The vibe at La Voile is extremely authentic. All employees spoke french, which was lovely. Food was delicious and service was attentive. However, beware of having to wait for your table - we had a reservation and had to wait an extra 25 minutes to be seated. Plan accordingly. Overall fantastic little place tucked away on newbury.

The place is a gem as far as how it feels and looks. The food however is not very creative, slightly better than mediocre actually, which for a French restaurant is a bit disappointing. I had the onion soup which was great (you can hardly go wrong) and the mussels in hot spicy broth. The Mussels were a bit under cooked and the broth was good but not really spicy. My friend had the fish of the year--branzino or Mediterranean bass--which seemed to me blend and quite boring (though he liked it). The wine list is good and delivers some good French options for a reasonable price. The over all costs were reasonable all together and I would say that overall I had a great experience.

This was my 3rd time at La Voile and I have to say that it was a disappointment. The wait staff were over eager and one of them made a rude comment to my date because he ordered a soda instead of wine. This commentary about what he was drinking continued throughout the meal and made it uncomfortable for us both. We both are not eating carbs so when we asked for the bread basket to be removed there were more comments made. The food was under seasoned for both our salads and entrees. We will not go back since there seems to be a level of snobbery that is new to the restaurant that is not appreciated for those who have dietary restrictions.

I've been going to LaVoile a few times a year for many years. The food is always exceptional. And, as someone who loves Paris, it gives me pleasure to hear the staff's heavily accented English! The space has a very intimate quality and I always leave feeling full and happy.

The food was fantastic, nicely spiced, not overdone. The wait staff were very attentive, but not intrusive. We were able to have a delicious meal and make a show without feeling rushed. I would recommend the mussels in creamed curry sauce. My husband thought that the red snapper was the best he had ever eaten. Dessert was yummy. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will return.

The wait staff all speak French (as well as English of course). The menu, wine list, and service are all French providing one of the very few places where one can enjoy a completely French experience in Boston. This is rather rare, and hence worth noting. The food is excellent for the price and the wait staff are friendly and helpful. I have eaten here several times and sampled many of their menu items and for the price it is very hard to beat.

It was the type where they try to fit too much into an awkward space complete with awkward DIY writing on the walls. The food was fine but not great. The salad was tiny. The staff wasn't ready to handle a packed night. The people were very nice despite it. But it's hard to feel comfortable when everything around you seems hectic.

This restaurant stands out from a very busy restaurant scene in Boston with it's combination of friendly and efficient service and exceptional food. The portions are sufficient without being overwhelming and the quality is without doubt excellent. Escargot and Terrine de Fois Gras were our hors oeuvres, both met and exceeded expectations especially the peach marmalade that complemented the fois gras perfectly. Roasted duck breast, and a Grilled rib eye (which was voted as one of the best steaks ever eaten). We shared a single dessert "La mousse de chocolat "Valhrona" and two of our group tried a selection of Dessert wines which also delivered satisfaction. A great evening, great food and great service, a pleasure to return

My wife and I had lunch at La Voile on Saturday knowing full well we had made dinner reservations for the following night. We have dined there numerous times going back to when they first opened, and over the years, we've had some of the best times (including New Year's Eve) and met some of the friendliest servers of any restaurant in Boston. The food is always top notch and, at the risk of "going over the top," as good as any we've had in Montreal and Paris. The owner has told me his goal is to maintain the personal standards he has set and as far as we're concerned, he's done just that.

OUTSTANDING! We loved La Voile. If we lived in Boston we would be regulars. Perfectly cooked lamp chops and sole. Potatoes lyonnaise light and airy and practically melt in your mouth. My husband ordered a frisee salad and I did not order anything for that course and the waiter kindly split the salad onto two plates for us to share -- what a nice thing to do. The salad was fresh, lightly dressed, and a perfect poached egg on top. Delicious profiteroles with cream filling for dessert. Be sure to make a reservation, this is a very busy place.

We dined here for the first time on a cool, late summer evening, and were warmly greeted like regulars. We started with soups - an intense fish consommé and a hot vichyssoise, both delicious, as were our entrées, snapper with sautéed artichokes, and lobster and scallops over risotto. The wine list included interesting offerings by the glass, and the baguette was perfectly baked and tasty. Our excellent service was provided by an apparently authentically French and delightful young woman (indeed, we were pleased to note that much of the staff and many of the patrons were Francophone, further bolstering our own impression of La Voile's authenticity). The restaurant was crowded and energetic on this Friday evening, like a bistro in Paris.

Service was very efficient without rushing us and . Wine list was extensive and fairly priced. One of the highlights of our visit. It's hard to find an authentic bistro, but La Voile is the real thing. Good atmosphere, good food, good service, good value. As others have noted, the tables are a little too close together, and it was noisy on Saturday night, but it's a bustling congenial environment, and the servers are great at juggling everything very professionally. Overall, a friendly place which ideally would be found in every neighborhood, rather than a T ride away!

La Voile has become my favorite restaurant in great part because of the attentive, welcoming staff and the this-is-Paris ambience. But this time, while my 3 friends said they enjoyed their dinners, had I not been a guest I would have returned mine. The steak was gristly and saturated with (butter?); the fries were skinny, soggy, broken - tasted as if they had been under someone's wet luncheon salad. I will return and hope to find the steak dinner improved.

We went to this restaurant for restaurant week and enjoyed a three course meal between four. The duck was absolutely divine as well as the steamed mussels. Their wine list was extensive and the bottle of Malbec that we shared was a great pairing to all of the food. However, the only pinot noir wine that was reasonably priced was a bit dull.
