A word from Lake Street Kitchen + Bar
Lake Street Kitchen + Bar serves an eclectic menu that is farm-to-table, seasonal, fresh, and homemade every day of the week offering lunch/brunch, dinner, and late night dining. The menu offerings come from a melting pot of influences--like the diversity of the restaurant's Oak Park community--and range from American comfort food to Mediterranean, Cajun to Italian, Basque to Spanish. The menu changes with the seasons to offer food at its peak flavor.

Chef Jason Kurosaki leads the kitchen. During his impressive culinary career, Chef Jason has worked for three James Beard award-winning chefs and one best restaurateur nominee.

The seasonal food menu is accompanied by a unique line up of beer, wine and cocktails. The beer offerings include local and craft beers on tap and many more in bottles and some cool retro cans. The wine list offers a variety by the glass and bottle and includes wines from several organic and biodynamic vineyards.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very good. The service was friendly but a little slow."

  • "This place is too noisy. It was hard to have a conversation inside. Other than the one flatbread we ordered, the other two items were terrible. Inedible even. Both had to be sent back to the kitchen. We placed another order for a flatbread. The flatbreads are great, but I would be afraid to order anything else from the menu. Maybe the menu is too ambitious for the kitchen staff to handle. They should concentrate on making the flatbreads. The waitress was very pleasant, and handled the situation well. If it were not for the flatbread, I would give this restaurant only one star. We were looking forward to a nice dining experience, but were greatly disappointed. Sorry to have to give a thumbs down, but we definitely will not be coming back."

  • "This restaurant usually exceeds my expectations. Even when they are busy they seem glad to see me. The sidewalk cafe is delightful."

  • "I think we reserved a time that was a bit too early 5:15 on Friday because the staff was not quite ready. Overall it was good but next time no kids."

  • "I met three friends for a birthday celebration on a Saturday night. I was pleased to find it was large enough that it didn't feel crowded and the noise level was just right for carrying on a conversation. Ambiance was nice and so were the staff. Food was tasty and priced reasonably. I particularly recommend the flatbreads."

  • "The food at Lake Street is amazing! Great flavors and fresh ingredients right down to the coleslaw. The food is expensive (About $30 per person if you don't order a cocktail), but it is very flavorful. At times, service was a little slow, but the server was energetic and accommodating. Lastly, we ordered a meat and cheese board ($29), and were a little disappointed at the amount of each item we chose. The meat and cheeses were quality, and certainly worth the cost, but be prepared for small portions if you order a board. Overall, the restaurant is great. Quite yummy and unique!"

  • "Had the Mussels special. Tasty, but a relatively small portion and no salad, etc. included. A bit pricey for a small bowl of tiny mussels!"

  • "The food was amazing and subtle ways the flavors in some of the dishes work together worth a repeat visit. A warning to date night types looking for a spot to converse though...this place is LOUD on a Friday night when packed. That would maybe keep us from visiting again when it's busy."

  • "Being the silly man that I am, I waited to book a reservation on the day of valentine's day. Not smart. However, I decided to use Opentable to see what was still available. I happened upon lake street bar and grill. My wife and I had eaten here once before on an afternoon when it was slow. It was also during lent and my wife had given up cheese (they have a great charcuterie) so it wasn't the best experience. However, for this valentine's day it was a truly awesome experience. They had our table reserved by name and we were sat immediately. The service was great considering how busy it was. This place is a bar and restaurant and both were hopping on valentine's day. Service was still good. The food tasted great. A+ experience."

  • "Interesting menu good food expensive by contrast to other venues locally in Oak Park area"

  • "A lively atmosphere, despite there being a snow storm that night. The staff was wonderful, accommodating and friendly. I enjoyed the veggie chili and my date had the soup, which were both great."

  • "I took a couple friends from the city to Lake Street Kitchen + Bar for dinner on an early dinner. They had a good table for 6 of us, but it was under some direct lights that got VERY hot. Several times my co-diners remarked how warm it was. We had some wine flights and beer. The drinks took some time, but the waitress explained them well. We had a selection of flatbreads, lamb sliders, salad, and lentil quinoa cakes. Everyone certainly liked the food, but I felt the quinoa cake was a little overpriced for what you got at $11. Overall, the food was good, and I'd go back, but not race there."

  • "I ate all over Oak Park and this place is the best by far!"

  • "I want to like this place. I have had perfectly fine lunches here and the service is always friendly and prompt. The ambience is just right mix of neighborhood and trendy with a mix of tables, Craft brews, and hip staff, however I have found the dinner entres lack the right flavors to make the food noteworthy. A good place if you want a drink and some flatbread or a cheese plate but not worth going out of your way for dinner."

  • "Our main meat dish was served cold when it should have been hot... If it was cooked before our other dishes at least put it under a heating lamp. Wine/beer selection was nice. Lighting was weird and kept changing throughout the duration of the meal. Server was friendly. Inquired about birthdays as it was a special dinner celebration however there was nothing special done by this venue which was a bit disappointing."

