Diner Reviews
  • "We've been to Lago Di Como a handful of times and always order something new. The food is wonderful. The place is small and friendly with a great staff. Definitely a neighborhood gem."

  • "We've been to Lago di Como half a dozen times now. Each time we've had outstandingly delicious food. Hubby loves the steak; he's a steak nut and says it's consistently the best he's ever had. I've loved every pasta dish I tried. Had an excellent pizza one night--nice, thin crust with tasty prosciutto--yum! Not heavy or greasy. The staff is always cheerful and personable. Our kids love it too, which is saying a lot. Give it try! You won't be sorry."

  • "Over the past 6 months both the food and service has declined. A long wait for the waiter at one time. A dish touting prawns had only 4 tiny shrimp."

  • "The food was tasty, hot, and the perfect quantity. Our server did a very good job of handling several tables that were seated at the same time. We opted to sit outside because there was a LARGE birthday party inside, and we knew it would be loud. It was a good thing we did, because in fact they were so loud that we even heard them outside! I would not recommend the restaurant under those conditions, and won't stay if we see that there is a large celebration going on the next time we go. Otherwise, I highly recommend it!"

  • "This Santa Cruz restaurant is a delightful alternative to American influenced Italuan restaurants. The food is fresh, with wonderful, authentic flavors. The chef from the Lake Como area is inventive and the food is delicious."

  • "We live nearby. We reserved online. Our table wasn't ready. We waited a long time to be greeted by our waiter, and waited a long time before he came to take our order.....we were getting impatient. We had the pasta pescadore. The pasta overdone the sauce was salty. The Insalata Pomodori e Cipolle had very thick and not particularly flavorful tomatos and was nothing special. Cavatelli was an unappealing presentation, slightly soggy. We asked three different people for the check without success. The hostess finally came again and then remembered we wanted our check. Cute place, authenic accents, mediocre food and very slow and inattentive service. We wont be back!"

  • "We love you restaurant and have had very good service, great food and wine every time that we visit you. We do tell our friends what good food you provide and that we always get great service never a bad meal or poor service and I can tell you that in Santa Cruz that is saying a lot, and I have live here my whole life."

  • "Every dish we have enjoyed has been fresh, with superbly balanced flavors. We love the caprese and caesar salads. The pasta dishes are delicious and the fish is always cooked to perfection. The chocolate soufflé is the bomb. The hostess and wait staff are both friendly and professional and the chef is an artist."

  • "We were comfortable the minute we sat down at our table. I was with my granddaughter and we talked full time. Our service was way above average, never intrusive but always there when we needed help. We are both foodies, knowledgable about food and enjoyed our meal immensely. Will always return. Thank you all for your hard work. "

  • "My food was very good. After being asked by the server how everything was, a friend let her know that she did not care for her saffron fish raviolis. She had taken one bite. The server said "sorry" and left. That was it. We wondered why she asked us in the first place how everything was. A few minutes later the friend called her back over and ordered another entre. Getting a refill on water seemed almost impossible. I finally got my own and the water person apologized. The restaurant was also very hot but otherwise very pleasant for people who like to hear each other talk. Nice music was playing in the background. "

  • "Overall a lovely dining experience for us as we celebrated our daughter's birthday. A little disappointed that the birthday wasn't noted by anyone, though. Salads were delicious and 2 of 3 entrees--fish-filled ravioli with saffron sauce and the penne with bolognese--were both delicious and noteworthy; my "special" spaghetti with mussels & seafood in a light red sauce was very ordinary and not worthy or mention, unfortunately. Expected more complicated flavors... Service was very attentive yet unobtrusive which makes for a good server. We will definitely return."

  • "The menu choice was commendable . I had the salmon raviolis and my wife the pork scaloppini. Both excellent. The Italian wines were also superb. Service was fantastic with very professional waiters. We will keep going back to this restaurant."

  • "I live just blocks from this restaurant and have been meaning to give it a try after hearing nice things from family and friends. We really enjoyed our dinner overall and only had a couple minor things to keep it from having that fifth star. We went there on a Saturday night, and they were very busy, but they were well staffed and the service was excellent. We only waited a couple minutes for our table and since we had a reservation, it was exactly as expected. Nice start..., we were seated and had quick and excellent service. The only complaint was that it was really loud and it was hard to hear each other. The food was excellent though, from a pizza appetizer to my rib-eye steak, to my wife's chicken we were happy about the food"

  • "The first time we tried Lago Di Como we was for Valentine's Day and we had their fixed menu that was very good. We decided to try their regular menu this time and we really enjoyed our meal. I had the fresh fish of the evening which was red snapper and it was very fresh. My husband had the spaghetti and enjoyed the flavor and the portions are generous. The restaurant is well lit and very nicely decorated but the only problem is the noise level. It is very loud almost to the point of being annoying."

