Diner Reviews
  • "We travel a lot and this was one of the best meals we have had in years. The duck confit was sublime and the Coq au Vin distinctive. The wine list was excellent too. I would go to Cleveland in the winter again just to eat here again."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant for any occasion! We have been there several times and each time the food, service, and atmosphere are all excellent. Our granddaughter attends Case Western University so we will have the pleasure of many dining experiences at L'Albatros!!"

  • "The outdoor patio was open. We ate indoors but sat at a window and loved the sparkle of the lights and candles insdie and out. The food was wonderful and the staff was very attentive to our dietary needs. A beautiful evening!"

  • "Overall experience was wonderful. The food was so good we thought about it later that night, wanting more. Cute outdoor patio if one wants to sit outside. The only downside was the staff while half were wonderful, some were a little rude."

  • "This looks like a casual brasserie but it has elegant food. An appetizer of seared giant sea scallps entree was served with brussel sprouts, noodles & pernod cream topped with shaved parmesan cheese. The juicy layers of flavors all mixed together to form an ecstatic level of creamy rich flavorful fluffy scallops. We emjoyed the "French Toast" This flavorful dish has soft toast points smothered in a ragout of sauteed wild mushrooms in a warm balsamic syrup. It is savory with a tart sweet after bite. This explosion of flavors has to be tasted to be believed - glorious. We ordered an appetizer of Mussels immersed in a garlic, white wine, buttery sauce. They were soft, creamy & dripping with flavor and yes the pomme frits were crisp & hot."

  • "Great food. Great service. Guests were thrilled with experience."

  • "All the food at L'Albatros was wonderful. The staff was very attentive and continued to bring bread, dipping oil and beverages. Had the razor clams for an appetizer. Entrees were osso buco, roast chicken, duck confit, and the goat cheese. All were very good. The restaurant was very busy and loud for a Thursday night. We hope to go again in the summer when we can sit outside."

  • "Very extensive menu - everything our party of four had was great (and we did a lot of sharing). The cod with spaetzl and sauerkraut sounded a bit sketchy of a combination to me, at first, but it was delicious. The waiter was exceptional - very knowledgeable and helpful. I also recommend the "French toast" - a savory appetizer with wild mushrooms. Our waiter was very helpful - knowledgeable about the menu and able to describe things very effectively. For the quality of the food, the prices here are very reasonable."

  • "We had a 6:00 reservation. It was my son's birthday and he chose the restaurant. We have been there before and normally recommend it. This time, not so much. The orders included three hangar steak with pomme frittes. The food took more than an hour to arrive. Two of the orders were for 'medium' and they arrived blood-red. We sent them back. Obviously the chef then took the same already-sliced meat and broiled it to death. It was tough and over-cooked When we complained again, the meals were all comped... but honestly I would rather have paid for a birthday meal that we enjoyed. The orchestra was playing that night and it was pretty obvious that the service was a mess due to that."

  • "Great venue for after orchestra. Still hopping when we arrived as opposed to some places that would be closing up by 10:00. Close by to Severance and good parking. Spent our time at the bar and noise level was good for conversaiton. Had wonderful service."

  • "L'Albatros always delivers impeccable food, service and atmosphere. Their patio/courtyard is second to NONE! Highly recommend for any and every occasion!"

  • "Often the Bar gets overlooked. We had a lovely meal at the bar. The service was attentive but not overwhelming. My friends first experience with the legendary cheese board was reason enough to stop in. However, the meal was equally fantastic."

  • "It's nice knowing when you're taking another couple out to a place they haven't been that is going to be a success. And that's the way dining at L'Albatros is. It's an easy place to go. Quality of food and service is great. On the East side of Cleveland I find that the prices are actually lower than many other places of similar level. I made myself not get the cassoulet because it seems I always order it so I got the veal short rib and was not disappointed. Served on a bed of risotto made for a great meal. I recommended the cassoulet to someone else and , of course, it was excellent. I also ordered two frisee salads for 4 so the others could enjoy what I consider the best salad in Cleveland. Do not hesitate to visit ! ! !"

  • "Our duck confit and veal short ribs were delicious. The wine specials were excellent. Our server Sharon was very knowledgeable and professional, a part of the pleasure of a very enjoyable dining experience."

  • "Consistently high quality food, very capable service including cheese and wine service. Inventive and varied menu doesn't change too much, but hey, it is inventive and varied, so who cares!?"

  • "I ordered the Wed. special of seared Veal breast. After a very long wait, the meal finally came. There was so much gristle that I could not cut it with my knife.I ate about one half my meal. After the other three people at our table were almost done, the waiter finally showed up to ask how are meals were.At this point, I refused the offer of another meal since it would take to long"

  • "Service was impecable! The dinner was served nice and hot! Not a crumb of food was left on our plates! I have already recommended your restaurant to two of our friends since our dining experience. This was truly the place to dine to celebrate our daughter's birthday. She'll remember her special day for a long time to come! Thank you!"

  • "There should be a sixth star for the service. It was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Oh, and the food was fantastic too. We were planning a return visit during dessert. What a great place."

