Diner Reviews
  • "L'Artusi was recommended and much vaunted in various guides and reviews. As an early diner it was disappointing to be placed upstairs in an empty area of the restaurant. The atmosphere was certainly different than the buzzy downstairs. A simple request for balsamic vinegar to accompany the oil given with the, some would say crusty, cynics may say stale, bread, elicited a fairly terse response from the chef; our surprise shared also by the waiting staff. A small suggestion from a diner, however inadequate they are deemed to be, rudeness usually prompts one never to return or recommend. On the plus side, knowledgable and attentive restaurant staff, fantastic scallop dish, wonderful Hake special entree but dull Bucatini."

  • "This continues to be one of the best brunch menus around. Lots to choose from for main courses. Be sure to get the assorted pastry basket - phenomenal. Very attentive service, too."

  • "The restaurant is very, very noisy and not the place for a quiet romantic dinner! It would be helpful if you could speak Italian otherwise the waitress will require to order for you. The food is good, sensible portion size and not too expensive. The wine list is extensive. Be prepared to queue to visit the toilet. Just a bit too pretentious for us. We visited Little Italy the next evening and had a very enjoyable experience in a "run of the mill" Italian, with good food, convivial atmosphere and space between us and other fellow diners."

  • "First visit here on a quest to diversify our choices for italian food. We were very pleased with the experience. A competent kitchen crafts your meal with love that you can taste in every bite. Great wine list and smooth service. Overll highly recommended."

  • "Everything was incredible - the pastas, the vegetables, the olive oil cake! Will definitely be returning"

  • "Very well prepared linguini and the gnocchi was the best. Fast service late at night."

  • "We had a fantastic meal at L'Artusi. The menu has a number of smaller plates so it's just great to be able to order several different items and get a taste or two. The service was fantastic, really attentive. We were celebrating two birthday's at our table and we called ahead to let the restaurant know. When I walked in the hostess and the waiter were fully aware that we had two birthdays. We ordered two desserts for 4 at the table, and they brought out the two desserts plus a small scoop (canella) of ice cream and a cookie along with the desserts we ordered. I thought that was very nice. My only complaint was we ordered a hanger steak and the waiter never asking us how it should be cooked. As a result, the steak was very underdone!"

  • "Another fabulous dinner at l'Artusi. The butter lettuce salad is so delicious, as is the spaghetti with garlic and chives and the olive oil cake.. Great cocktails, nice wine list .. what more could you want?"

  • ""Cozy and intimate" environment. We shared dishes trying the crudo's, cauliflower, (excellent) and Octopus (chewy). Annoyingly poured the wine like its pelligrino. Every 3 minutes there was an arm reaching over my tiny table that was shoved 6 inches from the tables on either side of me to either bring a plate, take a plate, pour more wine, fold a napkin. I suppose the service was excellent to a fault. After my hectic work week I was looking forward to a relaxing dinner but between the ubiquitous arm/hand in my face and the fact that every time one of the many staff passed by me they bumped into my chair I started to develop a tic. We left and had more drinks elsewhere. With the many options available to me in NYC I doubt I will return."

  • "The hazelnut/chocolate dessert was unreal. The pasta special was a little too salty. I was expecting the pasta dishes to be better. Great ambiance."

  • "I had dinner with my girlfriend at L'Artusi for Valentine's Day and it was awesome. The food was phenomenal and the service was top-notch. I recommend this place to anyone looking for an affordable date spot with great drinks and service."

  • "I really liked this restaurant. We went there for a special occasion with friends before they left for London and the ambience, food, service, decor was all great. Portions were a good size, not too big or too small. Everything about this restaurant was great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and would go there again."

  • "LArtusi is now one of my favorite Italian restaurant. Great portions and selections. Excellent wine list. One downside was that the Swordfish Linguine was slightly salty."

  • "biggest complaint was having to wait 20 minutes for our table even with a reservation, and the front foyer being packed with other waiting/irritated people."

  • "Make sure you sit close to the bar, or upstairs. closer to kitchen is no fun, poor service, higher noise, and bad ambience"

  • "The waiter provided excellent suggestions. I'm not one to order chicken at dinner, but it was incredible, as was the fish. The pastas were divine and arrived speedily. Also, what an excellent gimlet! My boyfriend even ordered dessert, which he never does. In a dream world, I would be able to try everything on the menu."

