L'Abattoir RestaurantThis was our second visitThis was our second visit to L'abbattoir - The food was outstanding. We tried the Dungeness Crab and chickpea toast, the BBQ Octopus, the Pan fried veal sweetbreads on toast, the roast scallops and pork belly and the duck - two ways. All the dishes were as delicious as they sounded. Don't miss dessert. The lemon tart with creme fraiche ice cream and berries is excellent.12/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic service coupledFantastic service coupled with outstanding food. Cannot wait to go back!11/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Steak & Strong Cocktails! This was the first time I'd been here and it exceeded my expectations! I took a friend from out of town here for dinner. We were greeted at the door, friendly and welcoming. All staff were attentive and polite. The restaurant itself is gorgeous! We didn't have to fill up our own glasses once - true mark of good service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends, family... anyone! Great for friends catching up, for a date or just to try something new.
Oh and the food? I had the Steak Diane and it was probably the best thing I've ever eaten! YUM!
P.S. Strong cocktails. I mean really strong. Like rip the paint off the wall strong. Not a bad thing.11/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the food, and the serviceLoved the food, and the service was amazing. I had one of the best cocktails of my life there! Fabulous Gastown spot!10/4/2013 12:00:00 AMoutstandingFrom beginning to end, one of the best dinners we've had in Vancouver. This particular night out topped Chambar and Vij's for us, and that's saying something =)7/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat room and excellent service.Great room and excellent service. Nice cocktail list. Excellent small plate entree selection and good list of larger main courses. Great produce cooked with respect. We loved it!7/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodFood was excellent... drinks were great (you have to try a hanky panky).6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNever DisappointedGreat food and attentive service. Overall an excellent experience.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of Gastown's bestMost unusual space. Friendly attentive service. Unusual Flavors. Highly recommend.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite spot in townL'Abattoir is our favorite restaurant in Vancouver. The ambiance is authentic, the service is impeccable and personal, and the food is incredible. And the best steak in town!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed the food tremendously!Food was as good as previous reviews. I was visiting from LA and the food at L'Abattoir is as good as the best in LA. Very impressed!
Wine mark up is a bit high.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently top drawerHave eaten here many times and have never been disappointed in the food or service. It always hits the right note whether we are there for a special occasion or we have just dropped in for one of Sean's concoctions and a quick bite. Staff are attentive and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We eat out a lot for business and pleasure and this is definitely our go-to spot in Vancouver.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe steak diane was delicious! The steak diane was delicious! So were the crab appetizer and desserts. Halibut was prepared with mussels which imparted an off taste to the delicate fish. Otherwise, everything was excellent.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMour food was very good (weour food was very good (we had a special steak starter and both had the halibut with the chocolate pot de creme for dessert).
our server was very attentive and friendly but gave us privacy as well
the restaurant is small but we went early so it wasnt very crowded, it has a good vibe
would totally go here again6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't beat scallops and cocktailsScallops and pork belly were amazing, cooked perfectly! Tried a couple of the cocktails from the extensive list, and enjoyed both. Very nice place to take a date. Very classy feel, and service while being casual enough that you don't feel the need to wear a jacket. Definitely would recommend it. Go for the food, stay for the cocktails.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHot spot, great foodA trendy hot spot in old Gastown, L'Abbattoir lives up to its reputation for great food. The decor is industrial chic, the service is friendly and efficient and the ambiance is lively. The food is perfectly prepared and artfully presented. All of this comes at a fairly steep price, but for a wonderful evening of great food in a lively setting, it well worth it.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe great inventorsClever inventions are normally the simple ones.here the chef has put together simple combinations which taste superb, clearly a leading inventor at the forefront of innovative tasty food .One for the foodies 'bucket list'6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful!!!A delightful restaurant filled with people and wonderful "vibs". Ecletic but approachable food - excellent!!! I loved my salmon salad with crunchy potatoes and lemon "brulee" tart. