Diner Reviews
  • "If you are looking for a special dinner out in the city, this is not the place. Food was good, service was decent, atmosphere was more sports bar than expected. Great casual Italian."

  • "My business partner in my party (1st time there) ordered a Steak Stromboli with Pepperoni. The order came out wrong (no beef only pepperoni) and was not fully cooked. To make things worst, the waiter offered to bring the beef out on plate. That's just like ordering a cheese steak and they offered to bring the bread on the side after serving it wrong in the first place."

  • "Great place for dinner before a show at Walnut St. Theatre. Great food, sat at the window, wonderful service, not too expensive and a short walk to the Walnut Street Theatre. !! (Free Parking too!)"

  • "We were visiting from out of town. Great opportunity for a family to be together and enjoy a wonderful meal. Highly recommend to all that are interested in a neighborhood family owned restaurant."

  • "Food and service have been consistently very good each time we dined at LaScala"

  • "I have visited LaScala several times for lunch and only one previous time for dinner. My first dinner experience was excellent however, the last one was not very good. The waiter was very poor and did not seem to accommodate us. He took our order and essentially abandoned our table only to have other waiters and servers meet our needs. I took friends there for the first time and bragged about the restaurant to them so this was an embarrassment for me to have such poor service. I'll be a bit cautious about going back there for dinner again. My friend asked about one of the dishes being prepared with less butter and using olive oil and the waiter abruptly answered "no" when asked for the substitution."

  • "Good place if you are sight seeing or going to one of the movie theaters in the old town area. The stuffed long hots were just so-so; I wasn't fond of the sauce which had a tinny taste. The chop salad was nice - the Crushed pinot noir on the menu was enjoyable. The service was good and the focaccia bread basket that came with seasoned olive oil AND a hunk of butter was really nice. I wasn't fond of having televisions around with spots on - I wasn't expecting a sports bar atmosphere because we were celebrating an event and having a horse race going on 6 feet from our table was a put off."

  • "Corinne was a very attentive server, the seafood Caesar salad was delicious, but the TVs from every angle were overwhelming! "

  • "Good food. Thought there would be more gluten free options"

  • "Found LaScala via OpenTable and was extremely pleased! We had only an hour to eat before out show and couldn't have been happier. The menu choices and wine selections were great, the food fresh fantastic, the service very quick and friendly. The daily specials were outstanding - try the striped bass sometime! We even returned for dessert after the show. And they have free parking - a real win-win."

  • "Have dined here before the Theatre many times and the service and food is always great. The servers always give you their attention and the food is always served in generous portions. Have tried many of their meals and have never had even a small complaint."

  • "My wife and I have dined here before and usually love the food and the service. The only complaint this time was that I ordered what was supposed to be a double cut thick pork chop medium rare, which was anything but in every sense of the word. The appetizers and drinks were great and the service was excellent, but the entrees left something to be desired. Maybe because it was a holiday weekend."

  • "Loved the appetizers - all were excellent. Entrees were were very generously sized. Free parking is a great convenience."

  • "We dined early 5:30 on a Saturday evening. At this hour we were nearly alone but could easily converse. The eggplant in red sauce & chicken wings with onions were 2 good appetizer choices, baked tomato & mozz cheese very boring. Seafood Fra Diablo was great, not over the top spicy though. Chicken Marsala was also a good choice. The Steak had its fans, as did the papperdella & sausage. If you are visiting the Liberty Bell this is a good dining option plus they have free parking atop the restaurant. "

  • "It was a miserable spring night-cold and rainy. But I promised my daughter some good Italian food and found this. I was mildly disappointed when I got there, it looked very generic inside and we were seated in a booth which was nice, but in the bar area. Everyone was friendly, but it was a slow night we were kind of far away from the main action, so we did feel a little abandoned at times. All was forgiven when the food came out, everything was great! We were still full of our huge 3 sandwich lunch at Tony Luke's, so we were trying to take it easy and shared a Caesar salad, a pizza, lobster ravioli and sausage and peppers side. Again I have to say, everything was great! This started as a pizza place and it has gone beyond that!"

  • "We have always enjoyed consistently good food and good service here at LaScala restaurant. We also enjoy their child friendly offerings, patient staff and good food offerings. We will continue to support the restaurant by going frequently as we live in the neighborhood. "

  • "The food was tasty. Nothing jumped out as outstanding. I wish they served small side salads. I'd even pay extra for it. I got the Eggplant Parm appetizer as my dinner. I had to order a side of pasta to go with it since eggplant was not an option for a main course. The sauce on the eggplant was fantastic!!! The sauce on the rigatoni was quite awful. I wonder why they serve different red sauces on different dishes... Can't complain about our waiter, Sergio. He was quite efficient and pleasant and brought everything to us quickly. We ate here prior to going to the Walnut Street Theater. We were pleasantly surprised that they offer a discount to theater subscription holders =) We would eat there again."

  • "This Italian restaurant has great food , quality service and a casual atmosphere which makes it great for business lunch , dinner and late night dinner as well . Good before or after the theater or movies and has a very vibrant bar crowd as well . Food is top north and we thought the salads were just unbelievable . Try this very high quality Italian restaurant next time you are downtow"

  • "This was our first time at La scala's and we all voted that we would come back. The goat cheese and beet salad was amazing, everyone at our table loved it. The fusilli seafood dish was also a crowd pleaser. All and all, we would definitely come back for a dinner in the city. Great food, great service, and great ambiance. Loved the old school photography!"

  • "There are many great Italian restaurants in Philly and while I couldn't put LaScala in that category, they do have a very good menu that would appeal to many diners. Our food was decent, the service was fine. The location near Independence Hall is very convenient for tourists."

  • "We stopped into La Scala for dinner after a show, and as always, we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, the food was fantastic, and we had a great time. If you're looking for a place with a warm ambience, kind servers, and very good food after a day in Philadelphia (without any attitude associated with the "in" restaurants in Philly), this is the place to go. It's perfect for any occasion"

  • "We enjoyed another delicious meal at LaScala's before our show at Walnut Street. My favorite - the parmesan encrusted tilapia and it was excellent, a generous portion too. My husband ordered lasagna and he loved it. We also had the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. Delicious as well! Our waiter was attentive and efficient. The restaurant was not crowded that evening so we enjoyed a quiet, relaxing dinner!"

  • "The staff was very friendly and helped us make decisions on both food and drinks; the drinks were perfectly made (not too weak, not too strong); the food was good and worth the price. Overall, a great meal, and a great time - and I'll be going back."

  • "Nice menu. Great location to the walnut street theater. Awesome that dinner includes free parking. Everyone very nice. I was annoyed that i was charged an addional $1.00 for angel hair pasta without telling me when i ordered it."

  • "I requested a table outside or in a quiet area of the restaurant. By the time we got to LaScala's it turned a bit breezy outside, so the hostess gave us the best of both worlds and sat us near a large picture window in a quiet section. I am amazed that a restaurant actually looks at the special requests section of an OpenTable reservation! Both the service and the food were amazing and I would definitely return here again to dine with my wife or for business."

  • "My husband and I enjoy going to the theater and look for restaurants in the area. I checked out La Scala's on their web site and booked through Open Table very simple. The restaurant is very pleasant, plenty of room around each table. We were seated immediately and the waiter took our drink order within a short time. Dinner was excellent both appetizer and entrees. We will definitely dine hear again."
