A word from Las Palmas Restaurant
Las Palmas is a family owned and operated business with strong ties to the city. From East Rogers Park to Wicker Park, we identify with the strain of this urban metropolis and feel a vested interest in providing a communal place for the essentials of human activities. Tucked into a tiny alcove in one of this city’s trendiest neighborhoods, Las Palmas remains one of Bucktown’s best-kept secrets. Upon entering the restaurant one’s senses are inundated with the vibrant colors of local and international artwork and the festive or melancholy sounds of live traditional music. Las Palmas serves spirited Mexican cuisine in a decidedly upscale, but refreshingly unpretentious environment. Chef Armando Gonzalez provides an exquisite selection of courses made from the freshest ingredients with solid roots in Mexican culinary heritage yet with a penchant for inventive whimsy.Continued

  • "Have been meaning to give this place a try for a long time and so glad we finally did! The margaritas were awesome, the guacamole made to order and delicious, and all of our meals fantastic. If we lived in the neighborhood, we would be regulars for sure. Can't wait to be back and to check out their back patio as well! Loved the live guitar music!!"

  • "This was my first time at Las Palmas, but I live in neighborhood and was always curious about the restaurant. They have a lovely, quaint, outdoor patio that provided a nice dining experience. The food was great, nothing mind blowing, but I would definitely return for another summer dinner! The drinks were great and they have an excellent selection of creative margaritas!"

  • "We were there celebrating the end of the school year for my best friend in grad school. The waitress was amazing and even offered us dessert on the house! However, she could tell that we were STUFFED from our amazing meals so instead, she offered us a shot of their house infused tequila! IT. WAS. AMAZING. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!"

  • "This is one of my best experiences. It had very flavorful food and very nice wine list. I have already been here before. They have outdoor seating which is even good in cold temperatures because they have heaters in place. It was quieter that the previous time I visited."

  • "Had the stuffed chicken and the filet. Both were amazing as was the guacamole and salsa."

  • "We had a male waiter who's name escapes me. Friendly and knowledgable made the night."

  • "Guacamole and salsa were very very good. Prepared to order. I had the seared tuna tacos which were superbly done. My girlfriend had the carne asada which was both very pleasing to the eye and taste. The first round of margaritas was the best...by the third round they were not nearly as good but I would def come back again"

  • "The service here is terrific -- waiter was always checking in on us and had a great sense of humor. The ambiance was equally soothing and eclectic with the sound of the Spanish guitarra not only sounding the beautiful traditional songs but also the romantic reggae songs such as "Waiting in Vain" by Bob Marley. The food was a little bland -- I had the chicken tacos, the chicken was under-seasoned (but the salsa and fixings made up for it); however once we informed the waiter, he quickly gave us a discount, understanding how unfortunate that was. Again, excellent waiter service. Great environment for a second date. A little noisy for good conversation but worth it for the ambiance. Margaritas are on point! And try the Pineapple Ginger mix!"

  • "Las Palmas is amazing. I first visited about a year ago and I have been back several times. The guacamole is handmade to-order and is the best I've ever had. The fajitas are phenominal, as well as any of the fish dishes and appetizers. I would highly recommend Las Palmas to everyone."

  • "Las Palmas in Bucktown/Wicker Park is a wonderful restaurant. The service is very good - feels like family yet also very efficient. The menu changes somewhat seasonally. The dishes are not your typical Mexican food. My favorite dish is the skirt steak marinated in tequila and pineapple, grilled and served atop grilled plantains and roasted potatoes. Always good qualit, preparation and service."

  • "For the past two years I have been taken to Las Palmas for my birthday dinner by my supervisor and I have enjoyed my experience on both occasions. They have always provided friendly service, delicious food and great drinks. One year I treated a friend to his birthday dinner there and they gave him a free dessert and had a musician come over and sing him happy birthday. I would recommend Las Palmas to anyone who is looking for a romantic spot in the Bucktown area away from the hustle and bustle of the other restaurants in the area. They will not rush you out so you can sit and enjoy your experience."

  • "Las Palmas was an exceptional dining experience. No giant burritos here. Instead, great choice and variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian Mexican entrees -- even a vegan option. Great sangria and margaritas, too! A neighborhood gem hiding in plain site."

  • "The staff was very accommodating during brunch last Sunday when I just mentioned that I was in the mood for chilaquiles, but it wasn't on the menu. The server asked the chef if he could make and order for me, which he did, and it was delicious!"

  • "Guacamole made to order was delicious! We ordered scallops, pollo rellano, and pork tenderloin with braised Brussell sprouts. All were yummy. The pork was perfectly cooked and so tender. Just the right amount of spice in each dish. Apple pot pie for dessert perfectly topped off our meal."

  • "The Cachaça Caipirinha is absolutely amazing! Once in a while, they also have Cochinita Pibil on their rotating menu that is to die for. One of the best places in the city and amazingly well priced."

  • "Not your typical Mexican dining. The service was pleasant. If you’re seeking more innovative Mexican, this could be your place. If your desire is Mexican favorites such as burritos, tacos or quesadillas I’d venture elsewhere since these are not an option."

