  • "The courtesy extended to us was more than the norm and much appreciated. I had sent invitations to our group for a 7:30 pm dinner instead of the actual 5:30 pm reservations. A major typo, especially for a birthday celebration and guests could not be there before 7:30. I found this out at the very last minute, called Lalimes explaining the situation with apologies and the hostess, initially very concerned because she had called prior to make sure we were still on and which I had confirmed, then said that she would make it work tho' sounding a trifle anxious, but in no case upset at me or not willing to do something for us. She made it happen and when we arrived greeted us positively and courteously. A very pleasant dinner for all."

  • "The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. The noise level, even in a "quiet room" is very high when the restaurant is busy (ie. most of the time) and made things a little uncomfortable. It's a "happening place", especially on a Saturday night, as when I last was there."

  • "We have enjoyed Lalime's for many years - for birthdays and anniversaries. We love the simplicity, the ambiance, the service, and the values. Unfortunately we have been a little disappointed our last two visits: recently we both chose the ravioli based on the waiter's wonderful description, however, we found it "rubbery" and the flavors not nearly what we have come to enjoy and expect. In a previous visit (last September) we brought friends visiting from Australia - who are gourmet chefs, and were excited to "show off" one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Unfortunately on that occasion none of our meals was of the quality and delight we had previously experienced, and the service was indifferent. We were so disappointed....."

  • "we have eaten there many times. Food this time was less good than in the past, halibut was barely cooked and tough, cauliflower had refrigerator taste. Wine was good, as were the crab cakes. Food quality seems to be erratic, maybe chef has changed?"

  • "We visited Lalimes to celebrate my sister's birthday and loved our meal. The food was outstanding. Calamari, oysters, halibut, mussels were all amazingly prepared. We look forward to our next trip to the East Bay to return for another great meal. Service was also outstanding."

  • "We met friends at LaLime's on Saturday night. It was our first time there but it certainly won't be out last. We had a charming waiter who was there when we needed him but was careful not to interrupt or hover. The food was excellent and reasonably priced for a restaurant of its caliber. Our husbands each ordered apple crisp and the ladies were going to forgo dessert until we took the first bite. iIt was wonderful. Lalime's has great food, service and it is quiet enough to carry on a conversation. I highly recommend it."

  • "We have been going to Lalime's for special occasions for about 10 years now, and it is still a great little restaurant off the beaten track. The ambiance is good, comfortable and relaxing and the service was not hovering but there when you needed them. I had the special, quail stuffed with feva beans and mushrooms. The quail was fine, but a little bland. My wife had the Loster Roll which she found good but nothing special. The cocktails were very good and arrived at our table relatively quickly and the desserts were quite good although the selection is skewed towards ice cream dishes. Considering the reasonable bill we will keep Lalimes on our list of local cafe, but perhaps not so much for special occasions."

  • "Thursdays they're have a special menu with optional wine pairing. It was excellent, except we were required to have all three courses and could not have only the main course with other starters and deserts. Food was excellent, Wien service was great. Didn't look at wine list as we brought our own wine. Service was very good. Not to noisy, really like this place. Highly recommended."

  • "We have been visiting LaLimes since it opened on Solano. We have taken many new people there and the standards have not dropped. We go 2-3 times a year. This week we had a very good time - with one out of town friend and another Berkeley friend who didn't know Lalimes. Service was excellent, flexible, didn't mind our sharing and having two appetizers rather than entrees. Wine list was good and we had a excelent Portuguese wine from the Alentejo.."

  • "Lalime's is an old favorite for a special occasion and once more did not disappoint on the occasion of my wife's recent birthday dinner. The vibe is pure North Berkeley: relaxed but with skilled attention to detail. We had Tomales oysters that tasted fresh from the sea, a beet and arugula salad--a staple of local fine restaurants, but particularly well done here--sweetbreads in a tangy Provençal-style tomato sauce, and a perfectly prepared pork loin chop that showed up with a pair of ribs. The wine list is well-chosen; we settled on a French Sauvignon Blanc that was clean and flavorable, with just enough of a tart edge to play well against our varied menu. A perfect date."

  • "It was fairly busy when we arrived. there was a party ahead of us, but it took a few minutes too long to have them seated and then us. The hostess was nowhere to be seen for at least five minutes, maybe more. But.... once we were seated, the waitress seemed stressed. We asked for oyster shooters which were on the website for Sunday night special. She said if it isn't on the menu we don't have it. But it wasn't on the menu and the website had it. She went to ask, and said yes and we got them. We ordered drinks after that and they didn't come until after our main course was served. The bar was backed up and that was not good to get our drinks after the main course, and I had to say something before getting them. an unusual experience"

  • "We eat here about once a quarter, when we visit the East Bay. The décor, ambiance and service are great. The food is sometimes hit and miss. This most recent meal, the food was below the restaurant's standard. The chicken was a little overcooked and salty ----even though we asked the waiter to specify "low salt:". The fish soup was a little bland."

