  • "We had read that this would be the best Chinese food in Canada, and perhaps the best outside Hong Kong. Not sure id go that far, but the food was very good. The location is a bit bizarre, hidden on an upper floor of a Doubletree Hotel. Not the location you might expect for a top restaurant. Parking garage was creepy, and you had to enter through a dingy hotel lobby, up some stairs with limited signage. I've heard that the Dim Sum is outstanding, so we'll likely give it another try."

  • "I have been to LWH at least 20 times over many years and it had always delivered both amazing food and sophisticated service. The food is still very good but the wine list is now very limited and uninteresting. We arrived at 7pm on a Saturday night and were constantly rushed by the service. There was no communication between the levels of service, so less than two minutes after telling the wine captain that we would chose wine after we selected food, we had to give the same message to two different servers. This sort of thing went on all night. I we were asked about dessert 8 times after saying (each time) that we wanted to finish our wine first. We would have ordered more, but felt totally rushed and went elsewhere for after dinner drinks!"

  • "Rol San is usually my go to place for dim sum but to be different we tried this place. It was highly recommended by someone we knew. I was reluctant to go anywhere else but my usual spot, but so glad I tried! Delicious food (esp. the har gow, turnip cake, and milk custard tarts, short ribs), excellent service(felt like we had 3 servers doting on our table), beautiful decor (nice table settings, a lot of space between tables, a fountain at the entrance.) It's pricier than average so it's a nice place if you want somewhere special to go for dim sum (in our case). They do have more than just dim sum though. Maybe next time. : ) High quality food. Made and served with care. Would come back again!!"

  • "I was shocked to see my elder daughter eating all the traditional Chinese New Year food like black moss, dried oyster, pork hock etc that she was reluctant to even try in the past :) It's the magic the Chef plays in Crystal Purse etc. :) :) And thank you Canson for the free dessert, especially the one for my elder daughter which is her favourite, and the sweet Chinese New Year Cake that could be taken cold with dry coconut :) :) :)"

  • "I've been here a few times, this time it was the busiest that I've ever seen it, probably because it was the beginning of Chinese New Year. As a result, the food service was a little slow and dishes came one at time. Our main dish was "Catch of the Day" which was Sea Bass steamed with soy sauce, oil, green onions and garlic. It was fresh and very tasty. I would definitely continue to patronize this pleasant venue. Unlike many other Chinese restaurants the place is clean and has cloth table clothes. The staff is always friendly and polite. It is definitely a few steps above most Chinese restaurants in the downtown."

  • "We have been to Lai Wah Heen many times over the years. Their dim sum continues to be the most imaginative and flavorful dim sum in a city with a lot of competitors. I've never had any better, even in HK or PRC. The truffle dishes were a delight, but the biggest surprise was the wonderful cold shredded chicken. A dish that would rival any we had in Szechuan itself. A contrast of tastes, textures and colour that made it a real standout. And the lychee-scented tea we had with our meal was the perfect accompaniment."

We especially liked our server this year as she was most helpful and understood what we were looking for. If we lived closer it would be more than once/year.   • "Many interesting items on the menu - definitely not "run of the mill" Chinese food. Rainbow Chopped in Crystal Fold was very nice and the quality of beef used in Beef w/ Hoisin Sauce was good. Soups were not flavourful. Cost of fried rice - foie gras and duckling - not at all worth it. Ambience was disappointing - if the intention is that this is a high end restaurant, it should not be located in a run down hotel."

Forgot to bring things we asked for, then said that she is too busy. Everything about this place is nice, except for this particularly lady. Got her twice, hope to never see her ever again."

  • "My husband and I were there on Dec. 24. We ordered Wagyu beef, Beijing Duck and other dishes. When the Wagyu beef arrived, it was the greatest disappointment. The price tag for 4 pieces of beef and asparagus is $48, but what we had is the AAA sirloin instead. There is a huge difference between these two kinds of beef, I think the restaurant did not expect anyone would know the difference. Well, we happen to know to very well though. We just want to make a point here: We don't mind to pay extra or good foods, but you have to give us what we pay foe Saggy beef is only a commercial name, not a real deal, the server is obliged to inform customers. Otherwise, like us, we seriously felt being spammed, and that ruined the whole night!"

We were a party of 5 getting together pre-Christmas for a special meal - and each and everyone of of us were all very disappointed by the restaurant. The food on the pre-fixe dinner was only fair (considering the top dollar charged per person), the service was adequate bordering on perfunctory and the rather sterile dining room was 2/3 empty. I would not recommend this restaurant nor will any of us return for a second meal."

Ordered a couple expensive dishes for dim sum (frois gras tarts, crab shaped dumpling etc), which had nice appearance but forgettable tastes. Service was good. Probably will go to Markham for my next upscale dim sum."
