  • "I love Laporta's and have eaten there many times. One of the reasons I love it is because of its relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Not so during Easter brunch. We arrived before opening and could see that the restaurant had reorganized tables and chairs on both sides so as to maximize every inch of space. Altho it started out relaxed and quiet, it wasn't too long before we found ourselves seated in the middle of a very noisy crowd. It was too overcrowded. I think it's a mistake to overbook a quiet gem like Laporta's just to try to get every penny possible from holiday diners. It's the last time I go there for Easter brunch. That said, I will continue dining there because the food is always perfect and service is typically fantastic."

  • "The hanger steak and Mac and cheese were excellent. The Mac n cheese was a little spicy but it was good! The first hanger hanger steak had to be taken back because we asked for medium rare and ours came back well done. The waiter quickly corrected the problem and apologized. We were there with high school prom dates. It wasn't too noisy. Great ambience and romantic lighting. The whiskey cake was moist and good as well. Excellent customer service!"

  • "For a jazz fan, this place is excellent. The food is high quality, a clear notch above chains like Carlyle's or Coastal Flats. The band size and consequent volume is ideal - not too loud to make conversation challenging, but strong enough for the jazz aficionado. Easy and free parking at the rear, and good service. I'm going there again."

  • "LaPorta's is definitely our neighborhood favorite. A menu full of inspired classics with a respectable bar and live jazz music every night. They have something for everyone, including vegetarian options. Don't miss this beautiful restaurant for your next quiet, special occasion. Oh yes, and absolutely don't skip dessert."

  • "The food was Great! Ambiance was wonderful! Our waiter was Terrific! Lovely piano music! Our group of 9 was delighted -- had an excellent experience until the end. We had asked for separate checks and let them know early on we had another event and an appointment. Apparently they don't have a good system for separate checks because it took over 30 minutes and some confusion from the time we were ready to leave until we were able to get our check, despite the fact there were few others in the dining room. That caused a BIG problem for us because some of us had to leave for another church event and one had an important business appointment. I hope they work out that problem.."

  • "Food was very mediocre, music on Saturday was very nice (jazz trio)."

  • "A great little gem off, just off the typical King Street corridor. Nice vegetarian options, and something special for those that are not. I would highly recommend that you give this restaurant a try."

  • "Service was great, everything else was so-so. Had the calamari to start - fantastic - that was the high point of the meal. BF had the crab cake...to be honest, Silver Diner's crab cake is better (sad trombone sound). I had the sea scallops served over mashed potatoes that were room temperature at best, with 4 or 5 pieces of oversteamed broccoli. The ambience was ok - pretty loud in the restaurant; we had to strain to hear what the other was saying across a 2.5' square table. When the $100 check arrived, we had buyer's remorse...definitely not worth the price tag. We would consider going back, if only for a cocktail and appetizer, while sitting at the bar so we might be able to have a conversation."

  • "food was excellent; presentation outstanding; quiet enough to talk without shouting; service was superior; and we did not feel rushed or hurried. it was an expensive lunch but well worth the money for a long leisure lunch with friends. parking is NOT included but the pricey lunch makes me feel like a cheapskate to even mention the parking fees."

  • "We very much enjoy listening to Sharon sing on Saturday nights. This has quickly become our favorite date night place. The service is wonderful and the food is beyond excellent. We try something new each time and have loved everything. The homemade desserts are fabulous."

  • "The restaurant runs a special on Tuesday nights -2 entrees, and a bottle of wine for $29. We decided to give it a try given the special and that there was a jazz pianist. Selections were limited. I had chicken parm, and my wife enjoyed mani mani that was prepared to perfection. The wine was either a house red or white (Chardonnay). It was a pleasant evening of dining and jazz."

  • "This is one of our favorites in Old Town starting with relatively easy and convenient parking; delicate and delicious food prepared with obviously first class ingredients and beautiful dish and dessert presentations. I have watched this restaurant grow over the years and develop an unique personality of respect to its audience by offering the very best menus at reasonable prices. Their staff looks happy and content, how refreshing! Congratulations to Laporta's team, starting from owners, chefs and servers. We will be back soon! Thank you from our family to yours! Ali"

  • "My husband and I went on a referral to LaPorta's. It was a great night. We both ordered the specials for the evening. I had the scallops with potatoes and chives, brussel sprouts with a warm chili sauce. The scallops were cooked to perfection. The meal size was just perfect. My husband had the surf and turf with gulf shrimp. The steak medallions were cooked to medium and the shrimp were great. He had a side of asparagus. We had a nice view of the neighborhood, as we sat in the bar area. The staff were all friendly and our waiter Calvin was very knowledgeable of the menu items and gave great suggestions for our first time. He suggested a apple cobbler type dessert with cinnamon ice cream and it topped off our night."

  • "My group of 7 women enjoyed the food and entertainer as well as the ambience. The staff confused our group for a smaller one, so we waited until a larger table came available. After bring seated at the appropriate table, we received water and emus, but we're otherwise ignored for about 15 minutes . After I asked for our waiter , the young man I asked left and soon returned prepared to serve our table . After that, the service was fine ."

