La VoileSpecial mother-daughters lunchI wanted to treat my daughters to a special day and chose La Voile for our luncheon.
The youngest (12) is a very picky eater but was happy with her Croque Monsieur and fries. My oldest (19) is a vegetarian and loved her Spinach Salad with beets and goat cheese. I had a delicious Chicken Panini with salad. Waitress assisted me with a delicious glass of Sauvignon Blanc to pair with my sandwich. Water was refilled regularly. Staff was friendly and helpful. Dessert was stupendous!!! Mousse Au Chocolat and a Molten Chocolate Fondant.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time aroundSecond time around. Still delicious. And what to say about the service provided by the staff. This restaurant is a keeper!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMParis on Newbury St.La Voile is a delightful French bistro including a waitstaff with French accents and an efficient pleasant, but not not overly friendly attitude. The food is delicious and interesting and typical of a Parisian bistro, I enjoyed a duck breast l'orange that was cooked to order and not fatty. My wife had delicious a dish of poached lobster and seared scallops. The wine list was brief but sufficient and they give a good pour.
The restaurant is an excellent choice for either lunch or dinner.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent french restaurantWaiter was terrific, food delicious. Amazing wine menu with many choices at various price points.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful!Came here to celebrate my graduation and had a wonderful dinner. The filet de boeuf en rossini was magnifique! The service was perfect and the wine selection extraordinary.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid French BistroThis is straight-up French Bistro (comfort) food. My husband noticed a few minor issues, so it wasn't perfect. Would come back if planning to be in the area.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother Excellent EveningThis was our fourth visit to La Voile and we enjoyed it every bit as much as the first! The roast chicken for two was delectable, as were our appetizers (smoked salmon salad and mussels mariniere). For dessert, we chose the floating island with creme anglaise--delicious and not too heavy. Jean-Baptiste, our server, was professional and efficient throughout. I'm already looking forward to the next time!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMParfait! We were thrilled with the warm, welcoming atmosphere; attentive staff and amazing food.
To start our evening the chef sent out a delicious amuse bouche which was an olive spread on crostini and slices of fresh saussison. My husband chose the special for his appetizer: a flavorful chicken pate with caramelized onions. I ordered a delicious salad named Les Betteraves. For our meals he chose Le Homard, and I chose L'Entrecote. Both were fantastic.
Desserts were just as outstanding: He chose a trio which included several mini pastries and Creme Brule. I chose La tarte des demoiselles Tatin, glace vanille flambeed with Calvados.
We asked for assistance ordering wine and it was perfectly paired with all our food.
BRAVO LA VOILE!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMVery SpecialFrom the bi-lingual waiters to the sea bass de-boned at the table, this is a very good restaurant in the style of French country dining. Food and service was excellent.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is our favorite spotThis is our favorite spot for true French bistro and brasserie fare. It is managed magnificently and never disappoints. I brought a friend for lunch this day and he is now hooked, having brought his wife for dinner twice since our luncheon. We routinely come from Newton to dine at this spot.....for the past 5 or more years now.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic excellenceMastery of authentic French cuisine with a talent for understatement can be experienced here. Save the air fare to Paris or Montreal. Seldom does the mere application of heat to meat result in the sublime. It is excellence from talent not affectation. The entrees are familiar but the dedication to the genre is certainly uncommon.
If you long for the romance of that which is truely French you will find joy here. Nothing here is "an homage to" , "based- on" or "a twist to" or "an interpretation of " a classic. It is instead the real thing, savor it.
A great wine list as well.
The dining room reminds one of the romantic little jewels of Paris.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brasserieWe picked La Voile from the Trip Advisor reviews and saw how we made a right selection. It is a real French Brasserie on Newbury Street. Everything was perfect and the food was delicious. I ordered L'entrecote as main and it was mouth-watering.
Strongly suggested.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful French ExperienceExtremely authentic French dining experience, with a wonderful menu and excellent staff with high attention to detail. I loved the location too bad it was raining coz there's a nice place outside. Will definitely go back again.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Dover Sole in the CityI always get the dover sole.
Deliciously prepared and deboned at your table.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful french cuisine & ambianceWhile the décor of La Voile is more nautical than French Riviera, the wait staff and menu are clearly French.
Don't worry the menu is not only in French, nor is the dish selection avante garde. In my party we had the Dover sole, flank steak, and roasted chicken entree's and they were all excellent. The portioning, presentation, and seasoning were all top shelf. Our server filleted the sole tableside and did a wonderful job. Our appetizers of pate, salad, and cold tomato soup were equally excellent.
Overall, I found the menu to be a bit on the pricy side, but typical for Newbury Street. The staff, food, and ambiance all kept pace for a fair value for the dollar. I highly recommend that you try La Voile.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spot in summerI recently had a wonderful lunch sitting outside at La Voile. While the prices are generally on the high side for lunch, they have a good 2 or 3 course lunch menu at a reasonable price, and some lunch entrees that are also reasonably priced. The food is excellent, authentic, Provencal cuisine. You feel like you are in France sitting on Newbury Street while eating a Quiche Lorraine.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent wines. Ambiance of restaurant in Paris. All waiters speak French. All this--and it is in the heart of Newbury Street. Friendly, unpretentious service with charm and attention. I appreciate the salads. My husband's lamb chops were the best he has had.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Restaurant WeekExcellent Restaurant Week dinner with nice wine choices. Waiter was professional and efficient.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI came here with my boyfriendI came here with my boyfriend for restaurant week. The staff was very accommodating and had excellent suggestions for dishes and wine. Wine list was extensive and expensive, as expected for Newbury Street. The place was dark, small, and cozy - much more casual than anticipated. The foie gras was delicious, though the toast was slightly burnt. He ordered le canard, delicious sweet tender duck covered in orange cinnamon glaze with potatoes and baby spinach. He quickly switched with my bourgignon, made in a red wine sauce that I thought was a bit too salty and more raw than medium-raw. Dessert was alright, with a berry tart that had a very hard crust and soft cream puffs covered in chocolate sauce.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply one of the best restaurantsSimply one of the best restaurants in Boston. The service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. We originally went for the restaurant week menu, but decided to order off the regular menu instead, and I don't regret it for a second. My only minor complaint, and really it's not even a complaint just an observation, is that with the music it was a little loud.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dined here because of RestaurantWe dined here because of Restaurant Week and will be going back soon.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable RestaurantVery enjoyable Restaurant Week meal, with a relaxed pace and delicious food for a bargain price.
