LaScala's - Philadelphiagreat italian food!!!My family and I love LaScala's because of the pizza and the home make pasta dishes. The noodles are homemade and are light which we enjoy. Their salads are large and fresh. The pizza is homemake too with it wheat crust and fresh basil which we love. They also have a large selection of desert to pick. It's 3 walking blocks to the theater and the service was fast and wonderful to get us in & out in a timely manner. The bar looked very nice however, we went right to our nice table at the window, as we had requested. The food was delicious! I had the Penne with pancetta in a vodka blush sauce and asked them to add scallops to it, which was no problem. It was awesome! My husband had the veal chop special which was the thickest veal chop that I have ever seen. He thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the ravioli and we shared the artichokes. It was very good. The wine list was had a very good selection. One of the things that was very distracting were 2 women sitting at the bar chatting very loudly, otherwise the noise level was not bad. The server seemed competent, however he seemed to lack warmth and friendliness. Not that I expect the server to fall all over me, but a smile and a little less formal attitude would have been welcome. All in all it was a good experience and the food is good but not quite great. The food is fantastic, the service is great (attentive without being annoying) and they have a nice wine list. My friends & I also love the free parking garage, as it can be difficult to park for those not used to driving in the city. Some of the seating is along the front & side windows which makes it fun to people-watch. The dishes I love the most are the roasted beet salad and the gnocchi - it is so light & delicious, and their sauce/gravy is very flavorful.
