I'll start at the bar. Bar service was excellent. I waited there until the rest of the party came. Great service, and bar staff was engaging. Food was great, beginning with the appetizers. We had Oysters, shrimp and calamari. All were great! Dinner, wine menu and dessert were also good. Duck came out a little under, but the staff helped remedy the situation. Will most likely be back.

We had theater tickets so we booked a reservation an hour and a half prior to the show. We told our server we had theater tickets but it took exactly 55 minutes from the time we were seated to get our main course. The manager apologized, saying they were busy, but by the time our dessert arrived, we didn't have time to eat it since he had only ten minutes left until the show started. We rushed our entire main course, and didn't enjoy any of it. We already had another reservation for the next theater night, which we will now cancel so we can dine somewhere else.

Larkin's has never disappointed. The staff are great, they're friendly and knowledgeable. Service was excellent and we'll timed. There was a large pre-Peace Center crowd present and the service was still excellent. Four people were in our group and all raved about the food. Our only complaint is that the tables provided leave four people a little cramped-they're a little small. Highly recommend this restaurant for great food and service.

I had heard great things about Larkin's on the River and wanted to try lunch while visiting Greenville for the weekend. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I thought that the steak salad would be a sure bet. I was not asked how I wanted my steak prepared. When it arrived rare, I was surprised, but went ahead and ate it because I didn't want to complain. It was so chewy and full of fat, I had to spit part of it out into my napkin. This was pretty embarrassing for me, so I didn't say anything about it, but I wish I had. I was with a friend that I wanted to treat for lunch and I didn't want to make a scene over the food. However, when we ordered a latte' and received a cup of coffee in an espresso cup, we were both confused. Our server told us he had to ask how to prepare the latte' and he was instructed that only a cappuccino has foam. Unfortunately, there was no foam on our latte' and the coffee was very cold. Plus, it was served in such a small cup that we were not sure what was going on! My friend was very disappointed because she travels to Italy frequently and she was looking forward to a nice latte' with dessert. I'm not sure who trains the staff at Larkin's, or why the waiter was allowed to make a drink that he had no idea how to prepare, but the management needs to change this process. Larkin's is much too expensive for this type of event to take place.

In the past, Larkins has always been a place that I would recommend. We took another couple with us for a Saturday matinee at the Peace Center and Larkins seemed like the perfect place to dine since it was right downstairs. The menu was good, but the service was terrible. We waited 15 minutes for a cocktail that never came, before canceling and ordering wine instead. Service was slow and spotty. We had two waiters because the first one was too busy. Very sparse service staff, only one bartender and many other customers who had come for a pre-theater lunch. The salmon served over grilled veggies was very good, as were the sandwiches.

Our group (generally 6-8) eat here prior to matinee performances. Food is generally very good but service is slow and inattentive. The table is rarely served at the same time forcing many to eat food not the proper temperature. Location is so convenient that we often overlook the service. If the service were better it could be great...

Larkin's is one of our favorite downtown restaurants. We had friends in for the weekend and Larkin's was our first choice for a lovely dinner with friends, as well as to enjoy the river view. We started off with the tableside caesar salad for four and all were delighted with the preparation experience and the wonderful taste. Each of us chose a different main course and all agreed our selection was excellent. The Osso Bucco was not only beautifully presented, but taste was awesome. The Sesame Encrusted Ahi Tuna was prepared perfectly. The Chilean Sea Bass and the Atlantic Salmon were both excellent. Service was well-timed and friendly, and the server was knowledgeable about the wines.

Larkins in a good location in the restaurant itself is quite an appealing place. The staff was nice and once again it is located in a beautiful location on the river. The food was definitely overpriced and quite honestly the steak and the appetizers we had were good but not great. The shrimp and grits was very good no complaints. Overall it was the cost of a very nice restaurant and the food of an average restaurant.

We enjoyed our lunch here a great deal. The room is just beautilful, right on the Reedy River. Outdoor (enclosed with plastic so not cold) seating was available, but the indoor room was so pretty, bright and warm that we opted for that. Service was good although it was very obvious that our waiter was brand-new and we had to ask for a couple of things such as butter for the bread. But he tried very hard, and the manager was observing closely and doing some coaching, so that was good. Food was quite good, wine list is very extensive. We would definitely return, in fact we plan to do so. Also hope to try Larkins on the Lake in Lake Lure, NC.

Dinner at Larkens on the River is an exceptional experience. Being originally from the New York City area and having dined at some of it's finer restaurants I can honestly say that Larkins can easily compare with any of them. Their quality of food, wine list, and the service is all excellent and can match any New York restaurant. The only difference being the size of the dinner. From the appetizer, to the salad, to the main coarse, all are more than enough to satisfy anyone's appetite. You definitely get your money's worth here. GolferSC

This is a great restaurant, the food, the wine choices, the setting overlooking the Reedy River, the service, and the people was just wonderful. My wife and I would say Larkin's by the River is comparable to any of the fine restaurants of New York City which we have dined in frequently having been long time residents of that area and Washington DC (having family there). You would be hard pressed to find such a fine restaurnt within 200 miles of Greenville, including Charleston and Atlanta.

I took my friend to Larkin's before a show at the peace center. She is moving to Chicago. She is 87 years old and they did everything possible to accommodate us. Our meal was excellent. We had the surf and turf that was on the 3 course menu. Choice of soup or salad for the first course. She had the she crab soup and I had the salad. The soup had abundant crab and the salad was so crisp and tasty. We both had the surf and turf and for the 3rd course of dessert we were too full to eat it so the waitress was so kind to offer to put it in a box plus what we had left over and said she would put it under refrigeration for us till after the show. We couldnt have had a better experience.

Came to Larkin's for a birthday celebration. For appetizers we had oysters on the half shell, shrimp cocktail, tenderloin & goat cheese quesadilla, & bacon wrapped scallops for a combo platter. All were delicious, most notable were the quesadilla and scallops. The She Crab soup was unbelievable as promised. Steaks were cooked to exact temps, the salmon and shrimp & grits made for happy diners. Side dishes of Brussel Sprout hash & smoked Gouda mashed potatoes were favorites. The only things that weren't a big hit were the asparagus (tough) & non-descript mashed potatoes served with some entrees. Finished with creme brûlée, key lime tart, chocolate hazelnut torte & chocolate cake. Becky, our server, was attentive, knowledgable & perfect!

This restaurant over delivered in every way. From their house selections of liquor and wine to the waiters attentive service and finally the food. You know when you order something like calamari, creamed spinach or a steak and you have an expectation or a pre notion of what you hope it to taste like? It is not often when that expectation is exceeded and that is exactly what happened at larkins, their flavors and takes on certain dishes are now what I expect which is going to leave me disappointed at other restaurants. Disregard any bad reviews on the food, some people like the people behind us will never be happy with anything. They were being ridiculous, the manager and the server bent over backward to make them happy. Great great place!!
