Diner Reviews
  • "Something was missing in the brunch offering. Seemed limited and the drinks were very expensive. Food was good I was not wowed and won't go back for brunch - may try it for dinner"

  • "Some of the best food I have had in a while. Highly recommended. Great atmosphere and location as well"

  • "The food was exquisite. However, the service was not great. I don't believe service should be compromised for great food. I would go back in hopes of better service but would probably not return if the experience were similar to the one I had the first time."

  • "Second time in 3 months that the team knocked this out of the park! Both times we ordered 5 items, and everything was outstanding! The wine list is also wonderful and the entire staff is awesome! This is our favorite place possibly in all of NYC for dinner!"

  • "We went very late on a Saturday night, the staff was very helpful with accommodating us as we moved our reservation to much later that night. The food was very good (the mushrooms are highly recommended) but nothing extraordinary. However I would nonetheless highly recommend this restaurants for nice late night dinners. The setting is also very romantic and worth a trip to the west village."

  • "We love L'Artusi! There are five sections on the menu: Crudo, Verdura, Pasta, Pesce, Carne. I recommend getting one item from each section and splitting it between you and your date or dining companion. Here is what we like. Crudo: Beef Carpaccio Verdura: Butter Lettuce Pasta: Bucatini Pesce: Tough one... we've been getting the Octopus, but lately we have been less impressed with it, so no recommendation for this section. Carne: Hangar Steak Enjoy!"

  • "The food was amazing! The wagyu beef tartare was soooooo good! The pastas were superb and the olive oil cake was yummy! Service can be improved, but overall, it was a great dining experience. I'll definitely go back!"

  • "The bottle of wine we ordered was the one thing we did enjoy when dining here. We were coming here for a very special occasion, and we were extremely excited to try this well reviewed restaurant. After our wine and appetizers were quickly brought to the table, the evening went downhill. Our food was brought out after having taken two bites of our appetizers, and the seafood entree was cold and tasteless by the time we got to it. The waiter walked by multiple times as the entrees sat untouched for at least 20 minutes and said nothing. We were not asked how the food was and service became nonexistent until we left, while the extremely loud table beside us was brought complementary drinks etc. with pleasure. Was an unfortunate experience."

  • "Spent ages researching a fab restaurant for our trip to NYC and LArtusi came up time and again. Beautiful space downstairs but iwe were placed upstairs and it was lacking in atmosphere-aircon blasting and partner facing a wall. We moved downstairs and had the most appalling rude perfuncionary up him self waiter who launched into the specials and seem affronted when I said I hadn't heard a word!!! He whisked away plates etc as though we were an annoyance. My husband said then lambshank pasta was the best he's ever eaten and his pork chop to die for. My meal was very mixed-delightful spinach and ricotta tortellini-with the let down being the Branzino-just a small fillet on a boring overpowering medley of olives. Bit disappointing."

  • "We went here for a special occasion and the food/service and whole experience couldn't have been better. Highly recommend for fresh pastas, fish dishes - great beef carpaccio. Creative drink list and great wines. Our waiter Abdul made our whole experience that much more memorable as he was helpful and attentive. We will definitely be going back again and again..."

  • "Came here for dinner on recommendation from a friend and L'Artusi did not disappoint. After speaking with the waiter for a wine recommendation and ending up with something we both enjoyed, we ordered two main dishes and two sides to share. For the main dishes we chose the Hanger Steak and Chicken Cavatelli. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly. The sides we had were the roasted cauliflower and the summer squash, both of these were also excellent and had lots of great flavor. Despite being fairly full, we went for dessert. On our waiter's recommendation (again, very helpful) we went with the bread pudding topped with a blueberry compote - it was a perfect end to this meal with an amazing balance of sweet and savory flavors."

  • "Everything here is incredibly delicious and all served in a beautiful restaurant and wonderful service. Everything was delicious. Great appetizers: scallops, fluke, hamachi, roasted mushrooms, kale salad; Pastas: bucatini, mushroom garganelli, spaghetti, chicken special. Rapidly becoming our favorite restaurant."

  • "I took my boyfriend to L'Artusi for his birthday. I appreciate so much that everything I requested was accommodated...discretely. Food and service were excellent. Nothing was too stuffy. They seemed to care about the texture of their food. Such a special experience. We would love to come back to try different dishes."

  • "We hosted two client couples and had a fabulous evening . . although we were clearly a generation older than the average patron. This is a wonderful restaurant, so much so that one snafu at dessert did not impact the evening."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. They do Italian, and they do it well. Every dish I've eaten there has impressed me and my guest(s). And the wine list is great! They're a class act at L'Artusi and the staff is very knowledgeable."

  • "Amazing Italian dishes, excellent wine and great service. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the wines - he ensured we had a wonderful experience. Definitely coming back to this one!"

  • "The spaghetti with chiles was amazing. Whatever my wife had was delicious too we both never came up for air from our plates , the ricotta with crackers is a must try u can't leave without trying. Our server DAN recommended a great red wine with our food"

  • "We have two young kids and wanted a night out. While this was fine, there was nothing really great about it. Despite having made a rez far in advance, we were seated in the bar area which was not very relaxing at all. It did not have the vibe of fine/nice dining and felt rushed. The "ricotta" they are supposedly known for tasted like butter, not like cheese, and was served with sweet jam, which made it a dessert, not an app. Our cocktails were delicious and the outstanding waitress made excellent wine recommendations. The entrees were overpriced for what was served, but the pasta was the star of the show and not to be missed. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the selections. Overall, an OK night out, but we won't hurry back."

  • "L'Artusi is perhaps the best kept secret in New York City. The food is amazing and the restaurant is beautiful. It is a great way to spend an evening in the West Village that is both special and romantic. My wife and I usually dine at high-end restaurants and L'Artusi has no trouble competing with the best restaurants in New York that are much more expensive. L'Artusi is a place that we hope to return in the near-future."

