Diner Reviews
  • "Made the reservation in January for a March client dinner - during a very busy time in San Antonio. Two weeks prior to the dinner, the restaurant canceled my reservation. The restaurant initially blamed OPENTABLE. Subsequently, they called again to ensure I knew of the cancellation and informed me the restaurant was "bought out" for the night. Not an OPENTABLE issue. They never offered any options. Promised a manager would call me - never did. Hey, who needs my party of 6 when you can sell out the place? Well, my annual party of 6 will never be back...."

  • "Had eaten at the restaurant manty times before, and was generally quite good for lunch. This time however, was not. Three of us had the same chicken ceasar salad for lunch and we all agreed afterwards, it was horrible. They substituted in Boston lettuce for romaine and seemmed to forget to put salad dressing on the ceasar. As well, Tortilla soup was ok...nothing to write home about. Will definitely look for other options next time I am in the area for lunch."

  • "Wonderful! Meat and cheese tapas enough for a meal. Paella exceptionally good. Lamb was a nice choice too and cooked perfectly. Complementary valet parking and only minutes walk. from Majestic Theatre made a relaxing and fun experience downtown"

  • "Very good tapas on the Riverwalk. Had a very interesting menu with lots of authentic choices. Unfortunately, they were "out" of a lot of dishes. And it was fairly early on a Saturday night so I would say it may have been poor planning for the signature dishes. Ambiance tried to be authentic, but a bit modern because it was a fairly new hotel. All in in all, worth it, tho."

  • "THe staff was nice and the food overall was good. Unfortunately, my food was cold (meatballs and spaghetti) so the waiter did take it back to warm and my husband was finished eating by time I got it back. It was still just warm. But the environment is cozy and warm."

  • "We ate at this retaurant while on a business trip. It is in a hotel on a more quiet part of the riverwalk. Service was great and the waiter recommended an excellent Spanish wine. The waiter had a lot of knowledge about the menu and the wines. We discussed our tastes and everything he recommended was perfect. Very reasonably priced also!"

  • "We've been coming to San Antonio for many years for professional meetings, but this was our first experience with this restaurant. We knew nothing about it--it was a "let's give it a try" situation. As it turned out, we were very impressed. The atmosphere was fabulous, and we were happy to be able to converse with dinner, as opposed to many loud San Antonio restaurants. Our wine was excellent, the menu had lots of great sounding items we would like to have ordered, our food was beautifully prepared and presented, and our waiter (Joe) was a true professional. It's a little pricey, but after all this is a fine restaurant in a convention city. We consider this a very lucky find, and we definitely will be back the next time we visit the city."

  • "Service was prompt, informative, attentive with out being obtrusive, and courses were timed perfectly. The two hour dinner felt unhurried, and there was no lull in the dining experience. The food was exceedingly good, but the service was so good that you didn't even notice it until a day or two after when you thought about what made the meal so special. Highly recommended."

  • "3 people behind the desk when I arrive. They were hesitant and never mentioned follow me...all three left in different directions..wow, who do I follow? Once seated..10 minutes to receive my wine.Table next to me had two different menus and were totally confused.. Waiter totally out of his element..when I asked about the fish of the day he didn't know but would check for me. 10 minutes later I still hadn't seen him. Went back to the front desk for help, waiter returns but still doesn't know the fish special. I give up and order the spare rib. Nothing special....at all. Manager comes to apologize and I'm offered a free glass of wine. The issues rested with the waiter but also management ..poor training, poor attention to detail. Never again!"

  • "A last minute choice for an out of town visitor. A lovely evening with fine tapas and enjoyable wine. Fair to say a Texan read on Spanish food but no worse for that. Excellent, attentive service and nice location on the Riverwalk without being too deep in the action."

  • "We went to try the paella and found they change the menu without even advertising it at the web site to warning us. The place was like a hot yoga salon. First I started peeling coats and sweeter like an onion. The appetizers were good, except the meatballs, it is very difficult to make hard meatball and they accomplished. First entree: camarones al ajillo. Poor guys, overcooked on one side and the garlic sauce was obliterated by the chorizo added to the dish Second entree: Lobster… it can fall from the table and bounce back to the plate; so rubbery by overcooking it. Did I mention olives in all dishes, yes in all dishes! Too much of Spain for me. After three hours we decided to ask for the dessert to go."

  • "We dined there for our 45th anniversary. The sangria, paella, and gazpacho served were excellent - just like being in Spain again. The server was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, she kept us from ordering 2 pans of paella when there was plenty to share on one plate. The restaurant was aware we were celebrating a 45th Anniversary, and made the evening truly special for us from the two thornless roses on the table when we arrived, to the dessert plate of flan with chocolate strawberries that read Happy Anniversary around the edges. We couldn't have asked for a better mealtime celebration. Thanks Las Ramblas!"

  • "Dessert was so the highlight. In fact, My husband has not stopped taking about his dessert as being the highlight of ALL our meals in our San Antonio vacation. It was a pair of chocolate filled donuts on a creme brulee. We dined New Years Eve and all the courses were delicious. The table shared appetizers were fun and delicious. Service was spot on. Only one change I would like would be less olive oil drizzled on the lobster as it was too much and soaked the risotto. Happily the cocktails, apps and pretty room made that insignificant."

  • "The evening started with our group being served a room temperature bottle of champagne. We politely pointed this out to our waiter and the manager. The response from both was "Oh". No offer to bring another bottle so into the champagne glass went some ice. Appetizers were good, the salad was very skimpy and the tenderloin we ordered rare came cooked past well to not edible. We reported the overdone meat to the manager and his response was "We never cook tenderloin to well". Upon viewing the meat on our plates, his response was "I'll go talk to the kitchen". He never came back. Tre Leches cake was a tasteless sponge cake with a flavorless sauce w/ a few berries. Am local, won't be going back. Too bad, great setting on river."