  • "I met someone at Lake Street Kitchen + Bar for a business lunch, and while we both enjoyed our food very much, the noise level was extremely loud. It was difficult to talk for quite a while until things calmed down after about an hour. We both had the flatbread lunch combo, and were impressed with the food and the service. I was also impressed with the beer and wine list, and plan to return soon -- but not in a business context. It feels like a fun place to come in the evenings with friends for drinks and bar food, due to the extensive craft beer menu, as well as a good place to watch sports."

  • "Server was lovely; very friendly and efficient. Staff accommodated moving tables due to a very fussy child next to us. Food was good though not as good as past visits. Must depend who is creating the flatbreads. Out of most popular ice cream, Chocolate Peanut Butter (stock more!). I will likely go back because it's in my neighborhood but my friend has already made other requests for her next visit. It's a good place; please stay on top of things management!"

  • "Lake Street Kitchen + Bar provides consistently decent food and solid drinks. Their food is nothing special or memorable, but it'll do when you're hanging out with family or friends for dinner and drinks. Their drinks are better than the food. Service can be hit or miss depending on your server. I've found that Noelle and Ronald (?) are especially good and noticeably different from others. In fact, I would go out of my way to be seated in their sections. There have also been a couple times that Lake Street Kitchen + Bar reported that I was a no-show when I was actually 15 minutes early and spent tons of money while I was there. I've also been given attitude by certain staff members when I was minding my own business."

  • "I mean, this place is okay. It's got solid food and drinks. Buuuut... the seats aren't always clean or very comfortable. The service is hit or miss. The food is okay. Not for foodies, but it's not a dive either."

  • "Really enjoyed this place. The weather was so nice, we could eat outside."

  • "Great food, with a twist. Nice bar scene also. Staff is great, ask for Jay, on top of his game. Nice place to people watch and relax."

  • "Me and my wife dined here and were not excited! The best thing about our trip was the flat bread. However the rack of lamb was not seasoned good and the cuts were awful. My beer was room temperature at best!! The waiter did not care telling me "we'll you can't taste the flavor if its too cold" Really? That's the best you can say? Last time I checked men enjoy Ice cold beer. Save your money and time."
    Dined on 6/5/2013
  • "I find the dinner menu to really lack substance but the flatbreads are a solid option."
    Dined on 5/24/2013
  • "This was our first visit to Lake Street Kitchen and Bar, but certainly not our last! We both enjoyed our perfectly prepared seafood dishes--grilled baby octopus, and sea scallops. The sea scallops, served with fresh peas and pea sprouts, as well as pureed sun choke, was exceptional: I ate everything on my plate. The octopus, often found overcooked in restaurants, was beautifully prepared and seasoned. The whole evening was delicious!"

  • "We had a fantastic waiter - he waited on us another time we were there and he actually remembered our drink order this time!"
    Dined on 4/20/2013
  • "Interesting menu, with a lot of variety. Good specials on wine. A great place to go when we just don't feel like cooking and don't want a huge production of a meal!"

  • "Everything about Lake Street Kitchen and Bar was wonderful."
    Dined on 4/17/2013
  • "We made a reservation last minute, and although there was not space when we arrived, we were welcomed and enjoyed a drink while we waited for a table. We shared everything we ordered, and our server did a great job of phasing the food. We didn't feel rushed at all but didn't wait long for anything either."
    Dined on 3/9/2013
  • "Loved the food ant the atmosphere! A 'foodie' twist on comfort food :) caught up with a high school friend I hadn't seen in 20 years - we sat and talked for hours and never felt rushed."
    Dined on 3/1/2013
  • "A great neighborhood standby - we always come here with guests. The menu isn't that exciting, but the food is continuously good quality and prepared well. And the chocolate hazelnut torte is divine!"

  • "Another gem in Oak Park which is no stranger to energetic upscale restaurants. My Valentines Night was awesome and my girlfriend loved the food."
    Dined on 2/14/2013
  • "I really like this place. It's in a convenient location, the wait-staff is great and the atmosphere is where I want it to be. There is also a decent craft-beer selection and the food is good as well. What else is there?"
    Dined on 2/1/2013
  • "Third time dining here, all have been very good. First time for dinner, expanded menu beyond the stellar flatbread pizza's and panini's did not disappoint. Pork Loin was good, although a bit overpriced."
    Dined on 12/21/2012
  • "A bit overpriced for the quality of the food that you get. The chalkboard beer menu was not updated, and I noticed similar lack of attention to the website."
    Dined on 11/10/2012
  • "Our first visit to this restaurant. We liked it, however there was a mixup with the order that had to be corrected. The food was good and the cost was ok, too. We like coming to Oak Park and will likely come back."
    Dined on 9/16/2012
  • "Sitting outside on a lovely evening on Lake St in Oak Park. What could be better? Good food, good service with no "hovering," reasonable prices, and a menu that's perfect for a group of six to order food that can be shared around the table."
    Dined on 8/17/2012
  • "The cocktails were interesting and delicious. The waiter was knowledgable and helpful and the food pretty good, especially the prosciutto flatbread. But it was a Saturday night and it was DEAD inside. We were the only table inside. Outside was full, so if the weather had been bad, the interior atmosphere would have been much more lively."