  • "This is a great little joint. The food quality to price ratio was great. Everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered the guacamole and ribs for appetizers, and the pork and risotto for entries. Highly recommend this place for an impressive date spot or special occasion."

  • "I started looking around for nice restaurants to take my girlfriend to about a month before valentine's day and when I found Las Palmas I knew it would be a top contender. I read many reviews, a lot of which noted the great guacamole and intimate setting. About a week later the place was booked and I knew I had made the right choice. The fajitas were phenomenal, probably the best tasting chicken and salsa that I've ever had. Would definitely go there again and most importantly, my girlfriend loved it too! P.s. I forgot to mention the incredible guitar player that set the mood perfectly"

  • "I was very surprised at how much I loved Las Palmas. My husband and I were looking for a good restaurant with not a long wait on a Friday night around 7:30... hard to find in the city. Las Palmas had an opening on Open Table. We took it and were very impressed. The table side guacamole was amazing. I ordered it spicy... it wasn't very spicy but still so yummy. The strip steak and sauce was so savory and tender. My husband got the pork tenderloin and brussel sprouts which were delicious. I would come here again."

  • "The food and drinks were great. Our waitress was good too!!! The desserts were incredible :) Only issue we had was we were seated in the back near the door/ windows and it was quite cold. We also had a huge floor plant that was sort of hanging over the table which was little annoying."

  • "Excellent service, drinks and food. Highly recommend the homemade guacamole, the lamb chops are outstanding as well. We have been here many times and each time have had a 5 star experience."

  • "I can't believe I lived so close to this place for a year and never went here... Now that I live a little further in Lincoln Park, I'm sad I didn't come here regularly. Very cute place with really friendly and attentive service. Most importantly, excellent food! It's hard for me to go out and spend money on a nice Mexican dinner since I'm a fan of the many cheap and tasty taquerias that in the city, but this place is definitely worth it. Fresh, flavorful food with delicious and boozy margaritas! I'll definitely be back."

  • "I've dined at Las Palmas 4 times now, getting a different dish each time, and every time has been a true pleasure. The food is simply perfect, the atmosphere is lively and fun, and the service is very attentive without being obtrusive. This is my go-to restaurant in Chicago for special occasions."

  • "When we first walked in the door the restaurant seemed pretty small, but that was because the place is split into two dining rooms. I would have much rather sat in the front room as it had more of a date night kind of feel. The hostess took us to the back dining room where we literally had to walk through part of the kitchen to get there, which was kind of weird and we felt in the way as we had to duck so we wouldn't be hit in the face by a serving tray full of food. I liked the back room which was pretty much a huge sunroom, but it was just way too loud. I had to scream across the table in order for my husband to hear me. Other than that the food and service was very good. The pumpkin margarita was delish!"

  • "We were extremely surprised yet impressed with how great this little place was. It blended right in but was a great find. Can't wait to go back. Queso fundido!!!"

  • "Finally, some good Mexican food in Chicago! The menu at Las Palmas is creative without being too over-the-top. Las Palmas definitely sticks to traditional Mexican cooking, but the menu is a lot more than your standard tacos and burritos. The drinks (particularly the capirinha, perfect blend of sweet and spicy) are delicious. The churros dessert should not be missed. I also recommend the pork entree (cochinita pibil). Prices are fair and very reasonable. Las Palmas does not break the bank, thankfully!!"

  • "Service is friendly, margaritas are perfect, and the food is fabulous. Try the rib appetizer ... seems strange to eat ribs at a Mexican place, but you will be amazed!"

  • "Las Palmas is always surprising us with creative dishes that integrate what's seasonal with traditional Hispanic cooking. From the pumpkin appetizer - get it, seriously - to the ceviche, we are always pleased with the dishes at Las Palmas. On this particular visit, our service was not the best - a bus boy spilled a whole glass of wine on us- and while we expected to have prompt clean up and no charge for the glass - we were given no clean up and just another 1/2 glass of wine. I only say this because we've never had a bad dining experience but were disappointed by the instance. Not a reason not to go, I'd just recommend to hold onto your cocktails when they are clearing those dishes."

  • "We were a bit nervous at first, looked a bit like a hole in the wall upon arriving.. but so glad we found it! Great Drinks, Great food and fair price. Was in Chicago for the weekend and went to a few "top rated" places and missed a reservation so went here as a plan B- and so glad we did. This was by far the best place we ate while in Chicago. Drinks were strong enough and tasted great. Food was outstanding and bill was half of what we paid the night before at a 5 star place (but food and drinks much better here)!! Will be back next time we are in town."

  • "Though I should be clear, this was the first time that I had problem with service here. I have been to this restaurant at least half-a-dozen times before, with no issues. But on this last visit, we had a server who seemed so unfamiliar with everything, had such a difficulty understanding the basic things we were saying (I kept saying Vanilla, she kept repeating "we don't have banana!!!!!!!!!!, just one example), and was, simply put, inexperienced as a server, who brought appetizer, salad AND main course all at one time. When things like these keep happening, it makes for an irritating evening and you can't wait to get out of the place, no matter how good the food. The food = best quality and fresh ingredients, excellent preparations!"