  • "Good location if going to Severence Hall. Service was slow although I don't think that was necessarily the fault of our server. They seemed a little understaffed for a Friday night. Good food... I would go back"

  • "I love this restaurant. Everything is terrific, from the warm hello the minute you walk in, to a wait staff ratio that ensures excellent service, and of course the terrific food. Such a joy. Everything is perfectly cooked, the service is impeccable, the atmosphere is stark yet cozy. Great wine list not to mention the innovative house drinks. Perfect for a special occasion too"

  • "L'Ablatros is our new favorite restaurant in Cleveland. We have had dinner here several times and also sat at the bar for drinks and every visit has been wonderful. The food is some of the best in Cleveland with larger portions than some other well ranked restaurants. For a special occasion, L'Albatros is a must. The service is great; you will feel like a VIP while dining here."

  • "The server was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious--my only complaint was that the olive oil for dipping the bread had no garlic or seasoning in it. I'm not crazy about the decor--it's too contemporary for my taste. I prefer a homier atmosphere. I also don't appreciate paying to park. But the food is so good that we will go back. (This was our 3rd visit.)"

  • "Smoked salmon served with Texas Toast...awful! And the server tried to justify it."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "Our table service was incredible - the server was attentive and pleasant. She took the time to personally escort me to the restroom and frequently visited the table to inquire if we needed anything. She's a keeper. Unfortunately, I don't recall her introducing herself & there was no name tag."

  • "We are from northern Michigan and were visiting our granddaughter, a student at Case, and her younger sister who was visiting from CT. We wanted a special place and they recommended L'Albatros. The food, French toast appetizer and sword fish entre, were out of this world. Although the noise level was high, we thought the evening was lovely. We were not disappointed in any way."

  • "Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere. I probably wouldn't recommend it for groups over four, as the restaurant is rather compact and intimate. Other than that, just excellent."

  • "Four of us celebrated three birthdays on a recent Thursday night. Everything about the evening was spectacular: the food, the wine, the service. While not in our typical dining out price range, the experience was well worth it. Don't miss the cheese board appetizer...and the knowledgeable person who describes them. We had a range of meals from vegetarian to the duck confit and all were perfect."

  • "My girlfriend got unforgettable time in the restaurant!"
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "This is one of our favorites....the menu has so many delicious choices - from cocktails to dessert! The cheese monger was great and very knowledgeable.....and all options so wonderful! The restaurant was very accommodating with providing a gluten-free bread. The service was very good and the food was just perfect - fresh, crisp salads, cassoulet, steak, frites! We loved the warm brownie dessert - rich and dreamy!"

  • "Have been three times, and it's consistently good; food is solid, if not special, portion sizes are great for price, wine list is very good (even for big wine lovers), service is snappy and friendly, the cheese "cart" is the best I've ever seen, with about 20 options. I have an issue with the service, and the placement of the host stand, but these are overshadowed by everything else, mostly."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "No resting on their laurels here. The service remains impeccable. The bartenders make great drinks and conversation (without intruding) and the wait staff continues to impress with their knowledge (especially noticeable on the extensive cheese offerings) and pace. The place has several different rooms, each with their own unique atmosphere. Some of the most attractive ambient lighting in town. Prices are more than reasonable for what you receive. Top notch for virtually any occasion."

  • "What a great dinner! We went for my friend's birthday and had amazing food and an overall great dining experience. The French Toast appetizer was delicious and so unique. I would come back for that dish alone. The wine list was intimidating but our server was very knowledgable and helped us make a decision on a fantastic Beaujolais. I will be back soon!"

  • "Prepare to sit VERY close to the table next to you and for noise levels to be ironically loud. The bread was not worth the carbs, and we were pretty sure the olive oil was spoiled. There is a very good selection of wines and a decent selection of beers. They also had some specialty drinks, one of which I chose. I ordered the Pork Two Ways and my wife order the Confit of Chicken Flatbread. The pork belly that came with my dinner was VERY good. I wish there was more of it, though. The majority of my meal was breaded cauliflower. My wife's pizza was tasty to me, however she found it to be bland. After we had ordered we found out there were a few dinner specials that our waiter didn't let us know were available. We gave it a try."

  • "If you want to know what fine dining should be come to L'Albatros. It's a lovely setting, with attentive staff and excellent food. A bit more quaint than some of the downtown choices we have to offer in Cleveland. My one criticism is the head hostess was almost overly inspecting of her staff, flying in and out of the dinning room as if inspecting their every move."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "I have always heard great things about L'Albatros and decided to go there with my boyfriend or my birthday. Rarely does this happen when I hear glowing reviews of a place as expectations get raised- it was everything that was built up and more. The food and wine, service, and ambience all made for an incredibly memorable birthday experience!"

  • "L'Albratros is our go-to restaurant when we are entertaining out-of-town company. Monday night was no disappointment. I love the lively atmosphere and continental menu. Our coq au vin was scrumptious and our guests seemed to enjoy their trout and salmon entrees."
