. Our Spanish waiter was really nice and knowledgeable. The French maitre d'hotel came to our table to introduce the restaurant and himself. We did not have to wait any time to be seated. The food was fantastic (in my opinion this restaurant would get two Michelin stars if it were in France), the wine selection was great. I will come back to L 'Auberge as soon as I can, I regret to live so far..."

  • "This was our second time dining here. The atmosphere is wonderful. You literally feel like you are in France. The service is also excellent! You are treated very special! It's why this is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. The food is exquisite, very upscale, as is everything else if the restaurant. Definitely a place for a romantic evening to celebrate a special occasion."

  • "We had an amazing time. Great date night outing. Food was incredible. It is pricey but considering all the food you get it is a great value. Our server was very accommodating and friendly. I was between appetizer choices and he offered to get me both instead of the salad that came with the prix-fixe menu. To me that was a great option. Our total bill came up to $200 for 2 with cocktails and coffee. Also, don't forget to dress nicely...it is that kind of place."

  • "Although my husband and I had been to L'Auberge Chez Francois for dinner several times, this was our first time going for Sunday lunch and bringing the kids. They offered a very nice children's menu (not inexpensive, but much better than your average kids' menu. No chicken nuggets or hamburgers here, but a variety of options that suited our kids-- ages 7 and 9). We sat outside on the patio, which is beautiful. The pace was very leisurely...we were there for 2 1/2 hours. If we had been sitting inside, it would have been a challenge with the kids...but because we were outside, we let them get up a few times and explore the gardens. The food was amazing and it is a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion."

  • "We held a special family occasion on a Sunday night for 12 of us. Fabulous! The service was exemplary. Coordinating a group of 12 through the multi-course experience has to be challenging, and they handled it flawlessly. The food was outstanding as always (and too much as usual, resulting in a number of "Can I take this home?" requests that they met graciously). Kudos to the chef and the staff for a memorable celebration."

  • "Beautiful, charming atmosphere, super servers, fantastic chefs and the best dining experience. Be prepared to spend a few hours enjoying the various courses. This is not an experience you would want to rush through."

  • "My dining experience was outstanding in every way! This was a delightful birthday dinner that will remain a memorable occasion because of the most excellent food, service and ambience presented at L'Auberge Chez Francois. This restaurant has earned it's renown and maintains it because of their attention to every detail of the guest dining experience. The menu selections were extensive - they all sounded so delicious that making a final choice was the hardest part of the visit. Each course was artfully prepared and served, and portion size was very generous. The ambience of this country inn is one of relaxed elegance. I hope to return soon to experience more of their culinary delights! The drive becomes scenic once you turn off Route 7.."

  • "Prices have gone up.... ! Everything was top... except the desserts... The complimentary dessert was a nice gesture on their part, but non particularly interesting: meringues with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. We chose the menu desserts included in the price. I had a soft meringue: beautiful presentation, nice texture, average taste. My husband had the chocolate tarte, mediocre: too bitter, and too much chocolate, too thick. We would have liked a soft chocolate mousse but that was the only chocolate option. Other desserts outside the menu such as souffles had an extra price. I would give a 4/5 stars because of the desserts, which should have been at the same top level as the rest of the dishes."
