  • "I have traveled all over the US and europe. The last time I remember a meal so perfectly served, executed and conceived by a chef was in Rome,Italy just off the Piazza Narvona. To start at the end, the local blackberries, and rhubarb tart with basil infused on a cornmeal biscuit was genius. The pork chop I had was almost 3 inches thick...and from a local butcher fresh and tender caramelized just a little on the outside. The smoked potato hash mixed with mountain local grown corn was like eating candy. Chef Ryan is truly just....no other word will do...he is naturally gifted, classically trained which I think he didn't even need...a prince to work with. This is a diamond stuck in the mountains between hemlocks and rhododendron."

  • "I made reservations through Open Table very easily. We have not been to the Lake Rabun area, & enjoyed the drive from Western North Carolina. We really enjoyed the quaintness of the restaurant & the hotel . The interior had a lodge look. We sat on the enclosed deck & liked the rustic wood. We had the cranberry & walnut salad & pan seared sea scallops--delicious & very interesting flavors & textures. Loved the Flourless chocolate cake for dessert. The service staff was attentive. The grounds were well kept & the landscape was lush. We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere & plan to return."

The food was really delicious I had the soft shell crab. I wasnt crazy about the artichoke dip it was too watery. But the other appetizer was good. I recommend trying lake rabun hotel."

  • "This was our first trip after hearing great reviews for several years. However, the chef that had been getting great reviews was gone. The new chef was good, but less than stellar. In particular, the crawfish bisque had an intense, unidentifiable flavor somewhere between scorched chocolate and coffee. Not much crawfish flavor left. Chicken was good, beef was undercooked on one side, bread was so so. Service was good. We were seated 20 minutes after our reservation and did not get a great table."

Servers lacked basic serving skills, mixed orders, and brought entrees without all of the food items. Based on my experience, this restaurant is definitely worth a dining try as long as you do not expect much in the way of fine dining table service."

  • "We chose a weekend getaway to the Lake Rabun Hotel and Restaurant based on a favorable on line review. We found the review to be spot on. The hotel was small and charming and we found the restaurant to be spectacular. The menu is not vast but covers all the category basics and is based on a local farm to table philosophy. We dined there on two consecutive nights and both meals were excellent. The fist night my wife had blackend Drum and I had seared scallops. Both dishes were served with very creative side dishes prepared using local mixed greens. The second evening I ordered a slow cooked pork shoulder served over local sun chokes and my wife chose shrimp and grits. Our desert was a very rich buttermilk pie. A great experience!"

  • "If you're not from the area (Me and my date were visiting Helen,GA) for the weekend. Then the drive up the mountain could be quite the adventure. The food was amazing. Service was the best ever. Quality iof the food was by far best. Portions could be a little larger though. But the manager greeting us kindly. Servers kept checking on us. How was food. Even the manager stepped over a few times to check. The valentines day special menu and deserts are the best! Chef came out at the end of the night and asked us about our food and told us about the dishes we had and why he added specific ingredients. I would recommend this place to anyone!"

The limited menu wasn't as good and didn't have as much of a variety as the menu the previous time and no substitutions were allowed. Just seemed a bit unorganized and unprepared for the busy day. I will try it again when it's not a holiday."

  • "The fish special my husband had was out of this world! I ordered the filet as we like to share. Too bad I didn't order the fish as that was all we both ate! Filet was not bad, but nothing special. The mash potatoes tasted like they came out of a box with lots of water added to them, could not eat them. We have had several really good meals here and will continue to go, but will lean more towards the specials rather than the steak..."

This time I had shrimp and grits and a wonderful green salad with cranberries, pickled ginger, walnuts and baby lettuces with a deliciously light dressing. My friends had one of the breakfast dishes and raved about both. My husband had the waffle and fried chicken. We all agreed we would return even though we live over an hour away."

Brunch entrees like crab Oscar are luscious, and fried chicken and waffles a delicious classic...share an appetizer and leave room for dessert - everything's fabulous! Food is locally sourced whenever possible, Chef Jamie has a light and deft hand, and his presentation is creative and delightful. The service is friendly, respectful and efficient. The ambience is dress-casual and comfortable. Prices are not "cheap" but are certainly reasonable, and the portions are ample. I would recommend the Lake Rabun Hotel for family occasions and that special romantic dinner, even as a weekend retreat for two in the gorgeous N. Georgia mountains. It's a lovely experience."
