A word from Lake Elmo Inn
Established in 1881, the Lake Elmo Inn has served countless meals in its 129 years. Present owner John Schiltz has been a part of that tradition since 1983.
With a reputation for great food, service & charm, the Lake Elmo Inn has won many awards: Best Brunch in the Twin Cities for the past 21 years in a row, Top 10 Restaurant, Favorite Special Occasion and awards for our desserts, wine list, & service as well.
“Being an independent restaurant, we have to do a better job," says Chef Schiltz, "or we will get rolled over by the chains."
There is a lot of history within the Inn. Many great collections: salt & pepper shakers - 3000+ sets, crystal decanters & vases, carved ducks & no one decorates like the Inn at Christmas. It's worth the drive just to see it. 124 Nutcrackers and over 60 snow globes, thousands of ornaments... just to name a few.
Just 12 miles from downtown St. Paul & 25 miles from downtown Minneapolis the Inn is a perfect day or evening destination.

  • "Nice place. Good food. We had reservations but was not too crowded. I will come again and maybe try the Sunday Brunch which we hear is fabulous too."

  • "Unfortunately we were rather disappointed in our experience. After reading some great reviews, we had high expectations and were looking forward to our dinner. The service was very, very slow and the food was mediocre. Based on the reviews, it was likely just a bad night so we may give it another try in the future, but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant after this experience."

  • "Favorite restaurant for over 25 years! The service is excellent and friendly! This is a fabulous restaurant to visit during the various holidays. The enormous chocolate rabbits at Easter time along with other decorations and the absolutely gorgeous LARGE snow globes, nutcrackers, trees, etc. at Christmas time are outstanding! Each room has its own beauty and warmth! The enclosed outdoor dining area is wonderful! The Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad, Strawberry Salad, Rueben Sandwich, and fantastic desserts are my favorites!"

  • "My wife and I were looking for a quality seafood buffet for lent. I did some searching and contacted several of the Twin Cities food critics. They all replied that they knew of no seafood buffet worth mentioning and that buffets provided dry and less than desirable results. They missed this place. I am somewhat critical of quality and service and Lake Elmo Inn delivered on both. I don't mind paying a premium price ($50) for good food and service, however I thought it was worth every penny. We had a 7:30 reservation. Arrived 35 minutes early as we came from out of town. Nowhere within half a block to park so that is always a good sign. Host staff greeted us pleasantly and promptly. Not enough space allowed to properly review"

  • "This was my first visit to the Lake Elmo Inn and we were there for Sunday Brunch celebrating a friend's birthday. We had a 12:30 reservation for 2 and arrived a little early about 12:10. We were seated within a few minutes, and our server arrived swiftly with delicious caramel rolls, water & champagne. She pleasantly walked us through the features of the brunch, mentioning special entree that day, and offering us made-to-order omelettes. Service was superb-our water and champagne were refreshed, and plates were cleared regularly. Food was outstanding-Roast Beef at carving station,Eggs Benedict,Mashed Potatoes & Gravy,Salads,Desserts! Fresh Eggs Benedict were delivered to my table after I pointed out to chef that they had just run out."

  • "It was worth our hr. drive and all of us (5) would eagerly come again."

  • "Staff are superb, free Champagne and sticky buns with Brunch. Salad Bar has a great mix of salads and extras - great shrimp cocktail kit. Cold desserts at end of salad bar beg you to take a Napoleon - or is it a large Canoli? Hot food side is excellent. Eggs Benedict are wonderful, and so light. Short Ribs are juicy and fork-tender - with no 'gristle'. They go so well with the mashed potatoes. Hand-Carved Roast Beef and Ham - Done to 'Medium" and so tender and juicy. It's a long trip from Centerville, but definitely worth the time - and Military Discount too."

  • "We went to Lake Elmo Inn on a Saturday night to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Since we are new to MN, this was our first time for dinner. What a night to remember! We dined for 2 hours. The restaurant was extremely busy and we needed to wait for the food to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. Everything we ate exceeded our expectations! We have high expectations too! No detail was overlooked. We will not wait until our 21st anniversary to dine again at the Lake Elmo Inn."

  • "I love Lake Elmo Inn, but the last time we were there for dinner the service was bad. We waited around a lot and a couple people were never asked for a refill on their soda."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "I have dined at Lake Elmo Inn since the 1970s. Great food! Great service! I love the brunch the best. They always make you feel special. Food is always wonderful. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the menu for the Sunday brunch. The service at our table was great, as was the food. The only complaint was that the lines were long (but what does that say about your place!) and quite crowded by the door area. It would be great if somehow you could open up the area better, but I know you have to work with what you have. Thank you again, and we will be back to see you!"

    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "Our server was fantastic and very knowledgeable regarding the menu choices and specials. The oysters were delicious as were our main courses. The desert, the molten chocolate cake with ice cream, was enjoyed by all!"

  • "We had a wonderful time! A couple of our friends had never been there, so it was extra special for them. The food was as always, outstanding. We were able to visit, eat, and visit more before we finally left. It was just the best time."

  • "Then dark wood, fireplace, tablecloths, booths, are all icing on the cake with the great food being the main reason we go there!"
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "I loved how friendly and welcoming everyone was when we came in. We had the BEST server, but I noted that all the staff was the same way. The corn beef and cabbage was the best I had ever eaten and the spinach salad on the breakfast buffet was to die for! We went for the brunch, but would definately go back to try other menu items!"

  • "Came to Lake Elmo Inn to celebrate my 50th birthday. Our intention was to get the seafood buffet since it was offered this Friday night. We decided not to get the buffet. There just wasn't enough entree choices, And the entree's offered, just didn't seem to be worth the 50.00 price tag. We ended up ordering off the menu and everything was delicious. wife as nd I come to Lake Elmo two times a year. My wife loves it and we e will be back. More than likely we will eat in the bar. John does a great job in there and offers better combos than what the restaurant offers."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "As always the Sunday brunch was scrumptious. you just can't bet the smoked salmon on the salad bar along with the shrimp. And the roast beef was done perfect!!"
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Dinner for our family of 4 was great. We selected two evening specials Trout and Artic Char and 2 menu items pasta and prawns and gulf shrimp. The Grand Marnia sauce was delicious on the almond crusted trout. All dishes were very good and our server was flexible to offer an alternative vegtable for my youngest. Every dishes had great flavor and we even sampled two of the deserts Lava cake and Cheese cake with Rasberries. The feaured wine by the glass Petite Petite Sarah was delicious. Very enjoyable evening for a special Saturday night dinner!"

  • "We've been huge fans for years and this experience only reinforced our fondness for the place. Wonderful tender filets! Prompt and professional service followed by a steamy cinamonny hot towel to refresh after the fabulous meal. And of course the chocolate dipped strawberries provided gratis after dinner!"

  • "A perfect gem in Lake Elmo, quaint and a nice place to have a special celebration. We had Brunch with our two teenage daughters - the food was wonderful and lots of variety. A lovely place, very unique. We all loved our food and the ambiance; it is crowded and we now know why - perfect place for a special Sunday Brunch!"

  • "Our experience for Sunday brunch was outstanding. Our server was attentive like no other restaurant. Our champagne was refreshed, water goblets were refilled without asking, and out dishes were cleared constantly. The food was hot and delicious, and replenished at the buffet. The desserts were so gooey and tasty. We would go again. And will definitely tell friends."