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. I loved everything about this restaurant and look forward to returning!!! Don't miss this one!!!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLove itThis restaurant is my favorite in vancouver, the plates are well thought out, fresh quality and pfect portions. The staff are all knowledgeable and courteous very helpful when asked questions. I've been twice and will be going back again soon!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMNew favourite restaurantThe food was excellent, I will definately go back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely staff and delicious food.We LOVED the BBQ octopus appetizer and our cocktails. Their steak special was fantastic, and the scallops were quite good. We sat in the lovely atrium, a bit bright for a "romantic" dinner, but pleasant. The tables are quite close together, so I found myself distracted by the conversations on either side of us. I could not help but hear every word our neighbors were saying. That's my only real complaint. Otherwise, a fantastic dining experience.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMRandom Wednesday Night DinnerMy boyfriend and I decided to have dinner out spontaneously and crossed our fingers to see what tables for 2 were available and lucked out with L'Abattoir! It was great to be greeted right when we got in the door. The service and room was unpretentious and had a great vibe. We ordered 2 drinks each throughout our meal, the beverages were great and the list was diverse. I'm sure many people would go back for the bread basket alone, super delicious! Who doesn't like brioche with bacon? The rest of our meal was great, portions were right sized didn't feel like we over ate or couldn't eat a 3 course meal to experience everything the Chef Lee Cooper had to offer. But my favorite dish from this meal this time would be the Foie Gras Tourchon.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSo good!Everything was excellent, but particularly the daily appetizer special (tortellini stuffed with ricotta, with a broccoli purée and broccoli rabe ) and the halibut and duck breast. The halibut was perfectly cooked and the duck breast which is slightly smoked, sublime. (I don't usually order smoked duck, but this was amazing!) desserts were also good. But enormous portions, so sharing is a great idea. Service was friendly, helpful and unobtrusive, and our waiter in particular, a true foodie with great knowledge and passion. All in a memorable experience - we would go back!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMbest Vancity meal in ages!dinner date with the wife for anniversary, we gave L'Abbatoir a try! Loved it from the first bite till the last crumb, beautiful presentation and great food. Best foie gras I've had! My wife asked if she can move in but they said they don't take boarders...5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious meal, great serviceSalmon nicoise cold plate was a fabulous prelude to two terrific entrees, Scallops and Steak Diane. Sides were outstanding, too. Attentive service, great ambiance.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best!!!Great venue, exposed brick, intimate tables. Service is outstanding, fantastic cocktail menu, the Slaughterhouse is habit forming. The food is creative and delicious, I will definitely be back.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AModd name great foodExcellent service and atmosphere was followed by amazing plates of food, both visually and in taste. Will come back again and will definitely bring family and friends....5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday for Ms. FussypantsWe enjoyed a birthday dinner for my wife with a small group. It went off without a hitch thanks to the Helpful waitstaff and Sommelier. The restaurant is located in a Cool neighbourhood, as long as you don't mind feasting on amazing food and then being met by homeless as you exit the restaurant. The Steak Diane was a real treat!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMixed qualityThe mains were fantastic at this restaurant but the appetizers were lacking.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Jail in townTook our just graduated daughter and friend for a celebration dinner. The bartender worked his magic to start the evening and then we went on to a perfectly cooked interesting meal. The view of the vibrant bar kept our interest. Although we left fairly early, it seemed to be a great place to drink and meet old and new friends. We will be back5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcept for one unfriendlyExcept for one unfriendly person who brought our breads and drinks. the rest of the staff was amazing -- love the friendliness. Husband enjoyed the sturgeon carpacio. The scallops were done perfectly and my pork shoulder was tender and juicy. Lemon tart and sticky pudding were delicious. The coctail feature hit the spot.
Even though the room was small and the tables close together, we still felt comfortable because we were seated by the window.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and serviceFor appetizer we had the escargot which is prepared with scrambled egg, olive oil, lemon, herbs, and chicken. It isn't prepared in the traditional style with butter garlic sauce and puff pastry but this take on escargot doesn't disappoint. Get the steak diane since it is probably the best steak you will ever have.
