La VilletteAnother great bistroHave been to La Vilette several times and this was my first time for brunch. On a nice day,the outside seating is lovely. Service is good, friendly and food does not disappoint. The baked pastries are okay and the waiter was kind enough to bring us a fourth. Only comment is that I love jam with my croissants and none to be found.Hardly a deal breaker!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Great! We've dined at La Villette 5 or 6 times this year, and every dinner has been very enjoyable: wonderful food, prepared to perfection with fresh ingredients; service that is attentive, yet not overbearing; relaxed atmosphere; and acoustics that make conversations at the table easy on the ears. It's everything a restaurant should be; a true "neighborhood gem" that we travel far from our neighborhood to enjoy. Although I seldom eat dessert, I can't resist La Villette's "tarte aux pommes", it's better than any I had in France!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were outside, so thereWe were outside, so there was a fair amont of traffic noise.
Everyone we met as we arrived was friendly. The food was excellent.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was outstanding. The food was outstanding. I had the Lapin(rabbit)which was a large portion of meat in a delicious and unusual very delicate mustard and olive sauce. My wife had the veal tenderloin which was cooked perfectly medium rare and presented on a bed of interesting vegetables in a delicious sauce. As an appetizer we shared the rillettes of duck and rabbit. In place of desert we had a cheese board which was beautifully presented with three cheeses and sliced pear and other fruit. Our waiter immediately noticed that one of the cheeses was not what we ordered and he swiftly came back with the missing cheese. Overall, our French waiter was very friendly and helpful and his support staff were also very efficient.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSplendid find. I've been thereSplendid find. I've been there several times for lunch and dinner. Comfortable bistro, good service, delicious food. Taste of Paris on the edge of the Village.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find! I will be back.Great find! I will be back. The bartender was fantastic as well!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA real French bistro feel.La Villette had a real French bistro feel--and that was exactly what we were looking for. Food was very good--the main courses we had were filet mignon and salmon, plus we had appetizers/side orders of octopus, mushrooms, grilled peppers, and an excellent creme brulee. My friend and I had met in France and this place made us feel like we were almost in Paris again. (Plus there were a lot of French people there, always a good sign.)4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were delighted with LaWe were delighted with La Villette. It's not Paris, but it's got the Parisian charm and a very good (although not extensive) menu. The leek appetizer was outstanding, as was the lobster and escargot (yes!) vol au vent. The entrecote main course was bigger and better than what you'd normally get in a French bistro, and the accompanying herbed butter and two sauces were overkill. A veal tenderloin steak with mushrooms was also fine. Prices are reasonable, given the quality. The service is exceptionally attentive and warm.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I visited on aMy wife and I visited on a recent "day in the city," and enjoyed our restaurant choice, and having chosen based on previous reviews. It was a popular spot at 7:15 on a Saturday evening, tables mostly filled with a good energy in the room. The wait staff was good, and helped us decide on our order. Overall the food was prepared and presented well, definitely with a French flare for creme sauces, butters, and cheese. We were in the mood to re-experience some fond memories of a trip to France, and felt like for a couple hours, we did.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely place. Authentic French.Lovely place. Authentic French. Delicious and delightful3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA beautiful restaurant thatA beautiful restaurant that has nice space around each table, which is a bit rare in NYC. I was there to catch up with a friend, and the setting was perfect.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLa Villette, tres bien!I am so happy that La Villette opened up in my neighborhood. Finally I have a spot that has GREAT food, GREAT booze and a GREAT ambiance. It's hard to find a place like this that's not $32 for a scoop of raw tuna.
Insider info: their baguette is from a French patisserie. Aka. It's a real baguette.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA French Gem in the VillageLa Villette is a true French bistro, simple and elegant. The menue reflects the taste of the owners, good French home cooking brought to a restaurant level. Musts on the menu is the beef tartare, rabbit and veal to mention a few. Excellent wine list and great bartenders who will whip up one of the signature drinks or your personal favorite.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA new offering in the WestA new offering in the West Village. Well worth the visit when visiting the neighborhood. Would recommend to my friends...3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely new French place in the VillWonderful new French place (replaced 10 Downing) with a lovely menu and delightful owners. The music was almost perfect (covers of standards loud enough to be energetic but quiet enough to converse). The scallop appetizer was wonderful, the chicken was excellent and the rabbit nicely mustardy. A welcome addition downtown.11/24/2012 12:00:00 AM