  • "Lago di Como had been on our radar as a local place to try for some time; we finally made a reservation last Sunday night. I won't bore you with a play-by-play of our entire evening, but the highlights are: 1. Earnest, enthusiatic service; 2. a compact but well-organized wine list; 3. Delicious food, carefully prepared and plated. We will be back to explore more of the menu and wine list and we look forward to sharing this gem with friends."

  • "Giovanni, the owner and chef, is really invloved in the kitchen scene, and really cares about his custiners being utterly satisfied with their food and experience. The food was excellent, with innovative dishes such as the agnolotti, so,e stuffed raviolis, and the Pesce alla Livornese, magnificent. Also the Filetto di Manzo was cooked perfectly and flavorful with the spinach contorno. We will return..."

  • "Our reservations for Valentine's weekend were late, so by the time we arrived, they were out of the items we had chosen, however, the entrees we did order were delicious and the wine that the waiter recommended was fabulous pairing with our meal. The calamari we ordered as an appetizer was cooked to perfection. The night was made special by the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff from the hostess to the chef. It was a great find and we will definitely go back the next time we are in Santa Cruz."

  • "Got reservations for valentine day dinner, and the meal was great, but few choices were given for the evening. great service, nice atmosphere and overall a nice dinner"

  • "I took my wife out for dinner here on Valentine's Day. It was a fantastic experience. They had a fixed menu for Valentine's Day which they charged well for. Not having the choice was definitely something we both hated. Also they asked for a $25 deposit for each individual before we got there. Seating was pretty quick, so no complaints there. The server John was courteous and quick. He kept an eye on when we're done with one course and quickly followed it with another one. But frankly, the food was too much for both of us. They need to realize not everyone may want to have a 5 course meal, so they should have given some options there rather than having a fixed 5 course meal for everyone. The wine was good and definitely helped"

  • "This is a place where you feel like you're dining with a room full of friends. It's very open to the kitchen and the whole dining area. Ample room is provided so you can have a private conversation yet enjoy the ambiance of the room. The chef takes care to put his special touch on each dish. A fun place to go and choose of the regular menu or enjoy the specials. We've been here a couple of times and already can't wait to go back. The salmon is great!"

  • "We had been told to try this place and were not disappointed. We all ordered different dishes and shared bites with each other. From the seafood to the pasta and lamb, the food was wonderful. The chef adds his personal touch to each dish to add a flair that will make your mouth smile."

  • "Was very pleasantly surprised by Lago di Como. The food was marvelous, the service attentive and the tables were far enough apart so you didn't have to listen to the conversation of your neighboring table. SC has a very limited selection of good restaurants so I was thrilled to discover this gem."

  • "Everything was great at this restaurant! My whole family was warmly greeting right when we walked in and our waitress, Kamryn, was super! All of the food was delicious...including dessert. I strongly recommend their tiramisu. We came to Santa Cruz as a treat before our daughter headed back to Spain for college...she was so pleased with dinner which made our evening even more special. We will definitely be back!"

  • "one of my favorite spots in Santa Cruz, noise level was a little high, but it was to be expected on new years eve, most nights it's nowhere near as loud. The food is always great and the service is always exceptional. There's a reason my girlfriend and I keep coming back here :)"

  • "I grew up eating homemade Italian food, and homemade pasta. I go to a few Italian restaurants and they are okay. I have low expectations because I grew up eating the best. What I can say about Lago Di Como is that not only did it not match my families homemade Italian cooking, but exceeded it. Never, in my 44 years has anyone or anything even compared as equal in goodness to my families homemade Italian food. This restaurant surpassed it. I had the four cheese gnocchi and I think I had about 15 foodgasms eating my meal. I tasted the lasagna my boyfriend ordered and it was excellent, just so good. Will return here again and again and again."

  • "I read all the reviews, expecting a nice and authentic Italian dinner on Christmas Eve and was so unhappy. The first issue started with their hostess, and then went on a downward spiral into oblivion. The hostess was incredibly rude and actually lost her cool when we asked to not sit next to the bussing station stating that "it's hardly used anyway", the quality of the food was incredibly poor, the salad was out of season, the caperberries unsoaked (and as an Italian I find this totally inexcusable), but the wine was very good, the plating was something leftover from the early 1990's. With today's diners looking for fresh, innovative and seasonal fare, this food was quite horrible. We should have left after the rude hostess seated us."
