Diner Reviews
  • "Nice place and food. Lunch will be a good choice since dinner is very expensive."

  • "It had been a few years since I had last visited L'Auberge Chez Francois, but it was just as wonderful as ever. Delicious food, attentive and charming waitstaff and little touches that make you feel welcome. I wish I lived closer to enjoy their gardens and the Bistro."

  • "Always a special treat to go this restaurant, the staff is attentive, they do not in any way try to rush you to "turn over" the table. Food preparation and presentation is always wonderful. The staff is helpful in any way you may deem necessary. It is truly worth the money spent. We have been going to this restaurant for 30 years and have never been disappointed."

  • "Skip the Inn at Little Washington - this is a local gem for your special occasion. Celebrated wife's 70th Birthday in the Patio Garden, in one of their two dining gazebos - perfect for a party of 6 but it was just we 2. Lovely view of the entire charming and colorful patio dining area, gardens, fountain and statuary. We had the Sunday 6 course luncheon; I'm sure all on the extensive menu would be good but I chose the veal scallopini with Virginia ham - and for dessert the chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream; she had the rainbow trout, and then cheesecake with raspberry culis. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The tiger swallowtail flitting on the flower bush nearby was on the house."

  • "The service, the food, the atmosphere! Unparallelled!"

  • "Sit outside if the weather allows. Food was best I have had in the Dc area. Ambiance was romantic. My husband and I are in our early thirties and the only ones without white hair. Not a criticism, just a comment on the clientele. I cant wait to go back."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary over lunch. I have been dining at L'Auberge Chez Francois for over 30 years and it is truly my favorite restaurant anywhere in the U.S. The food was outstanding, Freddie our waiter is attentive, knowledgeable and makes the experience even more special, and the ambiance adds to the overall experience. Can't think of a better place to celebrate a special occasion or just experience wonderful food at a very reasonable price."

  • "This was our third time visiting L'Auberge and each time it gets better. Offerings were mouth-watering and came to the table at exactly the right temperature. Our waiter, David, made a perfect evening even more so by making suggestions in an understated way and explaining the extras that are part of the norm. They remembered it was my husband's birthday and surprised us with a dessert. The inn is easy to get to, parking is ample, its just a charming little cottage ... we will definitely be back and we recommend this place to many."

  • "We invited our granddaughter (college age) for a special outing and dining experience since we had not seen her in a while. She had never been to L'Auberge and loves to go to unique places and try new foods. It was an all around big hit--dressing up, having attentive waiters, and eating Chateaubriand and a souffle - both for the first time. A pricey event, but worth it for something special. The ambience is perfect for having a conversation and the staff make you feel that they are happy to see you and want to please you. Still a favorite after many years!"

  • "Was there with 2 teens who'd never been there before. They were a little awkward, but the servers were very patient and kind with them. I've been there before, including when I was a teen at the DC location. It's always a wonderful special occasion spot. I liked that other servers filled drink glasses and got us what we needed when our server was busy. Great teamwork in the front of the house."

  • "An excellent restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. Also, a great place for a romantic date."

  • "This was my second trip to chez Francois and first time for lunch. Both experiences were fantastic. I strongly recommend ordering what is in season. For lunch I started with the asparagus with quail egg (the only marginal dish of the lunch), had the heirloom tomato salad from their garden (outstanding), the pan seared sea bass with vegetables from their garden (also outstanding), and the maple tuile with sorbet for dessert (I was looking for a lighter dessert given and it was perfect). They also provided an amuse bouche consisting of an asparagus soup and a glass of rose. I feel lucky to have such an expert french restaurant so close. This restaurant provides a large menu and is perfect for a special occasion."

  • "We had dinner outside on a Sunday night. It was a birthday dinner, though we didn't alert them. Food and service were outstanding. I hadn't been here in years, now can't wait to go back. I had lobster, my husband had rock fish special and we were both happy. Chocolate soufflé was perfect ending."

  • "We were celebrating our Anniversary and couldn't have chosen a better place. Excellent service and atmosphere. Wonderful food and a desert gift was a nice touch."

  • "My husband and I were there to celebrate our anniversary, and it was the perfect choice. The food was delicious, and the service (particularly Diane) and the pacing were exceptional. Her suggestions were appreciated and proved to be just the right thing. We enjoyed the meal (Chateaubriand), cooked perfectly to order, and the souffles, and we hope to return soon to explore the menu further."

