Diner Reviews
  • "The food was tasty. Nothing jumped out as outstanding. I wish they served small side salads. I'd even pay extra for it. I got the Eggplant Parm appetizer as my dinner. I had to order a side of pasta to go with it since eggplant was not an option for a main course. The sauce on the eggplant was fantastic!!! The sauce on the rigatoni was quite awful. I wonder why they serve different red sauces on different dishes... Can't complain about our waiter, Sergio. He was quite efficient and pleasant and brought everything to us quickly. We ate here prior to going to the Walnut Street Theater. We were pleasantly surprised that they offer a discount to theater subscription holders =) We would eat there again."

  • "This was our first time at La scala's and we all voted that we would come back. The goat cheese and beet salad was amazing, everyone at our table loved it. The fusilli seafood dish was also a crowd pleaser. All and all, we would definitely come back for a dinner in the city. Great food, great service, and great ambiance. Loved the old school photography!"

  • "There are many great Italian restaurants in Philly and while I couldn't put LaScala in that category, they do have a very good menu that would appeal to many diners. Our food was decent, the service was fine. The location near Independence Hall is very convenient for tourists."

  • "We stopped into La Scala for dinner after a show, and as always, we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, the food was fantastic, and we had a great time. If you're looking for a place with a warm ambience, kind servers, and very good food after a day in Philadelphia (without any attitude associated with the "in" restaurants in Philly), this is the place to go. It's perfect for any occasion"

  • "We enjoyed another delicious meal at LaScala's before our show at Walnut Street. My favorite - the parmesan encrusted tilapia and it was excellent, a generous portion too. My husband ordered lasagna and he loved it. We also had the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. Delicious as well! Our waiter was attentive and efficient. The restaurant was not crowded that evening so we enjoyed a quiet, relaxing dinner!"

  • "Nice menu. Great location to the walnut street theater. Awesome that dinner includes free parking. Everyone very nice. I was annoyed that i was charged an addional $1.00 for angel hair pasta without telling me when i ordered it."

  • "My husband and I enjoy going to the theater and look for restaurants in the area. I checked out La Scala's on their web site and booked through Open Table very simple. The restaurant is very pleasant, plenty of room around each table. We were seated immediately and the waiter took our drink order within a short time. Dinner was excellent both appetizer and entrees. We will definitely dine hear again."

  • "I requested a table outside or in a quiet area of the restaurant. By the time we got to LaScala's it turned a bit breezy outside, so the hostess gave us the best of both worlds and sat us near a large picture window in a quiet section. I am amazed that a restaurant actually looks at the special requests section of an OpenTable reservation! Both the service and the food were amazing and I would definitely return here again to dine with my wife or for business."

  • "The staff was very friendly and helped us make decisions on both food and drinks; the drinks were perfectly made (not too weak, not too strong); the food was good and worth the price. Overall, a great meal, and a great time - and I'll be going back."

  • "My wife and I ate at LaScala's before a show, and overall the food was pretty good, but the service was not great. We shared a delicious Mista salad, and my wife had the Veal Saltimbuca, which was a little too salty for her liking. I had the Fusilli pasta with Shimp, Scallps and Crabmeat with a blush sauce, which was very tasty and a large portion. Our waiter was not inviting or helpful in explaining the menu choices or the restaurants specialties, and had to be asked for in order to settle up our bill. Overall I would say that it was good, and we might try it again, but probably would try other places first instead."

  • "I was told by my waiter there was no Alfredo sauce served at LaScales.......smh. Even though that wasn't true because I've had it there at least 10 times in the past year. Turns out my waiter wasn't certain of what Items the restaurant served."

  • "The beet goat cheese salad was wonderful. My husband's pizza was okay; my spaghetti was okay., both nothing to rave about. Girl friend had salmon, which she said was very good and her husband had the seafood diablo which he seemed to enjoy very much, The best thing is that they provide free parking!"

  • "Delicious pizza and salad. Nice portions. Fried calamari was great . It's a great restaurant to go to before a show and I've had lunch here and it's always been delicious. Chopped salad is like having a hoagie without a roll. Definitely a return visit. Thank you."

  • "My boyfriend and I went for dinner before a movie. The service was fantastic and food was delicious. We shared a salad to start--portions are definitely big enough to do this! We each ordered a pasta special. The ingredients were fresh and pasta cooked perfectly al dente. We will absolutely be going back when in the mood for a great casual Italian meal."

  • "This restaurant was a great find. The food was great, the drinks were excellent, and the added bonus was the fact that the restaurant validated parking from a nearby parking lot. We would definitely return."

  • "It is located next to both the Independence Hall and the Market Street and has a great ambiance. The athmosphere is great and service very nice. Food is very good and well presented. Veal Madeira was great, even I am not a huge fan of pairing it with linguine pasta. But the crab filled mushrooms were amaizing."

  • "All in all la scala's is a decent restaurant. I've never eaten here before valentines day but with my last minute antics this seemed to be the best noteable place. Friendly waiting staff and food cooked to your tasting! However, this isn't a romantic restaurant, it's more so a spot to go before a night out with your significant other and that's ok. Other than running short on asparagus the food here was very good! I had the grilled salmon and my girlfriend the filet. Both cooked beautifully. We had the stuffed mushrooms and bruschetta as appetizers and the mushrooms were great. As I said I'd recommend this place yes, just not as a romantic dinner spot."

  • "My boyfriend and I frequently visit when we are in center city. It's a great place to grab a late lunch or and early dinner. Were tried basically every appetizer and haven't been disappointed yet. The staff is great. From the hostess to the waiter to the management. Always professional and sociable with their guest. Even when they are busy they still take the time to engage with you."

  • "Our bartender Brianna was wonderful. She was friendly, made great drinks and took very good care of us. The food was delicious - misto salad, papardelle with bolognese, salmon, filet, and chicken marsala - very, very tasty. Menu had a lot to offer. Service was fine - not great but not awful. Loved the free parking that didn't require any outside walking, especially in the winter - super convenient in that part of the city. Had been wanting to try this place for a while and it was worth the wait - would definitely return."

We ordered: artichokes which melted in your mouth, wings and caprese apps, fettuccine with goat cheese, chicken parm and lobster ravioli."