  • "Came here Sunday night with 3 girlfriends and it was an amazing first time experience. The restaurant gave us a semi private corner table near their amazing wine cellar and I believe it was the best seats in the house. Our waitress - Lisa - was so great that I think it is what makes my first time here so memorable. We ordered about 7 things to share and my favorites were the Roasted Mushrooms, Bucatini, Charred Octopus, and the sweetbread. Lisa also recommended me a glass of the Odoardi Terra Damia and it was delicious. Overall, I had an amazing time with delicious food, great company, and a dining experience that I'll definitely recommend to all my friends."

  • "It was quite possibly, in terms of both food and service, the best restaurant I have ever had the privilahe of sharing with my wife."

  • "Exceptional dining experience. Beautiful restaurant, fantastic service and heavenly food. The roasted mushrooms were other wordly and the artic char was delicious! I am still thinking about our meal there and looking forward to returning ASAP!"

  • "The food here is very good but the portions are very small also the space is very cramped we were sitting right next to another couple not even 2 feet away and then to my right there was a party of eight who have trouble getting into the tables because I was seated right in front of their booth place has very good food even great, but the small portions and tables make it hard to recommend"

  • "Delicious from start to finish. Hangar steak cooked perfectly with awesome potatoes. Octopus app was also perfect and service was outstanding. Gnocchi with lamb shank was great. Seating next to the bar was noisy; wish we had asked to change table to upstairs? Several others seated after us had done just that. We'll know for next time."

  • "Excellent food and service. The roasted mushroom with pancetta and ricotta salata was excellent."

  • "From various reviews I read I was expecting a romantic atmosphere with above-average food at reasonable prices. I got a loud, crowded bar/restaurant with tables so close together it was difficult to distinguish our conversation from our neighbors. The service was ok - especially given the packed house. The food was ok nothing memorable. And the prices were reasonable - although our martinis were served in small, rounded glasses that were different from the martini glasses that I saw at the bar. Did they run out? This would be a great hangout if I lived in the neighborhood but certainly not for an out-of-towner looking for a place to recommend as a destination for great food and ambience."

  • "Decided to make Valentines Day dinner plans after the 14th since the wife and I were out of town for the actual date. Heard great things about this restaurant and booked a 7pm reservation. That night, both of us were running late from work and were 15 minutes late and they still sat us right away. The server was just as attentive to us as he was to the 6-top of girls and 4-top of two couples that sat on either side of us. He answered all the questions we had about food and drink recommendations and even offered some of his favorites as well. On top of all of that, the food was superb. The portions were also quite the surprise as they were very generous portions that we were able to take home. Will definitely come back again!"

  • "Food was good, but not outstanding. Interesting brunch menu with some creative dishes. Came too early for the cocktails, but they sound really good. Brunch - Good, Dinner - Amazing!"

  • "I love this restaurant!! Probably my favorite in the city. I would give it more stars if I could. I make sure to go as often as possible - each time I'm unsure if it's going to meet my expectations and it always does (and exceeds them). The mushroom appetizer is my favorite and the chicken is by far the best chicken dish I've ever had (the only downside is that no other chicken ever lives up to it when I go elsewhere). The drinks are great too, including delicious cocktails that are fun but not too far-fetched (loved their Texas mimosa last time I went)."

  • "My husband and I celebrated a Valentine's Day dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food is well thought out, decadent but not heavy. The ambience was warm and inviting and our server was spot-on. We only wish we had requested to sit downstairs near the open kitchen where it felt like the action was happening. We were given a small table upstairs squeezed between two other couples which was fine but always a bit distracting when you're bumping elbows with your neighbor."

  • "Our meal was fantastic but we had to wait 45 minutes after our scheduled reservation to be seated."

  • "This is the kind of restaurant that you can come back to... it's always good. Favorites include fluke ceviche, the incredible chicken, arctic char.. the panna cotta comes with absolutely incredible coconut sorbet and pineapple compote. Loved it as always!"

  • "Italian restaurant that is praised for its pasta says that they don't have enough pasta in the house in order to be served at the same time for the two of us? Then the manager brings chocolate cake in a brown bag (my husband`s birthday celebration), because after waiting for over an hour for our pastas, we`ve had enough. I think not. Disrespectful service and awful experience."

  • "The idea of going to an italian restaurant is always filled with anxiety for those of us who avoid gluten. I was so happy to find out that they can make any pasta dish gluten-free, and not only that but they taste AMAZING! The staff was incredibly helpful. I will be back - OFTEN."

Our server Nick was extremely gracious and made several excellent recommendations for food and wine. Next time we are in NYC we will definitely be stopping by again and enjoying the fantastic cheeses and pastas again!"