  • "Lived up to and exceeded our expectations based on the casual ambiance, excellent service and a truly memorable dinner all thus bringing the experience to a very successful conclusion. The small plate concept allowed us to share a middle pasta course orchiette with sausage which would have been a miss if we had not done so. Hot and cold first courses were great and both the fish and meat main courses were extraordinary. Dessert options were all great as well. The restaurant clearly deserves the acclaim it has been receiving."

  • "Excelente restaurante italiano, com pastas maravilhosas, a carta de vinhos é espetacular, mas só tem vinhos italianos, o atendimento é muito bom, o local é agradável, um pouco barulhento, mas é normal quando se trata de um local italiano. A sobremesa é boa!!! Gostei muito, indico como uma boa opção em New York!!!!"

  • "My husband and I chose L'Artusi for our anniversary dinner this year. We hadn't been to the restaurant before, but after reading rave reviews, decided to give it a try. Everything from start to finish was outstanding. We've already begun telling our friends and family they have to try it! We'll be back soon."

  • "My boyfriend and I were not blown away by the food. We got the beef carpaccio as an appetizer. It had a strong garlic/onion taste. I had the branzino and my boyfriend had the orecchiette. Both were good. We had some crispy/spicy potatoes as a side. It comes with a homemade sour cream and onion dip that is delicious. The waiter and staff did an excellent job throughout the night of filling our waters and recommending wines. I would probably go back, and I would recommend the restaurant to friends."

  • "On my most recent dinner at L'Artusi my wife and our best friends decided to celebrate our belated anniversaries. We agreed to share multiple courses and we had two openers, three pastas and two mains. Everything was excellent especially the special pasta with wild mushrooms and the grilled octapus. We brought three bottles of old Italian wine to compliment the dinner. Each meal I have had has been as better than the one before."

  • "I've eaten here several times and the food and service have been fantastic every time. It is always noisy and packed, though. Tables are close together -- just hope you don't get a loud talked next to you! Well worth it, nonetheless."

  • "Had to pleasure of celebrating my first anniversary with my wife at L'Artusi and it was a fantastic experience start to finish. Kind and attentive staff, amazing wine list and some of the best food I've had while in New York, all within a beautiful dining space. Can't ask for much more. Thoroughly enjoyable and would happily recommend."

  • "LArtusi was recommended to my daughter and I for a Sunday brunch when we were visiting New York. It did not disappoint! Excellent, fast service and the food was delicious. Hostess and waiters were very friendly and professional. Located in a great area in the West Village right off Bleeker St. Great for dining and then shopping. Can't wait to go there for dinner next time we are in the city."

  • "Fab restaurant with delicious food. All pasta dishes are great -- my fave is just simple spaghetti with bread crumbs and chili peppers. Could lick the plate. My husband had the hake and wolfed it down. Gets very noisy during prime time. And tables are close. But very enjoyable"

  • "We had the garganelli and the rabbit gnocchi, great dishes, just enough to share for 2. The sweetbread was great though they came in morsels and the scallop crudo, outstandingly fresh and balanced with spices. The only negative, is that it is very hard to get a reservation on the prime time. After two calls to the restaurant, I decided to use Open table, which helped me look for one."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "Portions are small, but the food was exceptional. I highly recommend the homemade Ricotta Cheese with Rhubarb compote, the pasta dish's. The dessert menu included an olive oil cake, which I can best describe as interesting."

  • "This is my second time dining here and it was as great as the first experience. Amazing wine list and cheeses. The food was flavorful and well prepared. The restaurant also has a great warm and inviting ambiance. I only wish the tables were spaced out a little bit more, but that's a common NY restaurant trait."

  • "highly recommend it, dishes have good portion, price is reasonable, wine list is great, be careful with the creamy dishes with cheese are super good but super rich. great for family style eat you can order several dishes and try a little bit of everything because they are all good"

  • "Superb food--beautifully presented, delicate and authentically prepared. The service was outstanding. I'm allergic to garlic and the staff had prepared an annotated menu for me. Everyone had been informed. And, unlike 99.9% of restaurants I go to, the majority of the dishes did not incorporate garlic, or it could be eliminated. Much truer to my experiences in Italy. It's only in the US that garlic permeates everything. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Excellent food & drinks. Some of the tables are extremely close together, so it creates a pretty loud situation, and also makes it pretty awkward if you have to get up at any time during the dinner - you have to move the entire table out of the way to get out. It would be nice if they didn't try to pack quite so many people into the restaurant. Other than that, excellent food & service."

  • "4 of us ordered several dishes and shared. Our waiter was knowledgable and helpful. Everything he recommended was fabulous. Scallop crudo, octopus, riasted mushrooms, special pasta with peas & pea tendrils were all amazing. Olive oil cake was soooooooo good!!"

  • "Another great meal at L'Artusi. Their pasta and a great wine list are definitely a strength. We are also enjoyed the charred octopus and the quail which always seem to delight. Give them a try if you have not but reservations are pretty much essential even for early seatings."

  • "I've been going to the Lucille Lortel Theater for years. New show, new restaurant. L'Artusi is the first restaurant that I just had to go to twice! I couldn't stop thinking about their roasted mushrooms. So I went again last night and it was everything I had remembered. Light and deliciously flavorful small plates. We started with two Crudos, the scallops and the fluke. I loved the scallops. We ordered the crazy delicious mushrooms and the cauliflower. The Spinach Pici Pasta special with a Pork Ragu was AMAZING. And to top it off the waiter picked the perfect glass of wine for me (Meroi Sauvignon Blanc). I just may need to give up my restaurant wandering ways and make this THE ONE whenever I'm at the theater."