  • "Laporta's has been our choice for special occasions for more than 20 years. It is wonderful to see that the high quality and class have been consistently maintained all this time. This is a family-run restaurant, with excellent service, a relaxed atmosphere, excellent food, and great live jazz. The desserts are special, and always a perfect ending to a great meal. Highly recommend."

  • "The food was great. I was surprised to see a Sunday Brunch Pre-Fixe Menu :-) The seafood crepe was delicious and so were the Bellinis and Mimosas. Calvin was an attentive and courteous server. Menu items were moderately priced so that was a plus. Overall great experience for my family and I. We will definitely at this restaurant again in the near future."

  • "Loved the experience! Cheese and charcuterie plate was $21 and only had two pieces of meat. I liked the live music. Our service was above par because besides being on top of things service wise, she was really nice and offered to take more than one picture of me and my husband just so we'd have a good one."

  • "While I always enjoy dining at LaPorta's, (and am a regular) this Saturday I was a little disappointed. When I made the reservation for my husband's birthday and as for anything little thing that you do special for birthdays, nothing was done nor mentioned. I requested a table for 4 up front near the trio, that did not happen either, though the table I had was okay. The most disappointing was the waitress and server reached over my husbands plate to put pepper on my plate rather than walking around to me and the same happen with the pouring of water...to me this is totally unacceptable and not the type of service expected from a restaurant of this caliber. Thank you in advance for addressing these disappointments. Maindining57"

  • "Our association's department finds LaPorta's a perfect spot for an occasional lunch when we host visitors or special guests. They deliver in a consistent manner. Salads are consistently tasty with crunchy noodles a perfect topping to a citrus dressing."

  • "Very nice spot for informal but sophisticated dining. Almond-crusted mahi mahi with asparagus and mashed potatoes with chives was presented very well and was delicious. Attentive staff and some live (and cool) jazz selections make this a special date-night evening."

  • "Based on the menu, offer of a jazz band and location, I was confident this would be a good dining experience. We passed the jazz band as we walked in and they sound great. Too bad we couldn't hear them from where we were seated - in a lovely corner, blocked by a weird screen, near a huge LOUD party, by the back door. Even our oil-candle thing wasn't happy - it went out mid-dinner. The food was mediocre - my salmon fettucine had no flavor and the sauce was oily. My friend's dinner was equally "meh". Dessert was okay but the whipped cream was uncomfortably close to being butter. To end on a positive note, our server was very nice; however, I won't be going back."

  • "Requested reservation week in advance for dining room with musicians, but seated in the bar w/ no music. Service very slow, Bruschetta attractive but impractical to eat - most goes in the garbage. Entrees good but overpriced w/o the music - the main reason we go to Laportas. Clearly overbooked, so not returning anytime soon. There are too many places on King St nearby with great food and ambience to tolerate this. When you pay > $130 with tip for dinner for two, you expect far more than we were offered."

  • "Had dinner there on Friday evening with another couple. Food was much better than the last time we had been there. The place has a nice csual atmosphere with an unobtrusive jazz trio playing in the background. Bill for two of us was $166 + tip for two dinners, appetizers, couple of drinks and one dessert. Would recomend for date night or small groups."

  • "Valentine's Day visit with my girlfriend. Service was fantastic, live jazz music was audible but not obtrusive. Vibrant wait staff with smiles and attentiveness. Overall very nice experience. Ordered a pork steak item which was not on the normal menu and it showed. It was under seasoned with a bland sauce and ever so slightly under-cooked. Its only saving grace was the capers(lol). Other than that slight hiccup my date thoroughly enjoyed her dish and the presentation of both was superb."

  • "I went here with my date on Valentine's Day and I must say everything was perfect! The service was great. Our waitress Robin was a great help in answering questions and serving us. The food was out of this world! The Chicken Oscar with Lump Crab and Hollandaise sauce was absolutely scrumptious. Both my date and I enjoyed our meal. The ambience and music were at the perfect level to where it wasn't too loud nor too quiet. I could still hear the person in front of me. I highly recommend to come here whether for the food, music, or the extensive wine list, you will not be disappointed."

  • "Attended their Valentine's special and all went well until the bill, which included a $30 event fee. With tip it ended up a $300 dinner for two. It just wasn't that good."

  • "Superb Valentine's dinners--the chef's selections for their special occasion, 3-course meals were superb. We had called ahead to check on gluten-free substitutes, and the restaurant was very accommodating, indicating that we could select a number of other menu options as substitutes, as necessary. Laporta's is a neighborhood gem, nestled on the lower level in the business district near Duke and Eisenhower. Many couples dressed up for the special evening--the mood and atmosphere was terrific, and the Jazz Trio was outstanding....not to mention their adorable little dog who had the best seat, perched above and behind the musicians. Given the evening, it was packed during our 6:30-8:30 stay. We would definitely go back."
