A word from La Villette
Chef "G" Guilherme Barreto will delight you with French classics, taking you on a journey through Provence and reflecting the surrounding coastal Mediterranean flavors, including the chef’s and owner’s family recipes. The atmosphere is 1920s Parisian Brasserie with original décor from the period; designed and built by hand by owner Angelo Peruzzi who grew up in France.

The 74-seat dining room is wrapped by 21 French doors that provide panoramic views of the neighborhood and 59-seat sidewalk café. The bar features one of the largest seamless pewter countertops in the country and warm custom backlighting fabricated by the owners. The triangular shaped room and giant handmade mirror collages provide unique and wide views to every seat in the room while retaining an intimate feel. Guests dine on luxurious red leather banquettes and cushioned chairs while they listen to music programmed on one of the finest restaurant sound systems and room acoustics in the City.

Went there for V-day. Made reservations on opentable. When we got to the restaurant at around 8pm on V-day and the restaurant was closed, all the chairs and furniture were put away. Is this restaurant closed?

Stopped for drinks and dinner prior to a play at Minetta Lane. Service was inept. Food was ok, not great. Disappointing experience although we didn't have soup to nuts, but any customer should be treated as a potential repeat. I'd recommend Northsquare at the Washington Sq Hotel or Cafe Loup which is a bit further north, but both know how to treat patrons as valued.

I had a confirmed reservation for 7pm. When we arrived (a trip made from South Brooklyn), we discovered the restaurant was closed. The coffee shop next door told us La Villette had closed early because business was slow. I certainly don't fault them for closing when they choose, but I had a confirmed reservation, and they did not call or email me to tell me the reservation was being canceled. We were quite confused by the whole experience and annoyed that we had traveled across the city on a chilly, messy night. I called the next day to find out what had gone wrong. The man who answered confirmed they had closed early, but had no explanation for why I wasn't informed. What a weird way to do business.

My husband and I like to go out after work on Friday and try new spots. We especially like Frenchy places and this was one we hadn't heard of. Very cool interior that has a mixture of old-world tiled walls and potted palms that give it a Casablanca feel. Very gracious service, sturdy menu featuring French-inspired cuisine with imaginative twists. My husband LOVED his rabbit, and my steak au poivre was delicieux! We will definitely be back.

ok I admit that i was a bit unsure about this restaurant due to some negative reviews you can see on here, but i always believe the reviews are subjective, they are based on different people's experiences and opinions. First of all, it was Saturday night, but not so many customers, about 10 tables I think. Great vibe, romantic/relaxing decor/music/setting. Food was good, and decent portion. Service was ok, nothing spectacular but not bad either, at least our waiter was friendly and nice. Overall I enjoyed the dinner. I still encourage you should go give it a shot if you feel like to, reviews on internet are just for FYI purpose.

I loved this space from when it was 10 Downing and it's still a great room. Now it's French bistro and the food is pretty standard but also pretty good, Unfortunately, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Granted, we had a French waiter and it was his first day! He did what he could - and was very nice - but why was no one helping him? I don't understand restaurants where the hostess just sits there and doesn't pitch. If there's no one at the bar, why isn't the bartender bussing tables? Shouldn't restaurants be all about making it the best and most seamless experience for their customers? This place doesn't seem to get that but, hopefully, they'll get it together because there is great potential here.

We had a very good meal and an enjoyable time at La Villette. My salmon was just about the best I've ever had. My wife's Cajun chicken breast was excellent. We went early so I can't say how they would handle a large crowd, but to me the food and wine is the main thing. They did very well. I look forward to going there again.

In booking the restaurant it appealed based on the description given. We live in California and were visiting New York. The location was great and when we arrived at noon on sunday there were only a couple of people there. In short, the food was very good, but service was sorely lacking. Definitely training is a must. There were 6 of us for two hours and there were no more than about 3 other tables that entire time.

