  • Private Party Facilities: L’Abattoir’s private dining space consists of a total of 1200 square feet of seating space, and may be
    divided roughly in half with a noise reducing barrier. You may wish to rent one room or both rooms
    combined, depending on the size and style of your event. Either room comfortably accommodates up
    to 24 seated guests, while the combined space accommodates up to 50 seated guests or a standing
    reception of up to 100 guests.
    Our primary goal is to provide our guest with genuine hospitality in a well-equipped setting so they
    can focus on enjoying their event. Our private rooms feature comfortable seating, built-in audio visual
    and coat check.

A word from L'Abattoir Restaurant
L'Abattoir is located in the center of Gastown between historic Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley. The restaurant was built in the 19th century and is the site of Vancouver's first jail. Originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past.
Set in a refurbished brick and beam building that combines classic French tile work with industrial fixtures, natural wood, and glass and steel finishes, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge setting, elevated dining room and plush, sun soaked atrium.
Chef Lee Cooper and General Manager Paul Grunberg are dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating and drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. French influenced West Coast fare is paired with Sommelier Robert Herman's eclectic wine program and Head Barman Shaun Layton's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience.

  • "First visit to the restaurant...My husband and I were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary and chose L'Abattoir for our celebration. The restaurant had a very interesting cocktail selection which allowed us to try some very good but different drinks. We tried two different appetizers, grilled octopus and tuna ceviche, both were absolutely wonderful. For a main we had Steak Diane and the Duck, both perfectly cooked and full of wonderful flavour. Overall a great experience and would definitely go back."

  • "The food was just outstanding and the beverage selection was impressive. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. My wife's vegetarian special requests were met above and beyond expectations. The only thing I didn't like so much was the number of people we had to deal with: 7 different staff came to our table during the course of our meal; I would prefer to deal with the host and then one server and maybe a busser. But overall, we had a great time there. The quality for the price paid is totally worth it!"

  • "I enjoyed my meal at L'Abbatoir: the potato/herb tortellini were appropriately al dente and paired with zucchini prepared two ways; the halibut was perfectly cooked and accompanied by very good thick-cut fries. But the noise level at this hip, happening spot was just too high; my husband and I were totally unable to converse. I'd recommend it only for those who can tolerate a lot of noise with their dinner."

  • "When we arrived at 8:30 it was still a VERY happening and very loud bar scene with food being delivered. Every plate I saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. Turned out to taste as good as it looked. I expected to pay more just based on the looks but was happy to see a check under $150 for 2 dinners 3 drinks and a dessert. We were seated upstairs which appears to be the loudest of the areas."

It seems we can sometimes sneak in when our other favorites are booked up for last minute reservations. We had the steak and lamb and a couple of terrific cocktails to get things rolling. Staff are attentive and we've yet to have anything other than a good experience."

  • "It was a perfect evening. I took the chance of bringing friends to your restaurant for a special occasion. I had never been before so it was a bit of a gamble. The ease of reserving online and being able to forward the time and address was a good start. The greeting at the door was warm, friendly and professional. I was given two choices of areas to sit in. Thank for you that. Our waiter was warm, professional and knowledgeable. The food was exceptional, and presentation was perfect. It was such a flawless evening ! The food was top notch with exceptional flavours and plating (especially the steak and steal head potato salad). The service was incredible! Everyone was very knowledgable, friendly and knew exactly what type of recommendations to make. I would give the restaurant a 10 out of 10, which is very difficult to achieve!"

  • "This was our first visit, as were were in for a vacation in Vancouver. We had a nice set of cocktails to start, with two small plates and a shared main course to follow, plus dessert. We chose some great French red wine to go with it. The wait staff was attentive and engaged and the food was great -- nice taste, good temperature, good presentation. Be aware that it can get a bit noisy and the tables are closely spaced. That was not a problem for us, but it might be if you are looking for intimate dining in a quiet space. Otherwise, this is a super restaurant and we'd highly recommend it!"

  • "Atmosphere was relaxed and casual, exactly the way dining in Vancouver should be. Servers were friendly and knowledgeable. I love restaurants with a limited menu; 5 or 6 mains that they do extremely well. This is the case at l'Abattoir. Attention to detail was obvious with all items from of the kitchen and the wine list featured a great selection of wines by the glass in addition to full bottles, something I appreciate as the person who is generally the designated driver. We don't get out to 'grown-up' restaurants as much anymore since we moved on to the parenthood stage of life, but l'Abattoir quickly made it as one of our 'go-to' spots after our first visit."

  • "We have dined here several times. this time was a big disappointment! I asked for a certain table when I made the reservation. When I arrived, that was not acknowledged and the greeter indicated that someone else had reserved the table when I asked. It was loud, hot and the food was not of the usual caliber. The cold appetizer, barbecued octopus, was dry and the squid ink and chili didn't feel integrated into the dish. I ordered the suckling pig, and again the plate just felt like ingredients-pig was also dry. My husband had the duck-it was very well prepared and sauced. We did not stay for dessert due to the above."

  • "Went for dinner. First time there. 2 people. Chose to share 6 appetizers and no main dish. Wanted to try as much flavors as possible. A exquisite and ultrafresh menu with creative cooking (without the excess of trendiness). Presentation and service impeccable. Somelier suggested a different wine than my first choice and was spot on. One of the best meals I had in Vancouver in the last 5 years. Good to see a real pool of new talents that are not obsessed to pretend to be Barcelona or New York. Will return very soon, a few more dishes to try :)"

  • "We came here for dine out Vancouver in 2012. The food was amazing then. We comes yesterday for my husband's birthday and still had high hopes due to lots of postive reviews on urbanspoon. However, the the food was only average. My albacore tuna tasted kinda fishy. My husband's steak Diane did not have enough grill taste to it; resulting in a flat tasting tenderloin. Sigh....we won't be visiting any time soon. The service was excellent though! "

The food is first rate and the Spanish wine I had was perfect with the Steak Jullien. Had both a hot and cold salad which we split among three guests. Plastic kitchen chairs were surprisingly comfy. Overall -- a winning experience. We'll be back! "