The service was excellent and the place gets crowded so it can be a little noisy.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing fareAll the dishes were better than we expected. As visually appealing as the taste. Parking was not too bad either.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AML'Abattoir - wonderful eveningThe bread was definitely a surprise treat, food very delicious and service was excellent. I would highly recommend L'Abattoir.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe table was perfect, theThe table was perfect, the ambience was very nice. Loved the windows, the table setting, everything about the back part of the restaurant with all the windows looking at the back alley. The food was served on time, French portions but very rich and yummy, we savored every bite! The staff was also very thoughtful, they even went out of their way to make the dinner special for my friend who was celebrating her birthday. Would definitely recommend this to my friends and family!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTables a little close butTables a little close but I expected this given other reviews. Food was great, service excellent....attentive and helpful. Overall a very pleasurable experience.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary delightThe atmosphere was uplifting and we were greeted by the host who wished us for our anniversary. Very friendly and unobtrusive wait staff that were always attending to our needs even if we asked them or not. Great food, served with style. We will definitely go back again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMKitchen Still Hot...BUTIt was a special occasion. Great table. The food, cocktails and service excellent. The one negative is the very expensive wine list. Very pricey. Well worth it to bring your own despite the also expensive corkage.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best in town! The food was excellent. Service was first class as usual. We enjoyed their cocktails very much. This restaurant is a gem! Great job Labattoir!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food, not too priceyWe had a really lovely meal here, having found the restaurant on Trip Advisor . It is on the edge of gas town, if you walk 1 block past it, things start to feel a bit less safe. It was well worth the visit though as the understated menu lead to some very well presented and delicious dishes that would not have been out of place in a Michelin Starred restaurant. The staff were attentive and knowledgable of the menu. The Scallop and Pork Belly main course was exceptional following on from 2 really interesting fish starters. We would definitely eat here on a future visit to the city and would recommend it to anyone looking for fine dining with a contemporary buzz.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent food, very loudHaving never been to van before, a friend recommended this place. Also the high reviews.
We shared the food gras with rhubarb, yuzu gelly and raspberry fluid gell; she had never had foie gras and was very impressed.
For mains we had the halibut and lamb. I the roughly enjoyed both. Presentation was top notch and flavors bright but light and not heavy.
My only complaint was the sardine can like seating: where our neighbor tables were so close it made conversing difficult as you had to both focus on what was being said and fight over others volume. Also being beside a large group that had clearly spent a pretty penny on wine and reached the realms of obnoxious.
The food was delicious and service prompt and professional.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was incredible, theThe food was incredible, the staff was relaxed and attentive. A great night out!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGastown GemQuaint gem in the heart of gastown!
Excellent food. Good portions too .
Great retro drinks. I recommend the "Ernest Hemmingway" best I've ever had.
The service was perfect. No one hovering over you but they were right there when you needed something.
I recommend making reservations well in advance as it took me 5 weeks to get a table for 4.
Maybe they have some standby tables in the back overlooking Blood Alley( cute back there too..5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty Inventive Food!Everything we ordered was top notch, prepared perfectly, and showed a wonderful level of playfulness and creativity on the part of the chef.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat First Time ExperienceHad an incredible first experience at L'Abattoir and would go back again and again. My date and I were taken care of exceptionally well and allowed to stay for well over 4 hours with no issues from the restaurant. We ate and drank at our own leisure and had a great time. The food was phenomenal, we both had the Steak Diane. It was incredible. The cocktails were really good too, I had the Fourth Regiment and the Donald Draper.
I'll definitely be coming back to L'Abattoir again.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMRoberto's dinnerModern, eclectic interior, not posh but stylish. The appetizers and entrees were excellent. Portions are satisfactory and the plate presentation is outstanding. Desserts were scrumptuous. Somewhat pricey but very recommendable cuisine for the more refined diner. My only negative was the attempt at making a pseudo Caesar drink, which left a rather funny taste. But then again it was not a featured menu drink, so............4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambiance and amazing foodI dined at L'Abattoir for the first time with a colleague from out of town. It was recommended to me by one of our clients. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left the experience was warm, friendly and the service outstanding. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and our table was attended to perfectly. The food was presented beautifully and cooked exactly as we asked - and tasted amazing. The tables are close and we struck up a conversation with our neighbours (tourists) which made the evening even more enjoyable. Definitley worth a visit.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Night OutMy wife and I were in Vancouver for our honeymoon and were given L'Abattoir as a "must go" restaurant for dinner. We checked out the menu and it looked fantastic so we were both eager to make the reservation. Both our main courses and the appetizer we ordered were delicious and looked as if a lot of time went into the concept of each dish. The place itself is really cool, we were lucky enough to be seated in the back room which was very fun but very loud. That said, we enjoyed our experience there and the next time we're in town we are looking forward to a return trip!2/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