Over-priced brasserie with great service. The lamb/hamburger was a tower of ingredients, tasty, if you like lamb, but required knife and fork. The mussels with frites were disappointing. Huge shells with tiny mussels, most of which had not opened properly, 6 not at all. The onion-bacon broth was delicious though. The giant pot was very deep, making it awkward to retrieve the mussels. We shared the apple tarte which had excellent flaky crust. Though part of the ceiling had an acoustic looking covering, the din was too much, even though the restaurant was only half filled. But that seems to be the sad state of dining today. Must be why the Open Table noise levels end with Energetic instead of Obnoxious. You should really add that.

The food was excellent and tasty. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, the Omelette Du Sportif, a half a dozen of clams, the Tiger Shrimps appetizer, and the French Fries. I also wanted to order the Escargots & Lobster "Vol au Vent", but it was not on the menu during the time we were there for brunch. The complimentary bread was also delicious. On my previous first visit to your restaurant, I had the Pan-Seared Cajun Chicken Breast. That was really good. Without me asking my wife, she complimented that the food was good.

This is the worst dining experience I've ever had. The waitress was very attentive about taking orders but she couldn't be found otherwise. We had to flag down several people for service - including clearing empty glasses and ordering wine with our dinner. We ordered the whole branzino and told them repeatedly that we wanted to filet it ourselves. This was ignored when the entrees arrived. For a mostly empty space with plenty of staff, service was atrocious. The loud dance music made dinner conversation difficult even early in the evening. There are many other french bistros that will provide a better dining experience at the same price or lower. Finally, they bizarrely cancelled our OT reservation AFTER we had settled our bill.

It was a birthday dinner and the six of us were a bit self-absorbed. The staff could not have been more accommodating or thoughtful. I am sure it was not easy for them! For us, it was great - the food is inventive and interesting even if the menu is limited in true cafe/brasserie style. The wine list was fairly priced and there were several good bottles for reasonable prices. I look forward to returning.

Food was okay but I think it really matters what you order. I had the mussels it was probably the best mussels I have ever eaten but three of my party had the brazino and they a thought it was only okay. The French fries were great and the creme brûlée was delicious. Like others have said they need more menus. We opened two and they were blank.

I had mixed feelings about this place. The brasserie-cafe setting is pleasant. The servers were trying hard to be attentive (at an uncrowded time of day), but my waitress was unable to answer several basic questions about both the food and the wines by the glass. She definitely needed more training. The food was uneven: mediocre oysters, bland baguette, yet absolutely delicious provencal rabbit and good mushrooms. Two wines by the glass were simple but easy to quaff. This place could be significantly better with more attention to the details.

Beef tartar was very good, oysters were excellent, calamari should not be served with shaved shaved cheese (Romano I think?), it was not good and frankly cheese makes seafood smell "bad"....the cajun chicken is excellent, a must order, and the brussell sprouts were also excellent. Thurs they have a DJ but the promoter who built the party is no longer doing it. Used to be a ball, now its a bit quiet, I would bring in another promoter or bring back the last one.

Really liked La Vilette. Felt very bisto-ish with good, solid food. Except for their being WAY TOO MUCH SALT, we enjoyed our food. The menu is tiny bit limiting, but you can always make up for it with the large number of nice "sides". You almost never see carrot salad (carottes rappees) in the US. These were delicious! Nothing particularly special or fancy. Just a nice place to eat good food.

First time for brunch here, had dinner here several times and quite enjoyed it (only problem is limited menu). On a nice fall Sunday it was quite pleasant eating outside and all was fine. But three of us had variants of eggs benedict and all three yolks were hard. It came with a fruit salad that surely looked like it came out of a can. In fairness the two others enjoyed their french toast and scrambled eggs, and the apple tarte was superb. The brunch was on the expensive end of Village brunches (I expected a drink at the menu prices). Maybe it was just bad luck that morning. But I do not believe I will go back for brunch. (With caveats on bad luck, not being consistent with nice dinners, etc.)
