A word from LaSalette Restaurant
Fresh, Inventive Mediterranean and Iberian Cuisine in the heart of the Sonoma Valley Wine Country. Seafood and Portuguese Cuisine are our specialties. We offer a unique variety of fresh local and imported seafood specials daily including whole fish. The seafood selections on our menu are complimented by a variety of meat dishes ranging from the popular Pork Tenderloin stuffed with almonds, olives and figs to the, hard to find, Tripe Porto Style. Many of these dishes come steaming hot out of the wood-burning oven and fill the dining room with the exotic aromas of true Mediterranean cuisine. The menu reflects the commitment of Chef and Owner Manuel Azevedo to creating the unique culinary delights of his native Portugal and its neighbors. LaSalette Restaurant is proudly one of Zagat Surveys top rated restaurants in Sonoma. See our web site for the complete menu and a look inside our dining room, which features an open kitchen and decor that sends you back in time to old Lisbon.Continued
Diner Reviews
  • "After our recent visit, we reprimanded ourselves for not frequenting La Salette more frequently. The appetizers are authentically Portuguese and the wine list features many lovey Portuguese wines. The service is impeccable. La Salette is worth a diversion. We wont wait so long to return."

  • "There are a number of fine places to dine in Sonoma, but this is our favorite - even compared to some of the better known places! Do not miss it. And, do not allow your lack of knowledge of "Portuguese Food" to make you hesitant to make a reservation. And, whatever you do - do NOT miss the day boat scallops!"

  • "Unique food with Portuguese accents and full flavor; always delicious with excellent gracious service. Seating can be outside on the patio or inside the restaurant, either way the surroundings are pleasant, the waitstaff is attentive and accommodating. We have always enjoyed our choice of food whether it was the National Portuguese Stew, fish, or Pasta with Scallops. We have recommended LaSalette to many people, and have consistently gotten back a positive response."

  • "For a group gathering of 8 old friends, some were adamant about La Salette, having been several times previously. Nearly all, new and La Salette veterans, were disappointed this time. Two people, stuck in traffic, were 15 minutes late. This is tough for all, but the Maitre D(woman in her thirites)handled it very poorly. She ignored our concerns, but made it clear that we were out-of-bounds and that the table must be turned at 7:30pm (we began at 6PM). We were all so stressed by her 3 rounds of admonition, that it took until 6:45 to calm down. Admittedly this was tough for her, but as I started-out, she handled it very poorly. The Salette veterans were quite embarrased. Food was great;the experience was compromised."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us by one of the workers at Sterling Winery. He said we had to go there, since we were staying so close to the Sonoma Square! He was right! This was our final evening of a 10 day trip to wine country to celebrate our 30th anniversary! The food was excellent and the service was great! We had a lovely waitress who did a fantastic job! We could not have asked for a better last evening or a better meal! As we walked around the square after our meal, the full moon had risen above, putting the perfect ending on a wonderful evening and a fantastic anniversary trip!"

  • "For our anniversary, we were looking for a restaurant in Sonoma. Reviewing online menus, everyone seemed to have the same selection - beet salad, some kind of pasta, pork chop, flatiron steak and fish of the day. La Sallette's menu, on the other hand was different and intriguing. We arrived late for our reservation, but, were seated right away. Our server was attentive and four or five employees checked on us during the course of our meal - not hovering, just available. We split an heirloom tomato salad - delicious. My wife had the fish stew and I had the beef/pork/black bean cassoulet type dish. Both were great. My only issue is that one of the glasses of the Portuguese red wine flight seemed like it had been opened the previous day."

  • "We have been to La Salette several times a year for at least 5 years, as we have almost every restaurant in Sonoma. This is the most consistently excellent food in town. Fish is extremely fresh, presentation is sophisticated while still friendly, and the service is extremely pleasant. Salad and cucumber gazpacho were wonderful and sea bass, scallop pasta, and lamb loin were generously portioned and perfectly prepared. Desserts are very good; cappuccinos even though this is Portuguese not Italian are terrific. Wine selection is actually short but very creative and in well-described snippits for pairings. Nice vibe; outside tables during summer were full but beckoning; recommend reserving one if you can. Will absolutely return."

  • "The food was mediocre and the service was horrible. We waited for an hour and a half for our meal to arrive and when it did the server did not even come by to ask how we were doing or how we felt about the food."

  • "Must try their Portuguese dishes if you dine here. Food is good but Best of all is their Tapas. They are spectacular and each dish taste different and have their own distinct profiles and texture. Must Try!"

  • "Want something different than Itailian, California Cuisine or burgers/sandwiches on the Plaza? This portuguese restaurant is the place. Easily the most unique and delicious dining spot on the Sonoma Plaza, plus a great wine list with many portuguese wines and ports."

  • "Try the pigs ears, tongue, herloom tomato salad. Really!"

  • "We enjoyed a quiet date at this unique fine dining restaurant tucked away just off the Sonoma downtown square. Close enough to walk the square, but quiet since it's just off the main road. Excellent bread and a tomato salad to remember. My date had a nice steak and I had a very light sea bass dish. Wine flight was a nice option too."

  • "Chose this restaurant for a special occasion we were celebrating on our first trip to Sonoma. I enjoyed our wine flight as a nice way to sample local wines. They were all very good! My heirloom tomato salad was so very good and fresh, I would highly recommend it. The main course I chose was the tilapia and I probably would not choose it again. Not that it was bad but just ok. We finished with a dessert that offered 3 different samplings that wasn't to heavy and delicious."