  • "We chose to dine at Las Ramblas specifically to have paella, and the restaurant did not disappoint. My husband lived in Valencia, Spain for quite a few years so is well acquainted with this regional specialty and its many variations. I chose the simplest paella, he chose the version with a nice mix of seafood. We both were very pleased with the flavors, presentation, and execution of the dish. We also enjoyed great service from an attentive and friendly server, with added expertise regarding wine choices provided by the bar manager. All in all a successful meal and we will spend our dining dollars there again when we return to San Antonio."

  • "We dined twice at Las Ramblas...once for tapas and once for breakfast. Both were enjoyable for the most part...tapas can be hit or miss depending on your selection and tastes. We enjoyed them all, some more than others. The outside dining area is very enjoyable on a nice night, while the inside can be noisy when crowded. The one category that was sub-par was the service for dinner. There just seemed to be confusion or disorganization with bringing out the various selections of tapas, and, perhaps because the place was full and children were allowed to run around the dining room. The hotel was booked to capacity which may have accounted for some selections being sold out. We would try again in warmer weather dining outside."

  • "Locals in San Antonio usually avoid the big crowds near the Riverwalk loop. This is on the quieter side of the loop near Marriage Island. Ling wine list, great drink options, variety of Spanish appetizers, seafood, chicken lamb and beef dishes. It would be a great fall or spring outdoor dining destination. My only disappointment was the lack of dairy free options, especially at dessert."

  • "My husband and I dined at the restaurant for my birthday, and we were very pleasantly surprised how romantic and nice the place was. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We are from New York, and not many restaurants impress us. But we were very pleased with everything at Las Rambras."

  • "We went during the week when it was 35 degrees during the day and even colder at night, I imagine it would be a nice spot to sit outside along the river walk but... We had reservations at 6:30pm and got seated right away. To start, my new bride an I decided on a few tapas we would share, when we placed our order, they were out of 2 of the 3 items we wished to order. Really?!? However, they apologized and recommended some tapas and they were incredible. Add a bottle of wine and it turned into a great evening. Ambience could have been better but we were inside, i recommend sitting outside, weather permitting of course."

  • "This restaurant has a beautiful setting and the waiters are fantastic. It was unfortunate, however, that they were "out of" at least five entrees at the time we had dinner with our family. Especially since one of the entrees was going to be ordered by at least 5 in our party."

  • "Paella was rather bland and a bit too watery. The seafood was rather soggy. We've had paella at various restaurants across the city and this was not near the top. The curry chicken had was not a choice piece of meat. Notable fat and was not tender but rather tough and a bit under-cooked. I love chicken but couldn't eat it. Sure, it was a busy night, but that is not excusable for a restaurant considered to be high-end."

  • "We traveled to San Antonio for Thanksgiving and were staying at the Hotel Contessal - where this restaurant is located. We made a reservation for the Thanksgiving Brunch. It seemed a bit pricey, but it was definitely a reasonable cost considering the types of foods available, the quality, and quantity. They had everything! The conventional turkey and sides, omelet bar, fantastic display of seafood including crab legs, salmon, oysters, & shrimp.. A variety of salads and pastas, Paella, desserts galore, including pumpkin pie! The staff were all Very congenial and attentive, especially considering they had to be working on Thanksgiving. The staff make you feel like you are in a high class environment without feeling intimidated."

  • "Our go-to for Thanksgiving brunch every year. Only down side....no carrot cake this year. All the other desserts were to die for. We will make this an annual event for years to come. They do it up right and the service is unbelievably superior."

  • "Las Ramblas was our most memorable dining experience in San Antonio over the course of four nights. We tried a variety of tapas. The food was consistently excellent, and the service was attentive, timely, and courteous. I'm glad we didn't pay attention to the negative reviews about slow service, since that was not our experience (assuming you are content with eating at a leisurely pace while enjoying the river walk ambiance). Las Ramblas is in a quiet section of the (otherwise bustling) Riverwalk, which is a major plus. Overall, one of the best hotel restaurants I ever ate at!"

  • "Our visit got off to a rather shaky start with a rude hostess. But, our waiter quickly made us almost forget about her. The food and wine were delicious and the atmosphere was comfortable. It would be more romantic with lower lighting, but it is an attractive setting."

  • "I booked this reservation for a team dinner after a conference, which included team members from different countries. We all enjoyed the food and had a great time. The views are stunning and we were able to witness 3 weddings on Heart Island, which was located just outside the window we were seated at. Our wait staff was very attentive and also gave great recommendations for menu choces. Overall it was a great experience and we can't wait until we go back to San Antonio to dine there again."

  • "In the extensive food scene of the San Antonio river walk, a place that serves tapas is a welcome addition. The dishes are creative and include standard tapas such as gambas ajillo and patatas braves, but also more adventurous middle eastern-inspired dishes. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgable, but the kitchen was terribly slow. One should not have to wait more than 15 minutes for a small sausage dish (merguez) to come out. This was a disappointing experience of an otherwise promising meal. IF this restaurant can improve its kitchen services, I would recommend it. Otherwise, you will be equally frustrated."

  • "OK food, quality of service was just unacceptable. I do not believe waiters and managers knew what they were doing and why they were there to begin with"

  • "Highly recommend - our group of 5 had a large selection tapas and each dish was outstanding. The service and ambience were great. It was Saturday night on the River Walk so you have to expect some noise but this did not distract us from a wonderful meal. I will return on my next trip to San Antonio."

  • "ON the San Antonio Riverwalk -- the food is predictably excellent. Have eaten there several times. Paella is very tasty; fish dishes not overcooked. Very hospitable staff and option to sit on patio overlooking the beautiful river walk (when it's cool)."