  • "We always enjoy our dinners at Chez Francoise. The multi-course meal is quite nice, and the service is always excellent."

  • "L'Auberge Chez Francois is in a lovely, bucolic setting. Every morsel of food is exquisitely delicious and beautifully presented. Service is very attentive and professional, but not at all condescending as is the case in some upscale restaurants. Staff makes one feel welcome and comfortable. The restaurant grows much of its own produce and herbs. It is difficult to imagine how this place could improve. The only reason I do not visit more often is that it is a long ride from DC on narrow country roads."

  • "My son's 34th birthday was only one of dozens of special occasions spent here over the past four decades, and our recent Saturday lunch on the terrace was one of the best. We scored one of the gazebos in the bucolic garden, and the atmosphere and food couldn't have been better. One of our party was lactose-intolerant, and the waiter took note of this at every turn, even bringing her gazpacho rather than creamy lentil soup for an amuse-bouche. Smoked salmon was translucent and tasted like it had been swimming just hours before, and vegetables from the garden within eyeshot were delicious. To top it off, the waiter remembered my son's birthday! His dessert souffle was great, as usual, but my key lime pie was the real hit. Outstanding!"

  • "I took my mother here for her and my father's wedding anniversary. My father passed a month ago so it was a big deal. My mother fell in love with the food, the service, the experience and environment. Thank you for making this a wonderful night for my mother, my sister, and I."

  • "This old school Alsatian restaurant offers very good food in a wonderful country setting. The service is excellent and the menu proudly traditional. It appeals to the Washington types who have served overseas and that is why they drive out to the Great Falls countryside to spend several hours dining. It is well worth the trip."

  • "We have celebrated our anniversary each year for the last ten years by dining here. This time, the waiter was very professional and friendly, the food was delicious, and the entire experience was worth the price."

  • "A terrific and enjoyable meal with friends, excellent appetizers and entrees, first-rate service. The only flaw in the evening was the kitchen's failure to note our order for dessert souffles taken when we ordered at the beginning of the meal. The waiter was apologetic (but blamed the souffle chef) but we had to wait another 15-20 minutes after finishing our entrees for the souffles to arrive -- and predictably they were undercooked. Still a very nice meal on the whole and I recommend the restaurant highly."

  • "We went there for our Anniversary !! We seat outside and that was gorgeous !! Wonderful garden, with water fountain running, the tables are well located and not close each other, the 10 courses menu was fabulous (next time I will eat only half because is a lot of food !! And Good!!), and the service is design to make you fell special in each detail, including the special raspberry home made sorbet for those commemorating Anniversary and Birthday !! We will do it again!! Price is around 130 per person with regular wine. Parking is easy !! Even it is a large restaurant and have a bar it wasn't easy to find reservations for the time we want, so make it as early as you can (it is easy on opentable)!"

  • "We've been going to Chez Francois for special occassion dinners for over 30 years now. It has never disappointed us. At this visit, everything was great -- the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Although we enjoy trying new restaurants, Chez Francois is the old friend that always delivers."

  • "Amazing food. But wayyyy too much. No matter how hungry you go in, you will be sooo full by the end. Which is a shame for me because dessert is my favorite part and I hate to have no room left for it."

  • "After several years of living on the West Coast, we have returned to DC. Our recent dining experience at Auberge Chez Francois exceeded our many wonderful memories of past meals there. Our previous experiences at Chez Francois transported us to an Alsacian paradise.. The food was always delicious and beautifully presented. In the years since our previous visit the cuisine seems to have gained a creative edge and achieved a level of perfection beyond our expectations. We will be back there to dine often."

  • "We have had many anniversaries at the Chez. We remarked that on this, our 54th, we remembered a joyful day many years ago when we took the kids (all pre teens) to the Chez when the restaurant was on Connecticut Ave. The service and food has always been first class. The Chez sets the bar for first class dining."

  • "L'Auberge has been a favorite special occasion destination for many years. It is delightful that they continue to maintain high quality, excellent service, and a lovely location. Birthdays, anniversaries and other special days would not be the same without this gem. This time it was my sister's birthday, and lunch was outstanding. Filet was superb, lobster salad exquisite, and every other course matched the quality."
