  • "L'Appart has created a wonderful oasis in the heart of san anselmo where one can enjoy great food and music on a thursday evening. excellent wines and fine french food accompanied by good service and on a warm night outdoor seating. the place is clean and upscale. the manager is on premises and keeps a watchful eye on things ."

  • "I always felt it was not as good as it's sister le garage but was a close second. Unfortunately the last 2 visits have been disappointing. The servers have never been overly friendly, but we were using a discount voucher and they did not seem happy about it. They tried to up sell us numerous times. Also not great attitude in general. . Made us uncomfortable. , The sardines were good but not great. Steak ok but frites were undercooked. the lovely trout was overwhelmed by too many sundried tomatoes and overcooked snap peas. I really want this restaurant to work because it is a nice spot. I eat at le garage fairly often and think it is very good. L'Appart will be busier of they nail down the food and act nicer to their clients."

  • "This place is in the perfect location but it lacks a vibrant spirit. Our burgers were ok, overcooked and quite small. Overall restaurant looks cute, nice outdoor atmosphere, no music that I noted..I know that French service is a bit different from american but still "friendliness" goes a long way. Even if the servers took the time to pour wine of water for you when the bottles are on the table it would be no sweat off their backs. Could be a gem in the rough if they focused on smiling and making customers feel welcomed."

  • "Perfectly cooked rare steak….which is not easy to find!"

  • "Our meal started with frog legs, small portion, and not spectacular. The veal dish was a small portion and very average. Not worth going back to."

  • "The atmosphere was friendly and casual. The outdoor area is enclosed and is comfortable with heat lamps. In comparison the inside is rather dark. The service was attentive and good although tea was served without a spoon and saucer. The menu was and wine list were small but varied and offered good choices. The onion soup was excellent and squid dish was delicious. The vegetarian burger consisted of two very tiny buns with tiny amounts what might have been good filling but it was too sparse to taste. Over all we had a pleasant experience and will return."

  • "Our family is very fond of this wonderful local gem in San Anselmo. We often choose it for special occasions, even though the ambiance is casual and informal. The food is wonderful, in the best bistro tradition, and the staff is welcoming and always makes us feel at home."

  • "We love L'Appart. This week we needed to eat very early and were alone in the restaurant so it was very quiet! Usually the noise level is moderate. My husband and I split the endive salad with pear, blue cheese, walnuts and a tangy vinaigrett. It was perfectly balanced. The cassolet was the best I have ever had with bits of sausage, pork belly and duck confit. All perfectly done with each distinctive flavor melding with the others. The oxtail ravioli continues to be a favorite for us with a deep rich yet light sauce. The only complaint is that there is not more of it! The waiter choose some very nice French wine which paired very well with our meal. It reminded us of meals we had in rural France. What a treat."

  • "This is a pleasant little restaurant, nothing fancy, with very good food. If you enjoy French food it's definitely worth a visit."

  • "Went on Valentine's day and thought the prix fixe menu was too limited and overpriced. While the restaurant was crowded, the service was worse than expected; very slow and inattentive. The meal was pretty good, but I was definitely not wowed."

  • "This little bistro is the baby sister to Le Garage. It is small and always great! The food is fresh and well prepared and has never disappointed us. We also like the fact that we have never had to wait too long to get seated...we must go at the right time...!"

  • "Very good to excellent dinner at L'Appart Resto. Short-rib ravioli were superb with an excellent sauce. We shared it and it was more than enough for a first course. We followed this with the special rabbit which was an excellent time consuming preparation. There were three different sections of the rabbit--one was a little over cooked. The cassoulet was excellent except that the beans (obviously prepared separately) were way too salty. The selection of meats was perfect and the duck confit was NOT too salty. There were two good house wines by the glass or carafe (500 ml) Both were very good and went very well with the food."

  • "I had the Cassoulet which was OK, not the best. It was a little dried out. The endive salad was great as was the chocolate desert. I would go back,."

  • "This small French Restaurant is comfortable and casual. The service is efficient and the food is delicious. We all had egg dishes and the eggs were perfectly prepared. The quiche the best I have ever eaten. We drove in from West Marin to meet friends from San Francisco. It was worth the drive and we will go again."

  • "My bride and I wanted to go out for some adult food aft she had spent 6 days on grandma duty. We split a great onion soup special - good beef stock and great cheese - and speech had the wild boar Bourgogne and shared tarte tartin. Classic meal for a cool evening. Oh and we each had a glass of that nights house red , a blend from SW France. Fun time!"

  • "Love this place! We are so happy to have this frenchrestaurant in the neighborhood ! We went there on a Monday night and great surprise they were serving raclette as special that night. I loved it, melted cheese, charcuterie and potatoes. What else?? My girlfriend had the flat iron steak with green peppercorn sauce! Yummy. I hear they have a different special every day early in the week! Can't wait to try the next one! Swing by. You'll love it"

  • "The menu offered very French style dishes along with a few more "American" favorites. Service was very attentive, knowledgable and courteous, water glasses refilled promptly, etc. The serving of mussels was very generous, easily 3-4 dozen in delicious broth. The fries were also plentiful, but could have been served hotter. The shared salad of arugula, grapes and persimmons was dressed with a wonderful, slightly sweet dressing and was served in individual dishes. Crusty warm sliced baguette was accompanied by a cube of butter, not the typical paper wrapped restaurant version. Petrale sole was perfectly sized and prepared. Overall a perfect experience, marred only by the frequent barking of a dog one of the patrons had brought with her."

  • "All the folks at L'Appart are very sincere and solicitous. My wife ordered a wild boar dish that arrived in a small Le Creuset Dutch oven. The food just melted in the mouth. I ordered the steak-frites which arrived with a green peppercorn sauced. Very tasty are perfectly cooked. We have eaten here a few times and never had anything less than a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Food tasty, but not worthy of the cost. Surprised restaurant wasn't as crowded as last year. Perhaps food quality has gone down and the regulars gave up?"

  • "It's great to be able to rely on a local restaurant for consistent quality. L'Appart fits that bill. This location has had a number of failed restaurants but these guys seem to have figured out how to make it work. A modest menu of items prepared extremely well. We've never been disappointed."

  • "There is nothing bad about this restaurant, It was just so so. When I go to a French restaurant I want a better experience, better quality of food. Something that I can remember. Nothing stood out. It was very average, very small portions, presentation is great, but the quality was really lacking. Just nothing special about a restaurant of this price range. Better French Bistros in San Francisco for half the price. Would not recommend better restaurants just down the street."

  • "That was our first dinner at Lappart Resto. We had to wait a little because this place was packed on a Saturday night, the bartender/host saved a spot for us at the bar while we were waiting for our table. We didn't have time to finish our drink, the table was ready! Their menu looks really french, escargots, oxtail ravioli, wild boar bourginon, steak frites! The food was amazing! The waiter looked a little grumpy but we have to say that he knows his menu and was really helpful. Fig tart and molten chocolate cake... Do not miss those!!!! Can't wait former next visit! A biento !!"

  • "L'Appart is never a disappointment: the menu adapts to the seasons, adding little gems, such as the stuffed mini pumpkin, to the tried and true favorites, os à moelle and charcuterie. What I particularly like is the variety of appetizers that can be combined for a very tasty and light meal leaving plenty of room for the not-to-be- missed Tatin."
