A word from LacoMelza Ethio Cafe & Restaurant
Dabo be Shai is celebrated Country-wide by all Ethiopian people, regardless of their class/status and religion. Our logo “Dabo” is a simple bread which serves as a nutritional basis in the Ethiopian diet. As with most things in life, the simplest are the best. We hope to keep that true with the food we prepare for you here at LacoMelza. Dishes prepare to bring out the natural simple goodness, not overpowdered with spices.

OKay so I was lured in by the 1000 open tables points and sometimes you take a hit. The food was overally spiced and no one could answer our questions.

Just like the Washington Post says, this one has the best Ethiopian food we've ever tried. The service was fantastic, including adding dessert and coffee for free on Mother's Day. We will definitely come back!

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and food was tasty. I was a little disappointed that they served the food in western dinnerware rather than in traditional Ethiopian fashion. The food too, while good was not anything out of the ordinary. The tofu tibs were awesome. Overall a good experience

We decided to try LacoMelza based on a review in the Post, boy are we glad we did! We had the Laco Bretmitad Tibs, Fish Kitfo, and Doro Wot, each was very good indeed but the fish dish was particularly good and refreshing. Their injera was very fresh and good. They have a vegan menu, which we did not try, but certainly will. The decor is delightful and cheery as was the service. The owner took a lot of time to explain dishes and their food philosophy. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

By far the best Ethiopian food in the DC area and well worth the trek to Silver Spring.

The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. My friend and I couldn't stop eating--we had the vegetable platter and another tofu dish, so it's a great place for vegetarians. I believe that they're a new place--it was very quiet, and they are getting a few minor service issues worked through, but it was a great evening (we stayed for hours), and everyone was pleasant and helpful. The chef (?) started us with a chickpea amuse (wasabi added in) that she said she only just had created. Also: Their ginger tea is amazing, if you're up for a hot drink.

The food was fantastic. Everything was delicious and we will be back. The service was very friendly, however they seemed to be working out a few kinks from being a newly opened restaurant. The decor was pleasant and the place was very clean. Once they get their systems down, this will be a very good place.
