The service was the best I have experienced in San Francisco. It's the perfect place to dine before shopping or before going to the theater. They have a very diverse menu and the food is consistently excellent. The service is, and always has been, outstanding. The Service was excellent, from the host to the waitress. The food was very fresh and and very tasty. The Mahi Mahi was very tender and flavorful that was cooked to the perfect temperature. The steak rivals the best steakhouses in the city and the desserts are delicious. Perfectly cooked fillet for her and fabulous NY cut (USDA Prime) for me. The sides: split a salad, grilled asparagus and baked potato were are perfect. My wife had told them it was my Bday so they gave me a candle in my ice cream sundae and comped it and the coffee. I could not have had a better time. Our server was attentive, but not intrusive and was very helpful. The ambiance is warm yet modern, with a lot of dark woods but good lighting and booths. The service is consistently among the best of any place in the city. The steaks are carefully prepared and the beef cuts are excellent. Check out the beef tartar starter and the mashed potatoes. I took off one star for size of the sides and some comments from my fellow guests in my party.
The sides were delectable but skimpy for the price, especially for some of my guests who are males. For me the portion was just right, with enough room for desert. However, to be honest, those mashed potatoes did make me wish the portion was a tad more.
Some of my fellow guests complained that they had ordered their steaks medium rare, but it came a little more medium cooked than they wanted.
Overall, 4 out of 5 stars!!! Would I return? Most likely. Would I recommend? We even loved the side of mushrooms that we ordered. We had the bacon wrapped chicken and the lamb. Both were incredibly tender and the flavors came together wonderfully. The only downside is the price. With all the amazing food in San Francisco, it is sometimes hard to justify paying this much for food. I got their "Dinner the Lark Creek Steak way" (or something like that), which was a three course meal: gem wedge salad (bacon, egg, wedge of romaine, blue cheese dressing), a side of mashed potatoes with onion crisps, a 10oz New York strip, and then a caramel topped chocolate mousse. We also received complimentary mushroom soup shots, and an extra dessert (Butterscotch pudding w/ white chocolate)because service was slow.