  • "It lived up to my expectations...fabulous food, a great wine recommendation, excellent & friendly service and the best dessert plate ever! Wish I lived closer so I could frequent it more often. Don't pass it up!"

  • "The menu is so interesting and different than any other restaurant in Sonoma. My scallop appetizer was possibly the best I've ever had and don't miss the kale salad. It was perfect. The sea bass was tender and perfectly prepared. The service was friendly, helpful, and everyone seems to enjoy working there. What a great experience!"

  • "Overall the food was wonderful & so was the service. I have been to Portugal twice & love the food. LaSalette made it extrememly easy to make reservations on-line & view their menu. My neighbor is from Lisboa & she recommended LaSalette to us. Now I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Portugese cuisine."

  • "We made a reservation for dinner at 7:15pm for 5 people through Open Table. We were never asked whether we wanted to sit outside or inside. It turns out that we were assigned to an outdoor table in an aisle where there was a constant cool breeze. We were not dressed for that condition and as a result the whole dining experience was compromised. In addition, in spite of knowing that we were uncomfortable with the unexpected outdoor sitting, our food took longer to be served than most of the other guests around. And finally, neither the server nor the hostess checked on our level of comfort or tried to make our experience less painful (probably because the 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more would be automatically added to the bill)."

  • "This was our first occasion at LaSalette The food was outstanding! The whole Sea Bass was cooked to perfection. The small plates were delicious and the desserts were ample and very tasty. We would definitely go back."

  • "I thought the menu looked really interesting but our table was not impressed by the execution of the main plates. I liked the kale salad quite a bit and the iced tea was refreshing after a long day. It's hard to find a good restaurant in Sonoma that isn't extravagant. While the prices were reasonable for the area, the food was not. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice for a small group or family. The outdoor seating also looked very nice."

  • "Excellent, unique menu. This was my first visit, but will not be my last. Dined on the patio and chatted with very friendly customers seated on either side of our table. Excellent service and food, highly recommend this restaurant for many occasions."

  • "The food and service was fabulous. The salad was the most delicious and most unusal blend of flavors I have ever tasted. I will be back for more. The place is very busy, tables very close and the atmosphere is very energetic."

  • "stick to your ribs delicious local ingredients Portugese food. Ingredients as fresh as can be... We kept going back several times. Lovely little patio with space heaters. Hidden right behind the square in historic Sonoma. "

  • "We try to eat here whenever we are in Sonoma. It's a Portuguese foodie type place with homemade charcuterie, fresh fish, meats, herbs and vegetables. I had a pork shoulder and clam "stew" this time with homemade linguica in a rich broth with fingerling potatoes, cilantro and small chunks of bacon. Their food is creative and fresh with a twist of the Mediterranean. We sit outside in the patio with lit trees in big pots. Usually we have our lab who sleeps under the table. It's in a small shopping strip alley but seems separate when you're there. I highly recommend it."

  • "We have gone to La Salette for a few years. We often forget it, as it is down a side pedestrian walk off the Square in Sonoma. But every time we go, we enjoy some of the best Portuguese specialties in a wonderful setting. Kale salad, fish stew, chicken, beef. It is great food, honestly prepared (if sensitive, as them to go light on the salt). The wine list is quite reasonable and offers a variety of Portuguese wines not often encountered in Wine Country (they usually provide a taste if you are uncertain). Finally, the desserts are inspired. We have thought of going just for dessert and coffee. The Chocolate Fetish is to die for. All the desserts easily feed two. A worthy excursion."

  • "This is one of our goto restaurants when we are in the Sonoma Valley. In an alleyway off the main square, it can be missed, but if you want great Portuguese inspired food, this is the place to go. We had the carrot and ginger soup and the asparagus salad (topped with an egg and prosciutto). Dinner was day boat scallops, one prepared as a pasta and the other on a seasoned polenta which was seasoned with something we couldn't identify, but was amazing. Dessert was a selection of sorbets unlike any you've ever tasted. They have a nice selection of Portuguese and local wines . The staff is always friendly and helpful. If the weather is nice, eat outside. Looking forward for our visit."

  • "For years I have heard of LaSalette and decided this weekend would be the time to try it. I was not disappointed- the entire experience was beyond my expectations! If you think you know Portuguese cuisine- come experience something that ties the old with the new. The combination of flavors explode with delight with each bite. Chef is very serious and passionate when it comes to his cuisine. Try to sample a variety of everything (bites, starters, entree and yes! please make room for dessert!) when here and you will taste the extraordinary. My family was with me and were wowed as well from start to finish. In fact, on the drive home- 90 minutes- all of us could not stop talking about the dinner at LaSalette! "

  • "This is a small, nice quiet respite spot for lunch or dinner. It is down an alley and off the square. The food is overall good. It would be nice if they switch up complimentary starter or dessert truffle they serve, and change the menu every few months. Pleased with lunch, dinner...the sea bass portion did can seem small. "

  • "Waited to be seated, waited 25 min for appetizer then waited an additional 15 min after that for our entree. There appeared to be enough staff they just did not have it together. As for the cooks I don't know. The food however when it was served was excellent,"

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant to expand on your international flavors of Portugal. Start with the tapas, go ahead don't be afraid of the names, every one was delicious and worth trying."

  • "I was late and they held my reservation. The food was fabulous. The ambiance was great on the patio. The server , we thought was new, not really personable but not rude by any means. However, it was great place to take my daughter for her birthday."
