A word from Lady Mendls
Since opening, Lady Mendl's Tea Salon has been consistently rated the best and most romantic Tea Salon in New York City. Guests enjoy a scrumptious five-course tea, consisting of a variety of classic finger sandwiches, fresh baked scones with clotted cream and jams, and a large selection of fine teas.
The Victorian style architecture and furnishings recreate a time of sublime elegance. Guests can easily envision Edith Wharton or Elsie De Wolfe entertaining friends at the turn of the century. Lady Mendl's Tea Salon is often used for Bridal Teas, small weddings, or as an intimate dining room. Reservations are required and seatings are approximately 90 minutes.

I made the reservation 2 1/2 months in advance and was really looking forward to the famous High Tea at this restaurant. It was extremely pricey for the quality of food it served. For the price, and the nature of the lunch, we expected to have a variety of teas to choose from, but there were only 2 types available. The tea was watery and was not kept hot. Tea in lukewarm temperature is the worse tea to have. We asked for coffee and the coffee was bitter and also lukewarm. The bread of the sandwiches was not fresh at all and the pastries were presented in a very small plate. Their famous crepe cake was the only thing on the menu that deserves a 'like'. Overall, it was not worth half of the price it was charging.

I'm obsessed with high tea in the city, and Lady Mendl's has both a great deal and a beautiful environment. I love coming her for business meetings with fellow businesswomen and the setting is just divine! So is the tea - and the scones - and the dessert! Highly recommend!

My flatmate and I came here for St. George's Day and we couldn't be more pleased with our experience. It was definitely out of our normal price range but worth every penny! The service was amazing and they were very accommodating of different diet preferences. Highly recommend the Marbury Rose tea. If you're in the mood for a fancy afternoon tea service and have some money to spend then definitely come here!

What to know: The tea service lasts almost 2 hours. The room is beautifully furnished with 2 fireplaces. The restaurant keeps to a tight schedule, but we never felt rushed. The tea menu is extensive - 4 pages, with an assortment of Black, Green, White, Oolong, Herbal & special blends. Each person at the table gets a pot of tea for herself, so if everyone selects a different kind you can have a lot of fun sampling. You're allowed a 2nd pot, but it's a refill. You can't select a different tea. There's lots of food. I attended with my boyfriend and I was worried it wouldn't be filling enough for him but he was very satisfied. In fact we had to have the 5th course wrapped. The waiter goes around the room twice with the tray of tea sandwiches.

I decided to have a small tea party on my birthday and Lady Mendls did not disappoint. The tea - my personal choice, the Lady Mendl blend - was the best tea I'd ever had and the tea sandwiches were just delicious. Everything was lovely and tasteful, from the entrance parlor to the carefully arranged tables. It truly felt like we had a little secret place to ourselves. A wonderful experience which my friends equally enjoyed. I'll definitely be going back in the future.

There was too much food! It would've been enough to have the sandwiches and scones. Everything after the scones was superfluous. We had four different pots of tea, and couldn't figure out which pot held which type of tea. Some sort of ID tag on the pot would have been helpful.

I went to Afternoon Tea here with a friend. The service was fantastic. We were seating right away and the five courses were brought one after another and yet there was no rush to get through the plates. The sandwich tray was brought around twice. The scones were small but very tasty and all you need with all the other food. A mille feuille cake was served which was absolutely amazing. I took home the last course which was cookies and chocolate covered strawberries. Everything was delicious. The room was comfortable and calm and the tea selection was good. Overall, it was one of my favorite tea experiences.

Had a great afternoon tea here. Food was yummy and the service was great. It was a beautiful location and it felt very homey. The scones & clotted cream as well as the signature Lady M cake were the highlights. I almost wish we had been given the option of less finger sandwiches and more scones but on the whole, it was a lovely and fun experience and I will definitely return again and again.

I took my mother here for an early birthday dinner, and she absolutely loved it. She kept bragging to her friends about it in the weeks following. I think it really did make her day! Overall, this place is wonderful. Once you enter the salon, it's like you've been transported to the past. Everyone is extremely courteous, and other patrons are very mindful of keeping the volume down. The food is nice, but I think the real highlight is the environment they create for you. It makes you feel like a real gentlewoman sitting down to tea in the early 1800's! This was really a very special experience, both for my mother and for me.

We reserved a table for 6 but they seated us in a tale for 4. So, we were seating so tight and uncomfortable and can barely move. It should have been a relaxing day for us having afternoon tea with the family but was really disappointed with the tight seating arrangement. Also the sandwich is not freshly made. As if it was made early in a day and the bread exposed to air so it kind of taste dry. The Lady M crepe are delicious. The waiters are really nice.

We had our 2:30 booking confirmed, however the service did not commence until after 3pm or other patrons arrive! We had to wait! The sandwiches and scones were so dry - I didn't bother with the scones they were so crumbly. The signature cake is just crepe layers and creme - one spoonful was enough - it was awful. Last were plain biscuits and choc dipped strawberries - again, really poor quality. Food is lack lustre and it takes so long to get each course it is ridiculous. Why they don't just serve all courses on a tiered plate I don't know. Seating is unconventional with a mix of low sofas at tables with chairs. Don't bother with Lady Mendl's, there are plenty of other better options for afternoon tea in NYC.

We were rushed, service was poor and it was not pleasant experience one expects from a tea salon. Without a greeting or picking a tea our server just dropped the first course to our plates. The server looked grungy, his uniform was wrinkled and he was unshaved. Two minutes later he came and stood there impatiently while we were looking at the tea selection. He was back shortly with our teas that didn't soak properly so the first cup was tasteless.Without finishing the first course he "dropped" sandwiches into our plates.Special cake not too good.Few minutes after the last course they just gave us a check without a word !No smile, no thank you etc. For New York standards this is well bellow.Don't waste your time on Lady Mendl's!

Their primary goal is to make money and we're just there as a number to provide them that opportunity. I didn't feel a personal sense of care. The environment is stunning and that's what you pay for. The scones were warm and well done, but nothing else was exceptional and the awareness that they were working hard to get you in and out in their 1 and a half hour time slot was always in the forefront. Our view out the back window was beautiful, but this is New York and there are so many fabulous dinning experiences. I just couldn't justify the $112 for our bill (for 2 for tea service).
