A word from LaSalle Grill
LaSalle Grill, a fine-dining restaurant and steakhouse, is born of the dream of experienced restaurateur Mark McDonnell. Like the restaurant’s namesake, noted French explorer, Robert de LaSalle, McDonnell set out to explore the uncharted waters of downtown South Bend, Indiana. In April of 1912, McDonnell opened a lively and exciting restaurant unlike any other in the area - LaSalle Grill.
LaSalle Grill is committed to providing guests with excellent service, great atmosphere, an award-winning wine list and, most importantly, delicious cuisine that is artfully and dramatically presented.
The Grill has been presented with the coveted AAA Four Diamond Award every year since 1996.
Set out to explore the "art of fine dining" usually found only in major metropolitan cities, visit LaSalle Grill.

Diner Reviews
  • "Andrew and Brian were tremendous. We were visiting from Oklahoma for the Sweet 16 Women's Basketball Tourney."

  • "The food was excellent and the service folks were "hopping to it". They are really keen on service and excellent food prep. Scallops for a starter set the tone, followed by a wonderful butternut squash soup, ending with rack of New Z. Lamb (amazing in every way). Please give this place a try (I made a reservation and you should also)."

  • "LaSalle Grill is one of the best restaurants in the area! I love to see what options are available on their menu each season. This time around I had the Bison Tenderloin - I savored every bite. The service was great and not overbearing as it can be in some restaurants. We were celebrating the birthday of my mother-in-law so we were enjoying the group conversation and felt that the service was perfect! I would recommend this for a romantic night out or just a really good dinner - but save room for dessert, it is to die for!!"

  • "We were greeted warmly and promptly. The service was exceptional, we did not wait to be seated even though we arrived 20 minutes early. The flow of receiving drinks, first course, salads, main entree and dessert with cafe was fluid and timely. The food was truly wonderful, the bison meatballs and kale salad was a treat! The salmon and steak prepared perfectly. The chocolate tart was exquisite to the palate. Our server, a young attentive waiter was knowledgeable and pleasant, giving meaningful suggestions. This was a wonderful ending to a special day and we look forward to returning soon.Thank-you for your commitment to great food and service.Bravo!"

  • "Have been patrons of LaSalle Grill since it opened many years ago and can say with great confidence it is an excellent palace to dine, and always has been. Setting such a high standard is difficult, but maintaining such a standard over the years is a monumental accomplishment. We'll be back!!"

  • "Our four meals were perfect! We were able to comfortably hear one another during conversation. (One of our members wears hearing aids.) The service was competent and attentive, without being overwhelming. Nicely done!!"

  • "Very nice night out. It's a busy place, and fairly loud-but personal conversations can still be had.... Great service-not smothering-but there when you want them. I had the blue point mussels for the appetizer, very good-tender with a very nice broth. For an entree, I had the pork chop-very tender and done just right--my wife had the duckling with gnocchi. The gnocchi was a little doughy-so I wouldn't highly recommend, but the duckling was very good. For desert, I had a chocolate terrine--which ended up like a thin slab of fudge. It was very sweet-very good, but couldn't finish it as for the sweetness. My wife had a warm chocolate cake with a side of ice cream--both very good--that's the one I would order when we return."

  • "LaSalle is a very nice restaurant. The food is solid. Chef does a nice job with the menus The service is impeccable, especially if Julian is taking care of you. Zoran, the sommelier, has a breadth of wine knowledge rarely seen in South Bend. Drew holds the whole operation together and makes sure your experience is above par."

  • "No doubt our top restaurant in the area. Excellent service just adds to the pleasure of dining at La Salle. They make their French namesake, Cavelier de la Salle, proud! As always we let Zoran, the sommelier, choose the wines and we are never disappointed. Try the wild boar, it is worth the trip. We also enjoyed the bay scallops and the mussels. See you again very soon!"

  • "I love fish. I always order fish. They had the most amazing special-John Dory. It was worth every penny! And the presentation was perfect. When I win the mega ball lottery, my chef is going to make me that meal for my birthday!"

  • "You will always have a great dinner at La Salle! This time I enjoyed the mussels and the wild boar cooked to the right degree! I put my trust in Zoran the sommelier as usual and the 2007 Bordeaux he chose was a powerhouse. It would be nice if there were a bit more vegan friendly dishes, not for me evidently, but for the growing number of vegetarian and vegans. ."

  • "Shared a special night with my sister, and at the same time observed others having a wonderful time. Our waitress, Peggy, was very good and helped make the night special. My sister had the duck, excellent and my fillet couldn't have been better until I paired with an Pinot. The whole staff checked on us, which in my books , " they are doing it right!". Julie Fallon"

  • "Enjoyed a wonderful dinner with out-of-town company. LaSalle Grill never disappoints. Food is consistently fresh and cooked to perfection. Excellent wine selection. This is our "go-to" restaurant for special occasions or just a special treat. On this occasion, our waitress was ok, but not serving at the same level of professionalism we are used to at LaSalle Grill. It could be she was new."

  • "Must be the best restaurant in town. Great ambiance, service and food. Delectable crab cake appetizer. Wedge salad not so much. Warm bleu cheese dressing, no crumbles, not to my liking. Turbot seasoned, cooked and sauced perfectly. Awesome haricot verts. Chocolate cappuccino like dessert. NOTE: perfect crab cakes and fish not easy to come by in Midwest in my experience so kudos on both. A favorite place to go."

  • "I rarely respond to review requests. South Bend is not a town I would go to as a dining destination. My wife,Son and I were there for a convention and stumbled over LaSalle on Yelp. Absolutely astounding! Often excellent restaurants are accompanied with high average prices(true here), but snobby service is also part of the bargain. The surprise for us was that our waiter had been there 22 years and knew and loved his job and it showed! On the way out we thanked the kitchen staff. Three had been there 15 years. If you can keep talent like this in a town like South Bend, you definitely have something going! We will be back. This place is 90 miles from our home and we will drive there as a destination dining spot. Truly THAT good."