Wonderful food and particularly good vegetables--generous portions for the price. We split several dishes; without asking, the server brought them back already halved on two plates. We were not so wowed by the main courses on this visit, but overall it's still an excellent choice: the main room is beautiful and welcoming, the service professional but friendly and the food flavors fresh and interesting.   • "This was my first time at Lalimes and it was top notch on all accounts. It is on the expensive side. Dinner for two with drinks, wine, and dessert was $150.00. The noise level got to be a bit high at peak dinner hour, but not too bad. Very nice decor, and a wonderful bar to just relax at if you aren't that hungry."

  • "Was disappointed in the limited menu. Soup was delish, burger dry/overcooked. Others in party enjoyed their selections. Our server was very nice - he told us he was new but did not hesitate to find an answer if he didn't have one. appreciated that we were not rushed. However, at times the service was sluggish. Did not like receiving one dessert way before all the others. We have matinee season tickets to B.Rep and always do dinner after. However, when a restaurant does not open until 5 p.m. sometimes our choices are limited. This is especially true when the play is short and we have too much time before 5 p..m."

  • "I ordered Wild Steelhead ,Cod, and Mussel Bourride potato, root vegetables, aioli and my wife had the prixe fixe for the day, of which the piece de resistance was a tasty, tender small steak. We were celebrating 20th wedding anniversary. Lalime's is a special occasion celebration place. Very nicely located in our neighborhood. 10 min walk from our Evelyn Ave home. For the quality of service and food, our $100 tab for 2 with wine + beer was reasonable. Quantity was ample. Flaw: interior noise level at dinner time was annoying. I think dining at past peak dinner time would improve the dining experience, say 7:30 seating."

  • "Our experience was disappointing after years of good and sometimes great, food at this comfortable place. Evidently their chef of the last few years was no longer there. The mussels were very good but our other dishes were not up to Lalime's quality by a long shot. A lamb shank was too fatty and the fish stew was under seasoned and was mostly potatoes. Even the gelato was not up to par. At least their wines were still very well chosen. I hope they get back on track soon for they are very nice people. I can still taste the fabulous squab I had there once, as well as the escargot, the chicken liver mousse, a butterscotch dessert, etc. At least their wines were still very well chosen."

  • "You won't find much unique in this place. That said, your date probably won't knock you for it either. The food was fairly well done. I thought $70 a plate was a bit much for the prix fixe Valentine's Day menu. Although, a bottle of Fort Ross Pinot Noir was a fair price. Service was good when it was there, but like a lot of places waned when the meal was coming to a close. I would come back, if after trying several other east bay spots, this makes the top ten. Bay Wolf did a better job last week, and Haven is always a complete pleasure."

  • "We have been to Lalime's many times; it is our top choice for special dinners including Valentine's, a birthday dinner for two and celebrations of a life victory. The food has always been excellent. It is sophisticated in that it goes beyond what we would do at home, even though we enjoy cooking and experimenting. The management must be intelligent because its staff is uniformly efficient, informed and polite without being pushy or overly solicitous. The waiters also respond quickly to small, reasonable requests (such as bringing olive oil for the bread to replace the butter). We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant."

  • "This restaurant used to be a Berkeley gem-- great food, good service, and a personal touch to make diners feel welcome for future visits. On this occasion, the entree came out cold, the service showed indifference (along with no explanation of the dishes), and made our decision not to return an easy one. We were seated near the bar, where we could hear staff complaining all night, rather than serving diners. My empty glass of water was my companion through much of the meal. There are far too many good restaurants in the area to waste time, money, and calories here. Adieu, Lalime's."

  • "I have been to Lalime's twice now, once on a random Friday and once for Valentines day. The service was great on both occasions, but the food was a bit hit or miss. The first time we ordered from the normal menu and I got a pork steak while my wife got the lamb and both were delicious! The prix fix left me was not very good. It was ok, but left me feeling like I paid too much for what I got. I will try them again, but just on a normal day, not a holiday."

  • "We've eaten at Lalime's several times and always have a nice meal. The Valentine's Day prix fixe meal was no exception. My husband and I are pescatarians, and we were very pleased that there was a fish and a veggie option, so we didn't have to make a special request. My only complaint is that the lobster tail I ordered was very, very small. It was delicious but the portion really was just way too small for an entree. Fortunately my husband's portion of the Winter Vegetables au Gratin was quite sizeable, so he was able to share with me. Other than that, great meal!"
