Diner Reviews
  • "The atmosphere was intimate with candlight and quiet. My rainbow trout was wonderful with vegetables that were and incredible paring with the trout. Shrimp and grits were very good but not as impressive as the trout. Fresh strawberry cobbler was wonderful. Drinks were on the pricey side but were good. Overall, a great dining experience."

  • "A most welcoming place to eat. Your night starts with a warm welcome by Josh. Food is consistently wonderful. Great wine list, great specials, local farm to table veggies. Do not skip desert!"

  • "I cherish the place...a regular activity when in the area. A high point when we have guests... The menu is excellent but beginning to feel unchanged as the years go by. The overall experience remains in tune with the location. Congratulations."

  • "We always enjoy dining at the Lake Rabun Hotel. It's such a special experience in such a wonderful location. The pimiento cheese fritters are reason enough to go there. And of course, it doesn't hurt to go outside to pet the resident kitties who are so sweet and affectionate. Josh does a great job in keeping things running smoothly. Marsha and Bob McOsker"

  • "Our kids gave us a gift certificate for Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant. We opted for dinner and let me say, we were not disappointed. It was wonderful! We had Salmon and Trout...super delicious! We want to go back for an overnight stay. This little secret is tucker away in a cove on Lake Rabun, and totally worth the drive!"

  • "The restaurant ambience was great and our server was very good however you shouldn't have to wait 35 minutes to get your entrée. The food quality was very good. We enjoyed the red fish, salmon and filet once it arrived. Hopefully the Chef will figure out how to properly staff the kitchen."

  • "I took my fiancé to the restaurant for her birthday. We had a reservation for 7:15, arrived at 7:05 and were told we wouldn't be seated until our reservation time. We sat at the bar but weren't seated until 7:25 even though there were many tables available. Dinner was very good although the wait was considerable. Overall we were pleased with the quality of the food. Our waiter was very attentive."

  • "We were very disappointed at how long it took us to get dinner. There was only a handful of customers and it took over 30 minutes for my salad, then another 15 till the entrees were served. Had to ask our server when it would be ready, she said 5 more minutes and it took 10. If you are going to have a top chef, I would hope the kitchen would be able to get food on tables faster. I had company from out of town and purposely chose LR rather than going someplace closer. By the end of the evening I was apologizing to my friends and embarrassed at how long it took....our waitress didn't seem to care, which was bothersome...food was ok, but by the time it arrived our bubble had burst and we just wanted to eat and leave."

  • "So delicious!!! My favorite items on the menu were the corn fritters, the scallops, and the peach tiramisu!"

  • "waiter forgot water, asked if we wanted dessert before dinner served, warm wine(red should be 60-63), loud, other guests too casually dressed. Service just poor. Quality of food was good. Won't be back."

  • "We are always well taken care of at the Lake Rabun Inn Restaurant. Chef Ryan is exceptionally talented and creative. The food is always good and interesting. Particularly important to me is that the food is usually locally grown. We will definitely return"

  • "I have traveled all over the US and europe. The last time I remember a meal so perfectly served, executed and conceived by a chef was in Rome,Italy just off the Piazza Narvona. To start at the end, the local blackberries, and rhubarb tart with basil infused on a cornmeal biscuit was genius. The pork chop I had was almost 3 inches thick...and from a local butcher fresh and tender caramelized just a little on the outside. The smoked potato hash mixed with mountain local grown corn was like eating candy. Chef Ryan is truly just....no other word will do...he is naturally gifted, classically trained which I think he didn't even need...a prince to work with. This is a diamond stuck in the mountains between hemlocks and rhododendron."

  • "I made reservations through Open Table very easily. We have not been to the Lake Rabun area, & enjoyed the drive from Western North Carolina. We really enjoyed the quaintness of the restaurant & the hotel . The interior had a lodge look. We sat on the enclosed deck & liked the rustic wood. We had the cranberry & walnut salad & pan seared sea scallops--delicious & very interesting flavors & textures. Loved the Flourless chocolate cake for dessert. The service staff was attentive. The grounds were well kept & the landscape was lush. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere & plan to return."

  • "We had a wonderful time and the food was awesome. We arrived early and sat at the bar. The atmosphere was warm and rustic. The service was pretty good. The food was really delicious I had the soft shell crab. I wasnt crazy about the artichoke dip it was too watery. But the other appetizer was good. I recommend trying lake rabun hotel."

  • "This was our first trip after hearing great reviews for several years. However, the chef that had been getting great reviews was gone. The new chef was good, but less than stellar. In particular, the crawfish bisque had an intense, unidentifiable flavor somewhere between scorched chocolate and coffee. Not much crawfish flavor left. Chicken was good, beef was undercooked on one side, bread was so so. Service was good. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation and did not get a great table."

  • "The food at Lake Rabun Hotel is not pretentious. The flavor of the food reflectes the natural ingredients they use and the talent of the chefs. Anything you eat sounds and looks familiar but the flavor is elevated because they use local ingredients. "

  • "Great little gem of a restaurant/bar on Lake Raburn. Fresh, "nouvellle" food with a focus on local ingredients. The local trout is especially good. Bar is small, but serves traditional and modern cocktails. Worth a visit, for sure."

  • "The food preparation was outstanding at Lake Rabun Hotel. The choices on the menu were very appropriate. The ambiance was refreshing and invigorating. Service was poor. Servers lacked basic serving skills, mixed orders, and brought entrees without all of the food items. Based on my experience, this restaurant is definitely worth a dining try as long as you do not expect much in the way of fine dining table service."

  • "All was good, food, service, ambience and of course the scenery, being our 31st anniversary we felt this would be a special evening since it all started 31 years on the docks of Lake Rabun and it was, the only issue we encountered was you ran out of crawfish after we received our 1st portion, not a big deal but a concern, plenty of shrimp thou, but Thanks again for a nice evening."

  • "We had a reservation for 7:00 at were sat promptly when we arrived. Food was delicious - I had the crab cakes & my husband had the shrimp & grits. For dessert we had strawberry shortcake - very happy with our meals! A lot of wine choices & a full bar...no cider beer though, only tiny complaint. Hope to go back!"

  • "We chose a weekend getaway to the Lake Rabun Hotel and Restaurant based on a favorable on line review. We found the review to be spot on. The hotel was small and charming and we found the restaurant to be spectacular. The menu is not vast but covers all the category basics and is based on a local farm to table philosophy. We dined there on two consecutive nights and both meals were excellent. The fist night my wife had blackend Drum and I had seared scallops. Both dishes were served with very creative side dishes prepared using local mixed greens. The second evening I ordered a slow cooked pork shoulder served over local sun chokes and my wife chose shrimp and grits. Our desert was a very rich buttermilk pie. A great experience!"
